Carlo Ancelotti’s team successfully added to their four cups from 2014 to 2018, and their triumph meant European teams have won the past 10 editions of the tournament.

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Lagos, Adediran Olajide aka Jandor, has accused the state government of complicity in the attack on the Labour Party supporters in the state.
Suspected hoodlums had earlier on Saturday attacked the LP supporters with machetes and other weapons as they were trying to make their way to Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos Island, venue of the party’s presidential campaign rally in the state.
He wrote: “The attack on Labour party supporters in Lagos today by suspected APC thugs is unacceptable and goes against the very essence of what a democratic society should stand for.
“We must continue to raise our voices and demand an end to this kind of behaviour. Political ideologies may differ, but violence has no place in our society. We deserve better!
“This type of violence is what we witnessed in most parts of local government areas visited during our ward-to-ward tour and to date, nothing has been done to curtail it or bring perpetrators to book.
“This shows that the present government is an accomplice to this behaviour because it favours their agenda to spread fear in the hearts of the people.

“It was our expectation that the outgoing Chief Security Officer of the state would publicly condemn this attack and investigate these acts of violence, rather he chose to express his lack of capacity by alluding to security issues as excuse to avoiding public debate.
“Even more troubling were the attempts to intimidate residents of the LGAs we were visiting. Residents were instructed not to receive our campaign team and threatened with further violence if they disobeyed.
“They can deny all they want that they do not feel threatened by the awakening of people who demand a better life but the facts are clear, this is the end of their dynasty of hardship and terror. We will break Lagos free this year 2023.”
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has once again, insisted that it will never extend the deadline for candidates seeking to write the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry examinations into Nigerian universities.
This was disclosed on Saturday by JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, during a tour of some computer-based test centres in Abuja designated to conduct the forthcoming examinations.
“Registration is going on well except for some of these schools. The deadline for the UTME will not be extended,” he said.
The JAMB boss reminded parents and admission seekers that the sale of 2023 UTME commenced on 14th January, 2023, and will close on Tuesday, 14th February, 2023, and they should take advantage of the remaining window to purchase the forms.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has debunked armories making the rounds that his government was organising a Valentine’s Day celebration for the state’s workers.
Adeleke’s denial of the story was contained in a statement on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Olawale Rasheed, who said there was no truth whatsoever in the rumour.
The statement said instead of embarking on such a venture, the State Civil Service Union, in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service, would rather host an annual Valentine’s Day event that has been on for the past four years which was started by the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
A circular earlier on Saturday which was signed by K. Akintola, on behalf of the State Head of Service, had stated that the celebration would hold at the Bola Ige White House, in the Osun Governor’s Office, on Tuesday.

The circular noted that Adeleke, would be the special guest at the occasion, while the Head of Service would be the father of the day.
But while clarifying the position of the government on the purported party, Rasheed said the programme was not a Valentine’s Day celebration as being speculated.
“The event was regularly held under the previous administration, and as such, the Civil Service Union is only continuing a tradition that predates the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke,” he said
The Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has told the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that it has no moral justification to describe a slip of tongue by its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu during a rally in Kano where he was quoted as saying “PDP has brought us shame. We won’t retain them in power.”
The gaffe by Ayu was feasted upon by the APC campaign team through a statement by its spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who claimed that the PDP chairman was stating the obvious.
“In our view, Iyorchia Ayu did not suffer from slip of the tongue. He was only reflecting an inner guilt about the grave damage his party inflicted on our country for 16 years,” Onanuga said.
But while reacting to the APC statement on Saturday, the PDP was quick to remind the ruling party how President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy was stoned by angry mob in the same Kano during a campaign rally few weeks ago.
In the PDP statement issued by one of its spokespersons, Dino Melaye, the main opposition party called on the ruling party to first deal with its internal wrangling before looking outside to find fault lines in other parties or cast aspersions on Ayu.
“Unsettled by the peaceful, stone-free and resounding rally of the People’s Democratic Party in Kano on Thursday, the fractured, factionalised and fading All Progressives Congress, APC, had no other reaction after the impressive outing than to make a song and dance of what was by its own admission, a slip of tongue of the urbane and intellectually savvy Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,” the statement reads.
“To demonstrate the extent that incoherence and political erosion has so much disoriented the beleaguered APC, its spinners attempted to cover the flame of its failure with a bare hand in an attempt to veil the rejection and shame that beguiled the party when its leaders were stoned in that same Kano City just a few days before.
“The balablue of the APC is a shock therapy for the massive reception that the PDP received in Kano.
“It is repulsive and revulsive that a party that has ruined the economy and made it so prostrate that citizens are now buying their own currency will be talking about shame.
“How can a party talk of shame where in the place of hope for a better academic system in the university, its presidential candidate is assuring that instead of 4 years, students will spend 8 years? What a renewal of misery and hopelessness?

“How can a party talk about shame when its own presidential candidate is accusing the President of Nigeria and leader of his party of sabotage and an unpardonable economic mismanagement that has taken the naira from exchanging at 200 naira to a dollar to 800 naira to a dollar within 7 years?
“How can a party talk of shame when in a nation of over 200 million people, the APC is parading a man who most times doesn’t know where he is and utters unintelligible bulaba and balabu all over the place?
“How can a party talk of shame where trillions of naira has been spent on fuel subsidy and Nigerians in the pauperised villages are buying a litre of petrol at 400 naira while those who ferry public money around in bullion vans pay 180 naira per litre?”
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) to “promptly seek authorisation from the ICC Chamber to commence an investigation into the situation in Nigeria in relation to the growing cases of pre-election violence, which if not addressed may escalate and lead to post-election violence in the country.”
This petition was signed by the SERAP Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, following reports of election-related violence in several states including Lagos, Rivers, and Kaduna states.
The petition dated 11 February, 2023 was sent to Mr Karim Khan, QC, Prosecutor, ICC.
Over 4,000 cases of violent attacks and 11,000 fatalities were reported across the country between 1 January 2022 and 3 February 2023 alone.
The petition, read in part: “SERAP urges you to seek authorisation from the ICC Chamber to commence an investigation into the situation in Nigeria in relation to election-related violence that may be committed during and after the elections scheduled for February and March 2023.
“SERAP also urges you to identify the suspected perpetrators of election-related violence and those individuals who bear the greatest responsibility for encouraging or facilitating these crimes, and to ensure their effective prosecution by the ICC.”
“These are not isolated acts, but part of growing cases of election violence, thus constituting crimes against humanity.”
“Seeking authorisation from the ICC Chamber to commence an investigation in relation to election-related violence that may be committed after the general elections is consistent with Article 53(1)(a) of the Rome Statute which allows investigation into ‘a crime which has been or is being committed.’
“SERAP notes that the Prosecutor has consistently relied on the provisions of Article 15 of the Rome Statute and Regulation 49 of the ICC to investigate cases of election-related violence in other countries, including Cote d’Ivoire and Kenya.
“The requested investigation is neither frivolous nor politically motivated. Cases of election-related violence are rarely investigated by the Nigerian authorities. Nigerian authorities are unwilling or unable genuinely to carry out the investigation or prosecution.

“As a result, suspected perpetrators and those who encourage or facilitate their crimes continue to enjoy impunity. Victims continue to be denied access to justice and effective remedies.
“The escalating cases of election-related violence in Nigeria meet the requirements of the Rome Statute and provide reasonable basis for you to promptly commence an investigation, particularly given the gravity of these cases and the interests of victims.
“It is necessary to ensure that any request for authorisation covers investigation into ongoing and continuing election-related crimes during and after the elections, especially given the volatile political environment in the country and the entrenched impunity for these crimes.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria had debunked media reports that the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company lacks the capacity to print new naira notes.
The bank in a statement signed on Saturday, February 11, 2023 by its Director of Communications, Osita Nwanisiobi stated that the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele was misquoted in the said reports.
The bank also denied reports that it wants to close some deposit money banks in Nigeria over their inability to dispense new naira notes amid a cash crunch in the country.
The statement said: “The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been drawn to a misleading report misquoting the Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, as attributing the current challenge in the distribution of the newly redesigned naira banknotes to a shortage of printing materials at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Plc.
“We wish to state categorically that at no time did the CBN Governor disclose this during his presentation to the National Council of State at its meeting on Friday, February 10, 2023.
“For the records, what Mr. Emefiele told the meeting was that the NSPMC was working on printing all denominations of the Naira to meet the transaction needs of Nigerians.

A new Commissioner of Police has taken over in Adamawa State.
The spokesman for the state police command, Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday in Yola, said the new CP, Afolabi Adeniyi, assumed duty on Friday.
Adeniyi had previously served as Commissioner of Police in charge of Anti Human Trafficking, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The statement read: “The new CP holds Bsc. Mass Communications from the University of Lagos and Masters Degree (MPA) in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.
“He was appointed into the Nigeria Police as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) sometime in 1990.
“He is a passionate, versatile, and experienced police officer who served in multiple units of operations, investigation, and administrative departments in this nation.”
“He had also served as Aid-De-Camp (ADC) to the former governor of Ondo, Late Olusegun Agagu.
“The Commander of Nigeria Contingent to Kosovo, Bosnia, and Darfur.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmoud Yakubu, has revealed that ad-hoc staff recruited for the conduct of the 2023 general elections will have to swear an oath of neutrality before they will partake in the job.
Yakubu, who made this known on Saturday while inspecting ongoing training for Supervisory Presiding Officers in Abuja, said the Commission’s focus on conducting one of the best elections in Nigerian history, is desirous of ensuring the integrity of polling officers which will have a significant impact on election outcomes, whether positive or negative.
He insisted that to achieve the aims set out by President Muhammadu Buhari in the upcoming elections, INEC must ensure that its ad-hoc staff owe no allegiance to any political party or candidate, but rather to the citizens, and must thus remain neutral.
“You are going to supervise the Presiding Officers who are actually going to conduct the elections in all the polling units for Nigeria,” he said, while addressing the trainees.
“It is important to bear in mind your commitment to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and what counts most is your integrity as Presiding Supervisory Officers.
“You have been carefully selected by the commission to perform a very important responsibility for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“You are doing this for Nigeria and you are going to swear to an oath of neutrality. Your loyalty is to Nigeria, your allegiance is to the people of Nigeria and not anybody,” he added
The Police Command in Lagos has communicated its intention to question a traditional ruler over a viral audio threatening and intimidating prospective voters resident in a community in Eti-Osa area of the state.
The Command spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to newsmen on Saturday.
Hundeyin said: “The traditional ruler, a Baale, is to be invited for questioning. Intimidating voters will not be allowed.
“Everyone should feel free to vote the candidate of his or her choice,” Hundeyin said.
A recorded audio of a meeting allegedly held on Monday at the instance of the traditional ruler had gone viral.
In the 11 minutes and 34 seconds listened to by Ripples Nigeria, the Speakers, alleged to be the traditional ruler and one other person requested the residents and those doing business in the area to vote for APC in the forthcoming elections.
The alleged traditional ruler, wanted to know how many persons at the meeting had their PVCs and only about 20 answered in the affirmative, out of about 60 persons said to be in attendance.
“If we take the number of people here, we will not be less than 60, but only 20 have PVCs; what is happening to the rest?
“We are ready to fight; yes, I am not hiding it; I have narrated everything to you. In Nigeria, there is Lagos; in Lagos, there is Eti-Osa; within Eti-Osa, we have Igbara community and by the grace of God in Igbara today, we can take our decision.

Wike accuses Atiku supporters in Rivers of spreading propaganda after failing to deliver for ex-VP
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused supporters of PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar of spreading propaganda after failing to deliver for the former Vice President in the state.
He also denied sending hired killers to the Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council in the state, Dr Abiye Sekibo.
Sekibo had on Friday attributed an assassination attempt on him to Wike’s machinations, saying gunmen dressed in police uniform had opened fire on his vehicle in Port Harcourt.
Wike, who reacted to the development at the Rivers East Senatorial District rally of the PDP on Saturday, dismissed the allegation as untrue.
The governor also denied the allegation of burning the venue approved by his administration for the PDP Presidential Campaign Council to hold its Presidential Campaign rally.
He accused Atiku Abubakar’s supporters in the state of inability to mobilize support for their principal.
“Let me use the opportunity to debunk an allegation that some persons may have made that one Abiye Sekibo said that I sponsored assassination; attempted assassination on his life”, Wike said.
“I want to state categorically clear, all of us from Rivers State know who is who. We know who has killed so many people in this state.
“So, we granted approval for the presidential candidate of the party to hold their rally at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. I do know that if you go there today, no stadium has been burnt.

An old World War II bomb “unexpectedly” exploded on Friday in the seaside town of Great Yarmouth in the United Kingdom, the Norfolk Police revealed in a statement.
The police said the 250kg bomb was discovered on Tuesday by a contractor working on the third crossing over the River Yare and exploded as workers attempted to diffuse it, though no one was hurt in the incident, which pre-empted an army disposal team’s plans for a controlled explosion.
The statement added that army specialists had been cutting the bomb using a technique that creates a slow burn of the explosives.
After the explosion, the Norfolk Police wrote on its Twitter page:

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Monday unveil new equipment acquired by the Federal Government to improve the capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force on crowd control and other operations ahead of the general elections.
Buhari, according to a statement issued on Saturday night by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, will unveil the equipment at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
He said the equipment includes a total of 127 operational vehicles such as Toyota Hilux Pick Up vans, Zahab Classic Pick Up vans, Mikano Rich-6 Pick Up vans, anti-riot water cannons, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeeps, Toyota Coaster buses, Toyota Hiace Ambulances, Mikano Trucks, and Crowd Control Barriers Vehicles.
The statement read: “Similarly, a large catchment of arms, ammunition, riot control agents such as tear gas, tasers, stun guns, pepper sprays, bulletproof vests, helmets, and other personal protective equipment procured by the police will also be unveiled by the president.
“The IGP has expressed the eagerness of the NPF to ensure a safe and secure environment for law-abiding citizens to express their franchise at the 2023 general elections.
“He also warns all intending troubleshooters to be wary as the police have been adequately trained and equipped for strategic deployment before, during, and after the elections for the enforcement of extant laws regulating the conduct of elections in Nigeria; and strengthening the general security and public safety across the length and breadth of Nigeria.”
The leader of the pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, on Saturday, alleged that the popular “Emi Lokan” chant by the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was the outcome of his succession agreement with President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former Lagos State governor came up with the term which means “it’s my turn” at a meeting he held with APC supporters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, before the party’s presidential primary in June last year.
At the event, Tinubu stunned Nigerians by declaring that Buhari would not have won the 2015 presidential election without his support.
However, Adebanjo, who addressed the Labour Party supporters at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, the venue of the party’s final presidential campaign rally, stressed that the term did not represent the interest of the Yoruba people.
The elder statesman is a major supporter of LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
He declared his support for the former Anambra State governor last year and stressed the need for the South-East to produce the country’s next president later this month.

Adebanjo said: “The one who said ‘it is my turn’ is his agreement with Buhari.
“Emilokan didn’t say it is the turn of the Yoruba. Emilokan’s agreement with Buhari was that when Buhari leaves office, he will take over. (But) were you there when he said that?
“I said before that if Obi does not come in as the president, forget Nigeria. The northern elders now say I want to impose Obi on them. No! They want to impose a northerner on us, and we said no.”
Chrisland International High School, Opebi Branch, Lagos, has been dragged into public view again following the reported demise of a 12-year-old student, Whitney Adeniran, during inter-house sports activities.
Michael Adeniran, the father of the deceased, in posts making the rounds on social media platforms on Saturday night, noted that his daughter died on Thursday at the Agege Stadium, which the school used for its sporting activities.
Adeniran claimed his daughter was hale and hearty when the school picked her up for the activities, saying the school had not said anything regarding the incident.
He therefore sought the intervention of the Lagos State Government as well as security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure justice is served.
“To the biggest shock of my life by 1 pm in the afternoon, I got a call from my wife that she was informed that our daughter slumped at the inter-house sport and she was rushed to the clinic”, he said.

“I gave Chrisland school a healthy vibrant young girl what Chrisland returned to me is a dead child. My entire family is in deep sorrow but the school Authority claimed they know nothing about my daughter’s death and all they know is that my daughter slumped and died.
“My question is what happened to my daughter at Agege stadium? As a father, I demand answers from Chrisland International High School. I am in deep pain and sorrow right now. If you are a father you will understand my pain. My daughter is highly loved by us. We cherished her existence and we can never allow an institution to gloss over the death of our daughter.
“Since we started asking this question. The school has been asking us to back down from the autopsy and I know they know their way into the system. I am calling on the pathology department of @lasuth to please be honest with their result. Lagos State government, Nigerian Government, please intervene”, Adeniran concluded.

Chrisland International High School first came into public limelight following an alleged rape of one of its female pupils during a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year.
Videos later emerged in social media of the students engaging in s3xual activities at their hotel in Dubai, where the school had taken them on a trip.
Outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has once again, warned the Nigerian government over the health condition of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu who is being detained in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS).
The group was reacting to a statement credited to the DSS last week that the service was taking very good care of Kanu.
A statement made available to Ripples Nigeria on Sunday by IPOB‘s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said its leader was seriously ill and needed urgent medical attention outside the country as his medical needs can’t be met in the DSS custody.
The Biafra agitators also vowed that if anything happens to Kanu, there would be a “tit for tat towards anybody behind the kidnap and extraordinary rendition of its leader from Kenya to Nigeria.”
“The attention of the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, under the able leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the insulting and provoking statement credited to the infamous DSS agents that Kanu is being properly taken care of inside their dungeon by the lawless DSS criminal agency,” IPOB said.
“Again, we want Biafrans, Nigerians, and the International Community to know that the Nigerian Department of State Services (DSS) has continued to deny Kanu access to his doctor as ordered by the court, and has not provided him with his medical records either.
“He is not being provided with his prescription medication regularly. Kanu is still being starved because his feeding has also not improved.
“Our leader’s health is deteriorating daily inside DSS solitary confinement, while DSS continues to defy the judgment and legitimate orders of courts of competent jurisdiction.

“The spurious claim therefore by the lawless DSS that Mazi Nnamdi KANU is properly being taken care of medically is not just an insult to the sensibilities of Biafrans, but very provocative as well.
“IPOB has maintained a peaceful and nonviolent stance in our movement and struggles to restore Biafra, and we intend to continue the peaceful agitation for a Biafra Independence referendum.
“But this peaceful struggle will not be guaranteed if anything happens to Kanu in the DSS dungeon. If anything untoward happens to our leader in the hands of the Nigeria government and DSS, it will be a tit-for-tat towards any individual, group, and institution that is involved in the kidnap and extraordinary rendition of our leader from Kenya to Nigeria and much more,” the group said.
The Nigerian armed forces on Saturday dismissed claims that some of its officers met with one of the presidential candidates in this month’s election with a view to disrupting the poll and causing havoc in different parts of the country.
The presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on February 25, while the governorship and State House of Assembly polls will take place on March 11.
There are fears of unrest in many parts of the country over fuel and naira scarcity.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General, Tukur Gusau, the military described as unfounded the rumours that plans on how to oust the present civilian government and throw the country into a constitutional crisis were perfected at the said meeting.
The statement read: “The Armed Forces of Nigeria notes with dismay the story being peddled around by some unscrupulous elements alleging that some military officers met with a presidential candidate with the aim of disrupting the general elections and setting the country on fire.
“The wicked and very malicious propaganda indicated that a so-called Thursday meeting is plotting a coup d’etat to establish unconstitutional order.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria is disheartened that even politically exposed persons can denigrate themselves into joining agents of destabilisation and violence in making false claims just to heighten tension in the polity.

“It needs to be stated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria is a professional military that is loyal to the constitution of the Federal Republic and will never be part of any evil plot against our democracy.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said on Saturday the redesign of the naira notes was initiated to make Nigeria’s monetary policy decisions more effective, and promote financial inclusion.
The CBN’s Director of Communication, Osita Nwasinobi, who disclosed this at the 44th Kaduna international trade fair in Kaduna, said the policy would complement the efforts of security agents in their fights against bandits and other criminal elements in the northern part of the country.
Nwasinobi, who was represented at the fair by CBN’s Director of Capacity Development, Mohammed Abbah, advised Nigerians to make use of alternative payment channels such as eNaira and internet banking for their daily transactions.
He stressed that the policy was never intended to plunge Nigerians into hardship or targeted anyone.
The scarcity of the redesigned Naira notes had crippled activities in the country with Nigerians daily keeping vigil at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) posts to cash money for their daily usage.
Abbah said: “The principal aim of the bank, with the currency redesign initiative, is to make our monetary policy decisions more efficacious.
“Thirdly, our aim is to support the efforts of our security agencies in combating banditry and ransom-taking in Nigeria through this programme.
“The CBN is not unmindful of the challenges some citizens have had to face in the past few weeks in efforts to get money from their banks or other alternative channels.
“Indeed, there have been reports of occasional transaction failures. However, we wish to assure you that the Nigerian payment system infrastructure is robust enough to handle the surging transaction volumes across all channels.”

Former Abia Senator, Adolphus Wabara has revealed that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has vowed to release Nnamdi Kanu if he assumes office as the next President.
Nnamdi Kanu was captured in Kenya, east Africa and bundled into Nigeria over a year ago and the leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has been in detention since then.
Wabara, who is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, at the party’s presidential campaign rally in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State on Saturday said Atiku promised to release the IPOB leader.
He said that Kanu would be released within the first one hundred days of Atiku’s administration.
“Atiku has promised to release our son from prison in one hundred days of his administration. He is not afraid of anybody. He will do what he has promised,” Wabara stated.
Wabara, a former senate president from Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, urged the electorate in Abia State to vote for the PDP presidential candidate on February 25.
Niger State government has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Government of Nigeria over the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at the Supreme Court.
A statement by Justice Nasara Danmallam, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, in Minna on Saturday, said the case was filed with suit number SC/CV/210/2023.
This development joined the series of suits filed by five other state governments— Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara, Ondo, Kano, controlled by the All Progressives Congress (APC), against the Nigerian government following the announcement of the naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Danmallam in the statement said the Niger State government was seeking for an extension of the timeframe given by the CBN for the currency swap and withdrawal from circulation of old N200, N500 and N1,000 amongst other reliefs.

The statement branded the timeframe as unreasonable and argued it was in violation of section 13, 14 (2) (b), 17 (1) (c) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
In the affidavit in support of the originating summons filed at the Supreme Court, the Niger government maintained that the unavailability of the new redesigned notes had caused untold hardships and sufferings on the inhabitants of the state, especially those living in rural areas across the state.

The Supreme Court on Saturday slammed Nigerians venting venomous comments on the judiciary following its recent judgements which affirmed former Governor of the Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, and Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as APC senatorial candidates in February 25 elections.
The recent affirmation of Akpabio and Lawan by the apex court had generated varied concerns from Nigerians, with some branding the judiciary as irresponsible and corrupt.
A Nigeria-born Professor based in America, Farooq Kperogi, had particularly written a combative article to condemn the judiciary over the pronouncements.
However, in a statement titled “Be mindful of unwarranted attacks on judicial officers” and issued by the Director of Press And Information in Supreme Court, Festus Akande, the Apex Court warned Nigerians against attacks on the judiciary especially the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Akande noted that over 600 cases had so far gone to court from just party primaries which were conducted by political parties without any interference from any external bodies.
He said the indecently unhealthy conduct of the political parties in the country resulted in the judiciary having to deal with more cases than necessary.
The statement read: “We have watched with utter dismay some unfortunate events that have been unfolding in the country, particularly within the political landscape, for some days now.
“It is so disheartening to learn that some individuals and groups of persons who ought to know better and even assume the revered positions of role models to a larger proportion of the citizens are now sadly, the very ones flagrantly displaying ignorance and infantilism in the course of defending the indefensible.
“In an ineptly scripted toxic article, one Farooq Adamu Kperogi, who described himself as a Nigerian-American Professor, decided to plunge into an abysmal pit of irredeemable ignorance by venting convoluted anger on Supreme Court Justices with a view to pleasing his paymasters.
“We have made it abundantly clear on different occasions that Judicial Officers are neither political office holders nor politicians that should be dressed in such robes. Our silence must not be mistaken for weakness or cowardice.
“Certainly, every Nigerian citizen has an inalienable right to express his or her opinion without any encumbrance; but even in the course of expressing such fundamental right, we should be circumspect enough to observe the caution gate of self-control in order not to infringe on another person’s right.
“Even in a state of emotional disequilibrium, we should be reasonable enough to make a good choice of decent words, as every word employed by the pen-happy Kperogi only succeeded in portraying the kind of vacuum that sign-posts all that he has as academic accomplishment.
“Courts don’t advertise or scout for cases for adjudication; but at the same time, we are duty-bound to adjudicate on all matters that come before us with a view to giving justice to whoever justice is due, irrespective of status. No court in any clime is a Father Christmas; so, no one can get what he or she didn’t ask for.
“Similarly, all matters are thoroughly analysed and considered based on their merits and not the faces that appear in Court or sentiments that attempt to becloud the sense of reasoning. “So, for anyone in his or her right frame of mind to insinuate that the Justices have been bought over by some unknown and unseen persons is, to say the least, a bizarre expression of ignorance, which definitely has no place in law or even in the realm of pedestrian reasoning.
“We are not surprised with the surge of these well-orchestrated verbal assaults on Judicial Officers across the country at this period of elections. It is a thing we are used to and are ever ready to absorb whatever comes our way, but there should be some level of decorum and dignity in what we say and do. Politics should not be played without recourse to good conscience and acceptable moral conduct, as everything is evolving globally.
“Calling on the Chief Justice of Nigeria to resign or attacking Justices that sit on various panels, as exhibited by a faceless group that calls itself ‘Progressive Minds Forum,’ is rather prosaic. If political parties fail to organise themselves well by managing their internal wrangling maturely and now chose to bring themselves to the court, we are duty-bound to adjudicate in accordance with the provisions of the law and not the dictates of any individual or deity, as some people would want us to do.
“If political parties conduct themselves well and orderly too, the courts would definitely handle fewer cases and the political atmosphere will be much healthier than it is currently.
“We shall continuously do our best to discharge our constitutional responsibility to keep the country together and move the nation along the path of peace, progress and development. Attacks by groups, political parties or individuals under any guise will not deter us, rather it will boost our resolve to do more for the country.
“It is not only petty but equally very unreasonable for anyone to hurriedly link CJN Ariwoola to his state of origin and tribe simply because of a particular judgment of the court.
“The major problem of Nigeria has always been the undue emphasis on religion and ethnicity in all our dealings. As long as we continue along that path, progress will remain a mirage. “So, will the political parties, Kperogi or any individual now accuse the court of causing such unpleasant intra-party wrangling that defied all internal conflict resolution mechanisms? Most times, some people try as much as possible to disingenuously stand logic on its head to show their level of unimaginable dexterity.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has described the sufferings occasioned by scarcity of new notes and fuel as a calculated attempt to stop All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, from winning the forthcoming presidential election.
Scarcity of fuel as well as naira crunch has continued to inflict unprecedented hardship on Nigerians since the announcement of the naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This development, according to Fani-Kayode, was masterminded to undermine the chances of the former Lagos State Governor, at the February 25 polls.
The APC chieftain in a series of tweets on Saturday, also slammed CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for allegedly printing only N3 billion naira new notes having mopped up N3 trillion worth of old notes from circulation.
He accused Emefiele of taking the country on the road to destruction, insisting Tinubu will emerge victorious in few days.
Fani-Kayode wrote: “Godwin, you were sent by satan to torment Nigeria. You are an inglorious bastard & a beast. The satan that is using you will soon abandon you & drop you like used toilet paper. After that the Nigerian people will skin you alive and make you pay for your crimes against humanity.
