PDP’s Jandor, accuses Lagos gov’t of complicity in attack on LP supporters.

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Lagos, Adediran Olajide aka Jandor, has accused the state government of complicity in the attack on the Labour Party supporters in the state.

Suspected hoodlums had earlier on Saturday attacked the LP supporters with machetes and other weapons as they were trying to make their way to Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos Island, venue of the party’s presidential campaign rally in the state.

“This type of violence is what we witnessed in most parts of local government areas visited during our ward-to-ward tour and to date, nothing has been done to curtail it or bring perpetrators to book.

“This shows that the present government is an accomplice to this behaviour because it favours their agenda to spread fear in the hearts of the people.

“It was our expectation that the outgoing Chief Security Officer of the state would publicly condemn this attack and investigate these acts of violence, rather he chose to express his lack of capacity by alluding to security issues as excuse to avoiding public debate.

“Even more troubling were the attempts to intimidate residents of the LGAs we were visiting. Residents were instructed not to receive our campaign team and threatened with further violence if they disobeyed.

“They can deny all they want that they do not feel threatened by the awakening of people who demand a better life but the facts are clear, this is the end of their dynasty of hardship and terror. We will break Lagos free this year 2023.”

Parties tackle each other over Ayu’s ‘PDP has brought us shame’ statement at Kano rally.

The Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has told the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that it has no moral justification to describe a slip of tongue by its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu during a rally in Kano where he was quoted as saying “PDP has brought us shame. We won’t retain them in power.”

The gaffe by Ayu was feasted upon by the APC campaign team through a statement by its spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who claimed that the PDP chairman was stating the obvious.

“In our view, Iyorchia Ayu did not suffer from slip of the tongue. He was only reflecting an inner guilt about the grave damage his party inflicted on our country for 16 years,” Onanuga said.

But while reacting to the APC statement on Saturday, the PDP was quick to remind the ruling party how President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy was stoned by angry mob in the same Kano during a campaign rally few weeks ago.

In the PDP statement issued by one of its spokespersons, Dino Melaye, the main opposition party called on the ruling party to first deal with its internal wrangling before looking outside to find fault lines in other parties or cast aspersions on Ayu.

“Unsettled by the peaceful, stone-free and resounding rally of the People’s Democratic Party in Kano on Thursday, the fractured, factionalised and fading All Progressives Congress, APC, had no other reaction after the impressive outing than to make a song and dance of what was by its own admission, a slip of tongue of the urbane and intellectually savvy Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,” the statement reads.

“The balablue of the APC is a shock therapy for the massive reception that the PDP received in Kano.

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed an appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seeking to restore the nullification of the participation of Osun State’s former Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, and his Deputy, Benedict Alabi, in the July 16, 2022 governorship election.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had, in a judgment on September 30, 2022, nullified the participation of Oyetola and Alabi in the governorship election on the grounds that their nomination forms were endorsed by an acting Chairman of APC, who was also a serving Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni.

Justice Nwite’s judgment was set aside by the Court of Appeal, Abuja in a judgment in December last year, a decision the PDP appealed to the Supreme Court.

In a judgment on Thursday morning, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Centus Nweze, held that the appeal by the PDP was without merit and directed the lawyer to the PDP, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), to withdraw it.

The court held that the PDP could not, under the law, question the process leading to the emergence of Oyetola and Alabi as candidates of the APC in the election.

One of the leaders of the defectors and former House of Representatives aspirant of the APC, Stephen Adeyeri, who spoke at their reception event held in Isua Akoko, the headquarters of the Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state, said Obi’s impeccable track records coupled with his detailed manifesto containing the solutions to myriads of challenges troubling the nation, spurred him and his supporters to join the Labour Party.

He openly declared his firm support for the presidential candidate, predicting a landslide victory for the former Governor of Anambra State.

According to Adeyeri, Nigerians are fed up with the two major political parties, which, he said, had failed woefully in the administration of the affairs of the nation. He stressed that the only better alternative was the LP.

He said, “Obi is the candidate to beat because he has proven to be competent among other candidates. His records, while he held sway in Anambra, is in the public domain, he didn’t get all of that by subterfuge but by dint of hard work.

“I’m here to sell the candidacy of Obi to my supporters, and I told them the reason why he must be elected, particularly his plans to move the country from consumption to the state of production.”

He stressed that a competent hand is needed to improve the country’s fortunes.

Adeyeri pointed out that the solution to the myriad of challenges ranging from fuel scarcity, dearth of electricity, hunger and a host of others troubling residents would soon be things of the past if Peter Obi is elected as the president of the country.

Adeyeri noted that it would amount to “absurdity if those who weaponised poverty on innocent residents have their ways again”, urging supporters to vote for all the candidates of the party (Labour Party) in the forthcoming general election.

In his remark, while welcoming the defectors, the Labour Party secretary in the state, Agabje Abiodun, advised them to vigorously campaign for the LP in the nooks and crannies of the state.

He stated that the immediate past Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, had creditably performed well when he governed the sunshine state under the platform of the Labour Party from 2009-2014; hence Labour Party must be voted based on antecedents.

He said, “Labour Party is the only fast-growing party in Nigeria; we can see how people are trooping to join the Obi’s movement. When Mimiko was governor, can you compare his performance with that of the present administration, has failed to meet the expectations of the people?

“People are tired of the present situation. Adeyeri has said it all, residents are suffering, no fuel, steep price of food items, among others are bedevilling everybody; even the APC members are lamenting the ostentatious hardship.”

In a statement, Morka accused PDP of setting the most ignominious, debased, and virulent campaign records in the history of the country.

Morka said the “statement issued by PDP on President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent visit to Kano is nothing short of a confessional statement of conspiracy to commit felony. By actively instigating and sponsoring fringe violent anti-social conduct by paid urchins during the presidential engagement in Kano, PDP has crossed the line of fair campaign engagement into grievous criminality.

“This is unacceptable and demands urgent law enforcement investigation and prosecution of all participants in this high crime.”

Atiku expressed his condolences to the people of the state who have been victims of bandit assaults in recent years, which have resulted in hundreds of deaths.

In his words;

“We have been looking forward to come to Zamfara because of what we are reading on social media, now we have seen that it is true. Firstly I want use this opportunity to condole and sympathise with you I know that apart from the people of Borno and Yobe there is state that suffered the loss of people apart from you as a result of banditry, armed bandits among others, we pray that God will bring this to an end, but the end of it all is if God wills it is to vote for PDP, because APC brought this evil in the last seven to eight years of its administration.
They brought insecurity, poverty, and disunity; our youth are not going to school because teachers are not paid in secondary and tertiary institution. With your vote you will expunge them. I promised to restore peace and security in Nigeria I have done it in the past I, so, see no reason why with your support and backing by the grace of God there wont be peace in Nigeria.
Secondly the people of Zamfara are known for trading, farming, rearing today none of these exist, therefore with your support we will restore all businesses, ensure that all our youth are schooling without hitches.”

We will give businessmen capital to open these textiles for job generation. We will open borders because it is not in line with the law. Our borders are closed while others are open.
They brought us abject poverty there is no justice in this. I promised under the Federal Government we will reconstruct Bakalori Dam for those farmers that were prevented from farming. Two governors in the past made a pledge to me to construct airport but failed to do it the Federal Government will assist the state to build the airport in Zamfara.”
