“This type of violence is what we witnessed in most parts of local government areas visited during our ward-to-ward tour and to date, nothing has been done to curtail it or bring perpetrators to book.

“This shows that the present government is an accomplice to this behaviour because it favours their agenda to spread fear in the hearts of the people.

“It was our expectation that the outgoing Chief Security Officer of the state would publicly condemn this attack and investigate these acts of violence, rather he chose to express his lack of capacity by alluding to security issues as excuse to avoiding public debate.

“Even more troubling were the attempts to intimidate residents of the LGAs we were visiting. Residents were instructed not to receive our campaign team and threatened with further violence if they disobeyed.

“They can deny all they want that they do not feel threatened by the awakening of people who demand a better life but the facts are clear, this is the end of their dynasty of hardship and terror. We will break Lagos free this year 2023.”

Winning FCT Not Visa To Emerging President – Femi Falana.

Legal luminary, Femi Falana says a presidential candidate does not need to win the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to be declared winner of the February 25, 2023 poll.

“It is not a requirement that you must win the FCT,” the Senior Advocate of Nigeria said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Tuesday.

“Today, the courts have ruled that pursuant to Section 299 of the constitution, that the FCT should be treated as a state. That is the law.

“You don’t have to win the FCT; if you meet the requirement; that is two-thirds of the majority of states in the country. You don’t have to win the FCT,” the rights activist stressed.

A former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba had last week asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to clarify the commission’s position on Section 134 of the 1999 Constitution which seems ambiguous.

Section 134 of the constitution states that a candidate will be declared winner of a presidential election if he has “(a) he has the majority of votes cast at the election; and (b) he has not less than one-quarter of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds of all the States in the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Agbakoba queried whether the 24 states incorporate the FCT or not but the electoral umpire has not made any comment on the matter.

However, Falana said Section 299 of the Constitution already recognised the FCT as a state and therefore a presidential candidate does not necessarily need to win the seat of Nigeria’s political power to be declared winner of an election.

He stressed that once a candidate gets 25% of votes in 24 states and has a majority of the total votes, he or she should be declared winner by the electoral body.

“The concern that has arisen is that looking at the campaigns going on, people are wondering whether any candidate will win those stringent constitutional requirements: 25% and at least two-third of the state and of course majority of lawful votes all over the country,” Falana said.

Obi: BMO faults Obasanjo’s decision.

The Buhari Media Organisation, BMO, has called on former President Olusegun Obasanjo to keep his political opinions to himself, as they have a history of being “faulty, erroneous and self-serving”.

BMO, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju, and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, stated that Obasanjo had “more often than not provided political directions to the country that suited only his selfish interests and not the interest of the nation.”

According to the group, the former President “is notorious for pursuing self-centred ambition masked as national interest”, adding that it is on record how he had made attempts to push, mainly his ambition through the backdoor.

The group also faulted Obasanjo’s latest endorsement of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, arguing that Obi has no substance or clear vision for the country.

While urging eligible voters to key into the testimonials of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the group said he has a verifiable record and a vision for renewed hope for Nigeria.

Part of the statement read: “The former President, in the pursuit of his selfish ambition, threw caution to the wind and endorsed the man he once swore never to support”

“Former President Obasanjo’s latest endorsement of the overhyped Mr Peter Obi, a candidate with no substance or clear vision for the country, whose track record of failure has left a foul stench still suffocating the people of Anambra, follows the Obasanjo pattern of directing Nigerians to the pit of hell because he does not have the keys to heaven.

2023: Peter Obi make fresh promises aged February 25.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in this year’s elections, Mr Peter Obi, has promised to bring back a new Nigeria where every citizen will be proud to belong.

Speaking in Kaduna on Wednesday while flagging off his presidential campaign in the North, Peter Obi said: “Kaduna was the capital of Northern Nigeria where every Nigerian was proud to belong, hence we started the campaign here in Kaduna. We are about to bring back that Nigeria where everybody was happy to belong. Kaduna State represented productivity in the North. It represented what was good in Nigeria. And that is what we want to bring back. We are tired of hearing stories.”

According to him, Kaduna State hosts the best military formations in the country, it is supposed to be more secure than any part of the country, adding: “But there are so many security challenges in the state. We will secure and unite Nigeria. Security will come back again.”

He noted that insecurity in the country is not because the bandits are more formidable than the government, but because of bad leadership.

“That is why the bandits are everywhere and operating almost freely, killing and causing unimaginable destruction of valuables,” he stated.

Obi assured: “We will restructure the security architecture. Security personnel will be well taken care of. We will ensure their lives are taken care of so that their families are taken care of in the event of death.”

He added: “Datti and I will change this country from consumption to production country because of the high prices of things. All the vast lands in the north will be centres of agriculture. Kaduna State again will become a processing centre. The Bank of Agriculture, (BoA) will finance food production in Nigeria and all the support groups, youth, women and all Nigerians, their labour for the party will not go in vain.”

In the coming elections, he explained that nobody should tell one another about tribe, religion or section, stressing that things are not sold in Nigeria based on religion, tribe or section, but all are suffering from the bad leadership of the country.

Peter Obi replies Saraki’s claim his government will be disastrous without structure.

Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has replied former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who recently claimed that Obi cannot make it if elected as president without having members in the national assembly.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, Saraki expressed the fear that if Obi is elected president in 2023, his administration will be characterized by disaster.

The former lawmaker said the Labour Party has no candidates to fill up the parliamentary seats, which according to him may not go well if the party wins the presidential poll. Watch Video Here

But Okonkwo, appearing on the same platform on Tuesday, said the structures being bragged about by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, are those of criminality, poverty, insecurity, scarcity of fuel and bad leadership.

He said that Obi was coming in to destroy such structures and take the country to a new height of productivity and exportation. Watch Video Here

“The structures that the PDP and APC have are structures of criminality, structure of corruption, structure of fuel scarcity, structure of poverty, structure of insecurity and structure of bad leadership,” he said.

“I can go on and on. So if Obi is part of that structure, you wouldn’t see me being a spokesman to him. And that is why he is coming in to destroy such structures. Obi is a man already yielding to Democratically ingenue change.

“When he was a member of the House of Assembly, had no members of the House of Assembly. None. But he was able to get everything he wanted approved by the House of Assembly. Watch Video Here

“He did not have one member of the House of Assembly when he came in as Governor and this is what Obasanjo would describe as a track record of ability and performance.

“What you need to be in control is not having members in the national assembly as pleasant and as important as it may be. What you need is political will. What you need is strong institutions…Obi is going to provide leadership…

“No national assembly can move against Obi because he has to misconduct himself first. He didn’t misconduct himself in Anambra State for eight years. Not even taking the land that he is entitled to or pension that he is entitled to, how can he misconduct himself when he becomes President?…Obi is coming. He’s going to have members in the national assembly but what we are interested in is a new Nigeria…Saraki has made no point.” Watch Video Here
