Colt Cabana’s AEW return did not go unnoticed by WWE.

Advertisements

Colt Cabana’s return last night on Dynamite went over well with the fans in attendance and those posting on social media and it appears that WWE was paying attention too.

WrestleVotes tweeted today that Cabana’s return did not go unnoticed by people at WWE Headquarters in Stamford, CT. WrestleVotes tweeted, “Colt Cabana showing up on Dynamite last night didn’t go unnoticed in Stamford. That’s all I’ll say on that right now…”

What that means is anyone’s guess but some are already between the lines and speculating that this means that WWE might be interested in bringing Punk back as a way to take a big shot at AEW. Cody Rhodes’ return to WWE was seen as a blow to AEW at the time and getting Punk back, one of the top draws in the company, would be a way to send another message that the war is still on between both companies.

The likelihood of Punk wrestling again for AEW seems unlikely but in WWE, the word is that Triple H’s stance on Punk has changed so never say never on seeing Punk at WrestleMania again.

Tasha Steelz says she wants to have a WrestleMania moment.

Advertisements

Impact Wrestling star Tasha Steelz appeared on the Busted Open Radio show on Sirius XM. Steelz talked about her goals in wrestling:

“I have dreams. I have goals. There’s so many people I would love to get in the ring with, and unfortunately, we don’t have that forbidden door to do that. So if that means I have to go elsewhere to have these dream matches, that’s fine. But I like to always keep my options open because there’s so many great talents out there that I would love to just mix it up with and you know, before I can’t anymore, I need to get that done.”

On where she would like to wrestle:

“I want to main event an Impact pay-per-view. I think I’ve done a couple of their first-evers with, you know, the rest of the knockout and have won. So I’ve done that. I’ve been world champion there, done that. I’ve been a two time Knockouts Tag Team Champion. I’ve done that. Also, I would love for Fire ‘N Flava to have a reunion. So that also runs through my mind. I also want to have, which is what everybody wants to have, is their WrestleMania moment. So it’s just such a mixed emotion of just wanting to combine all three and you can’t. But I’m just keeping an open mind. Wherever I am, and me being currently in Impact right now, wherever I go in the future, I know, me being the brightest star in the sky, I’m gonna shine regardless.”

Damian Priest has his hair cut.

The newest member of The Judgment Day stable was officially introduced tonight on WWE Monday Night Raw.

Ripley said it was the easiest decision of her life to join the group and she is done signing autographs at the airport because she sees them being sold on E-Bay. She also said that she is done being used and that is why she joined The Judgment Day.

Edge said Ripley and Damian Priest had no direction but they have now taken their careers into their own hands. Edge teased that they are “looking for more,” as in more members to join the group. For what it’s worth, a former WWE NXT star has been rumored to be joining the group soon. Click here for that potential spoiler.

Also during this segment, Edge revealed that he has cut his hair, a look that he hasn’t sported in a few years during his retirement.

Roman Reigns signed new WWE contract with light schedule.

Advertisements

There was a lot of speculation on Sunday after Roman Reigns’ comments at the live event in Trenton about the new phase of his life.

Reigns has talked about wanting to make the transition to Hollywood and Nick Khan has stated that WWE would be helping with the process. The comments made by Reigns on Saturday night led some to speculate that he would be leaving the company soon.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Reigns is not leaving WWE but he has signed a new deal that essentially gives him a schedule similar to Brock Lesnar, where he only wrestles on a few shows per year.

“This is not it for him but the situation is that he got a new deal and the new deal is for far less dates,” Meltzer said. “I don’t know how many house shows he’s gonna be doing but it will be much less than the number that he’s doing now. It’s one of the perks of being there for a while and being valuable there is you can kind of call certain shots and he’s got the power to maintain the championship and work fewer dates [like] Brock Lesnar has and Hulk Hogan used to have. He’s gonna be in a new phase of his life. He’s got young kids and everything like that, in his mid to late 30s. He probably wants to preserve his body a little bit more.”

Meltzer noted that Reigns only worked a couple of shows on the recent UK tour and he didn’t go on the prior tour because he didn’t want to be away from his family. Meltzer added that Reigns will go for a couple of days on an overseas tour but he won’t be away from home for two weeks straight

Drew McIntyre thinks the WWE titles are way to small for the brand.

Advertisements

WWE unified that WWE Title and Universal Title at WrestleMania 38 last month when Roman Reigns beat Brock Lesnar in a winner take all match.

This has left Raw and SmackDown with one champion as Reigns has made appearances on both shows as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. This is the plan going forward although many expect WWE to go back to having two World Champions eventually.

While speaking with WrestleRant, Drew McIntyre stated he prefers there being two World Champions since the rosters are separated.

“I mean just for the roster it’s been separated. I think each show should have its own champion. I know, say like 20 years ago, whatever it was the same champion they traveled to the shows. But it was also the same roster. Right now, it’s because of what happened at WrestleMania I know the bell to Mania was for this gigantic match with Roman vs. Brock. It was two champions facing off with each… the two top champions facing off with each other. Two individuals with such an incredible history really on fire at another level persona-wise with Roman as his Tribal Chief character and cowboy Brock, which we’ve never seen before so it was a huge match, huge implications. This is the fallout from that huge match with both titles and it’s cool right now. It puts him even higher up than he was before if that’s even possible. He’s literally Thanos levels right now. I think it’s about time that somebody at least took one of those titles off of him and I’m looking at Drew McIntyre.”

As previously reported, WWE is saving the big title match between Reigns and McIntyre for one of the upcoming stadium shows.

Funny moment Pat McAfee asked if The Fiend would sit near ringside at Backlash

Advertisements

If you are wondering why Bray Wyatt/The Fiend is trending online, it’s because of something said by Pat McAfee during the WWE WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view.

During the SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey, a young fan could be seen sitting in the front row wearing a Bray Wyatt mask. McAfee noticed and asked if that was The Fiend sitting at ringside. There was no response from Michael Cole.

That reference might not go over well with Vince McMahon since Windham Rotunda is not with the company. The last word on Rotunda is that he is financially set after he was one of the top earners when he was with WWE. Dave Meltzer reported that Rotunda was making somewhere around $4 million per year and he was a top merchandise seller.

McAfee’s comment is going over well with fans on social media and he has gotten a ton of praise for the enthusiasm he brings so hopefully, McMahon lets that Fiend reference slide without any repercussions.

Charlotte Flair is Injured – WWE official, Kayla Braxton.

Advertisements

WWE has announced that Charlotte Flair is injured.

Tonight during the “I Quit” match, Ronda Rousey won the SmackDown Women’s Title by forcing Flair to say “I Quit” after putting her in the armbar submission with an assist from a steel chair. The announcers speculated that her arm might be broken.

Later in the show, Kayla Braxton announced that Flair has suffered a fractured radius. Pat McAfee then said that basically, this means that Flair has a broken arm.

Injury angles like this are usually done when someone is taking time off so this could have been WWE’s way to write Charlotte off TV for a while.

There were no rules in this match which meant that they were able to fight outside of the ring as long as they wanted and they could use weapons.

The match ended with Flair telling Rousey that she had one more chance to quit and she wished her a happy mother’s day. Rousey grabbed Flair’s arm and put it in a chair and “broke” it and forced Flair to quit. Rousey is the new champion

Bobby Lashley’s 7-month streak ended with Omos at WrestleMania Backlash.

Advertisements

Bobby Lashley’s seven-month streak came to an end on Sunday night at WWE WrestleMania Backlash when he lost to Omos in a singles match. The finish saw MVP hit his former client with his cane and Omos connected with his finisher for the win. This feud started when the former WWE Champion returned after a short hiatus at WrestleMania 38 to answer the open challenge issued by Omos. Lashley won their first encounter. It marked Omos’ first televised singles loss in WWE.

MVP took issue with his client making his WrestleMania return by himself and turned on Lashley to join forces with Omos.

WrestleMania Backlash marked Lashley’s first pinfall loss at a televised event in seven months as his previous pinfall loss came to Goldberg in a No Holds Barred Falls Count Anywhere match when he dropped the WWE Title in October at Crown Jewel.

This notable streak came after the end of Lashley’s first reign as WWE Champion. He lost the WWE Title for a second time in the Elimination Chamber in February but left the match before he could compete due to an injury angle. Brock Lesnar went on to win that match and the WWE Championship and later lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.

The angle was done due to Lashley dealing with a shoulder injury that was believed to keep him out of action for several months, but he healed without getting surgery and he came back quicker than expected.

It should be noted that Lashley has technically lost bouts at televised events since the Goldberg match including Elimination Chamber and at Day 1 in a fatal 5-way bout, but he was never pinned or submitted in those bouts. Excluding those bouts, he holds a 5-1 record while wrestling at televised events in 2022, according to Cagematch

DeMott speaks on cancelled WrestleMania plans for WCW stars.

Advertisements

On this week’s “Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw,” Bill DeMott spoke about plans for WCW wrestlers to debut at WrestleMania 2000 and why they showed them at WrestleMania 2001.

Bill DeMott talking about the nixed plan for the debut of WCW wrestlers at WrestleMania in 2001:

“I have an opportunity to start my WWE career in the ring at WrestleMania 17 next to Shane McMahon. They flew us in secret squirrel at two o’clock in the morning to some rinky dink airport and we stayed at a hotel outside the city limits. We got woken up at six o’clock the morning of Mania, and “You’re fired. Get everybody in a lobby, be there in five minutes.”, and it was Johnny Ace. ‘Get everybody down there. You’re all fired.’ I’m trying to figure out what happened between the time I landed, and then you’re trying to put it together,” DeMott said.

“Like I flew in with these couple guys. Nothing happened. You know, we’re here in the hotel. Lance Storm comes down. Now he’s pissed, which, you know, he’s so even keeled, you don’t know if he’s mad, happy, or breathing half the time, he’s just so straight. Now he’s talking to me, and he’s on fire.”

“Johnny comes down and says that Kevin Dunn called and to send every one of them home, we got no use for them because someone went on the internet the night before and gave up the 10 names that were showing up in the ring. So we went from going to get the red carpet to being picked up on some kind of little short yellow bus.”

On why they showed them at WrestleMania 2001:

“They told us because they flew us in there, they had to show us. I mean, we really got the Bad News Bears treatment. We walked up. They took us to the stairs. No elevators. We had to walk up all those stairs to the skybox,” he said.

“When we got there, they told us you can leave your bags in this bus. So we walked up the stairs. Here come the sky boxes. Not that one. Not that one. It was one in the dark that had some stuff they moved from other rooms. There was a cheese and cracker plate and a couple of bottles of coke. We sat there in the dark, and then Shane came out, introduced his friends, and there’s a silhouette of me, Lance Storm, and I forget who was sitting next to us, just miserable. So that was our WrestleMania moment.”

Roman Reigns to headline WrestleMania Backlash.

Advertisements

WWE has yet to announce an opponent, but Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is set to headline WrestleMania Backlash.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that there’s been speculation online that perhaps Reigns would not be on the show since they have not set up an opponent for him but that is not the case and he will be there.

Meltzer stated, “He is, in fact, in the main event. I presume they’ll shoot the angle on Friday. I don’t know that as a fact, I would presume it. But he is in the main event on the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view.”

Reigns holds the Undisputed and WWE Championship after defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania in Dallas. Days later on SmackDown, Reigns and The Usos attacked Shinsuke Nakamura but there has been no hint as to who he will face at the pay-per-view.

Reigns returned to in-ring action this past week after not appearing on the recent episode of SmackDown.

As of this writing, here are the matches announced so far for WrestleMania Backlash:

WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship – “I Quit” Match
Charlotte Flair (Champion) vs. Ronda Rousey

Cody Rhodes vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins

Producer who quits WWE after WrestleMania working at AEW.

Advertisements

Just a little over a week after quitting WWE after WrestleMania, Pat Buck (real name Pat Buckridge) is now working for AEW.

PWInsider is reporting that Buck started with AEW as a Producer and a source says that he was actually at last week’s Dynamite show as well.

Along with Michael Hayes, Buck helped to produce the WrestleMania main event between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. Buck also produced the SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair.

Buck reportedly cited wanting to have more time for his family as one of the reasons why he left WWE and the schedule would not allow that. Obviously, AEW’s schedule will grant him a lot more time at home with his family. He also stated that he felt like he achieved his goal of producing one of the WrestleMania main events. Buck also did some work in the WWE Talent Relations department and he had been helping to scout potential new signings.

Buck’s jump to AEW is not surprising because he has a lot of friends and former students there. He co-owns the Create-A-Pro Wrestling Academy in Long Island, NY and New Jersey with Brian Myers. Some of the names to come out of that school include HOOK, Kris Statlander, and MJF, among others.

WWE sets new pre-sale ticket registration record for UK stadium event

Advertisements

WWE is off to a strong start for its upcoming UK show on Saturday, September 3 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, which marks the first major PPV event to be held in the United Kingdom since SummerSlam 1992.

The event broke WWE’s record for having more fans registering for pre-sale tickets than any event in history and that includes WrestleMania.

More than 59,000 people pre-registered for tickets in the first 24 hours. It will take place on the same weekend as the AEW All Out show, currently scheduled for Sunday, September 4th.

The name of the event has yet to be revealed and it’s too early for any matches to be confirmed. Drew McIntyre pushed the idea of WWE hosting a stadium show in the United Kingdom for the last few years once he won the WWE Title at WrestleMania 36. WWE discussed McIntyre vs. Tyson Fury for the WWE Title headline UK PPV in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic nixed those plans.

SummerSlam 1992 was held in London inside Wembley Stadium and featured The British Bulldog defeating Bret Hart to become the WWE Champion.

‘Young Rock’ and ‘WWE Evil’ episodes tease Roman Reigns vs. The Rock.

Advertisements

It’s no secret that Roman Reigns and WWE want The Rock back for one more match at next year’s WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles.

Everything depends on The Rock’s schedule and how much he wants to match and if you watched the latest episode of “Young Rock” then you certainly get the impression that The Rock might be interested in the match.

As seen in the clip below, The Rock is surrounded by his family and then a young Joe Anoa’i (Reigns) jumps on Rock’s back. Reigns asked to wrestle his cousin but Rock says the world is not ready and a match that big can only happen at WrestleMania.

In the “WWE Evil” clip, Reigns is described as someone who is destined to be one of the greatest Superstars of all-time. They cut to Peter Rosenberg saying that as far as the greatest Samoan Superstars, no one is bigger than The Rock. They cut to a clip of Reigns on The Tonight Show saying that he would fight The Rock but “I don’t know if he wants it.”

Everything depends on what The Rock wants but there is no doubt that the line said in “Young Rock” would not have been included if Dwayne Johnson didn’t approve of it.

I and Randy Savage jog WrestleMania VIII match for two weeks: Ric Flair.

Advertisements

Ric Flair joined Conrad Thompson this week to do a WrestleMania 8 Watchalong. Flair dropped the WWE Championship to “Macho Man” Randy Savage on that show.

There have been many stories told about how Savage liked to have matches laid out with each spot written down on paper. Flair was asked if his match with Randy Savage at WrestleMania 8 was pre-planned in advance or if they called it in the ring:

“Oh my gosh. We practiced for two weeks,” Flair said. “It’s one of the things that drove me crazy about working with Randy. No disrespect to him, but he’s a guy that liked to put it together piece by piece, and I just had a hard time doing that. It’s just one of those things where you try to make everyone happy. I couldn’t believe it when they told me on my week off when I was in Florida to practice, but I did. It all worked out ok.”

Flair was asked if he had to change anything when he went to WWE in 1991:

“They didn’t ask me to change up much. He (Vince McMahon) just asked me to live a more conservative lifestyle, and he was right. When I was the traveling world champion, life on the road was rough. I was wild and I’m the first to admit it. He asked me to tone it down a little bit and I did. I still had a wonderful time with the wonderful people that were there at that time.”

Backstage news on why Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns match was short.

Advertisements

When Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar in 12 minutes at WrestleMania 38 last weekend, there was talk that perhaps the match ended abruptly because Reigns suffered some sort of injury to his arm or shoulder.

The match length falls in line with many of Lesnar’s matches but given that WWE hyped this one as the Greatest WrestleMania Match of All-Time, it seemed to fall flat for some fans. During his appearance on the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Reigns was not injured and the match played out just as they laid it out.

“That’s not even true,” Meltzer said about rumors that Reigns is injured. “That was the match. That was the match that was laid out.” Meltzer added, “That’s the nature of the way they put Lesnar matches together which is boom boom boom, big move big move…it was not a bad match by any means. It was a Brock Lesnar match, no different from many others.”

The Lesnar vs. Reigns feud has concluded and Reigns will move onto a different opponent. WWE has not said who Reigns will face next at WrestleMania Backlash. At the house shows, Reigns is advertised for matches against Drew McIntyre. There’s no word on what is next for Lesnar or when he will be back on WWE TV.

Hall Of Fame Awards: Here is JTG’s intention on Shad Gaspard honor.

Advertisements

WWE honored former WWE star Shad Gaspard with the Warrior Award at this year’s Hall Of Fame ceremony.

Shad passed away in 2020 after being taken away by a riptide. He insisted the lifeguards take his son first and gave his own life to save his son Shad’s son, Aryeh, wife Siliana and his longtime tag partner JTG were on stage for his honor.

However, JTG wasn’t originally supposed to be on stage for it. The former WWE star talked about this during an interview with The Black Announce Table. He credited John Laurinaitis for making the switch happen.

“That was a great moment that almost never happened [doing the Cryme Tyme handshake with Shad Gaspard’s son]. It was a great moment. Yeah, it was definitely a great moment. I didn’t — I knew it would get a good reaction but I didn’t know it would be that powerful. So I wasn’t planning to do anything. Shoutout to Johnny Ace. You know, I saw him, he was happy to see me and he said, ‘So are you doing anything tonight?’ I was just like, ‘Nah, I’m just on the stage with the talent’ and he was like, ‘Let me go talk. I’ll get right back with you’ and I kind of just left it alone, but then I spoke to Aryeh, that’s Shad’s son. I was like, ‘Look, by any chance we, you know, I have the opportunity to do this, I gotta teach you this.’ We got it down backstage, we were just chilling and then the show started and then I sat — I didn’t hear anything back from anybody, you know? Usually, they like to rehearse stuff, the WWE. They don’t like to do anything [unrehearsed]. It must be rehearsed and we didn’t rehearse it so I’m like, you’re not gonna do it because this is live TV. They don’t want any mistakes or accidents and I understand that. But while we were — right before Shad’s vignette came on, video came on, I got the tap on the shoulder and they gave me the [head nod] and I’m like, ‘All right, we’re gonna do this.’ So it was kind of a last minute decision, it was the right decision and I’m thankful that they had me, gave me the opportunity to do that.”

This year’s Hall Of Fame class was headlined by The Undertaker. It also featured Sharmell, Vader and The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott Steiner).

It’s Official, Charlotte Flair & Ronda Rousey for “I Quit” match at Backlash.

Advertisements

WWE has confirmed that Charlotte Flair will defend the SmackDown Women’s Title against Ronda Rousey in an “I Quit” Match at the WrestleMania Backlash event on May 8th.

This comes after Flair beat Rousey to retain the title at WrestleMania 38 despite Rousey making Flair tap out when she had her in the armbar, but the referee didn’t see it. Once Rousey helped the referee up, Flair connected with a big boot Rousey. WWE reportedly felt Flair had to win the match to continue the feud.

On Friday’s SmackDown, Rousey addressed the loss and challenged her to a rematch at this upcoming event with the stipulation. Flair told her to get to the back of the line.

No other matches have been announced for WrestleMania Backlash as of this writing, but top stars such as Brock Lesnar, Becky Lynch, and Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns are advertised to appear.

WWE did tease a future match between Reigns and Shinsuke Nakamura on SmackDown as Reigns taunted Nakamura over how Rick Boogs suffered an injury at WrestleMania. Reigns hugged him, and said something that couldn’t be heard on the microphone before The Usos laid him out with a double superkick.

Corbin said that he lost the match at WrestleMania because of Moss’ distraction and Moss made things about himself when he won the Andre The Giant Memorial trophy.

At Corbin’s request, Moss told some bad jokes. Corbin didn’t approve and he said that Moss’ recent jokes have been terrible. Moss told a joke that was meant as an insult towards Corbin and that was enough for Corbin to hear.

Corbin attacked Moss and they brawled around the ringside area. The segment ended with Moss knocking Corbin out of the ring before destroying the Happy Talk segment. This was meant to get Moss over as a babyface.

WrestleMania: Backstage news on why Charlotte Flair def. Ronda Rousey.

Advertisements

WWE started the feud between Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in late January once Rousey returned and won the Women’s Royal Rumble match to earn a championship match at WrestleMania. Rousey decided to challenge Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Title.

Rousey was the heavy favorite to win the title at WrestleMania 38 Saturday, but WWE decided to have Flair go over. The match finish saw Rousey tap out Flair with an armbar, but the referee was down. When Rousey got the referee up, Flair connected with a big boot to retain the title. With such a finish, a rematch is expected.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE plans on having Flair and Rousey extend their feud. Meltzer wrote, “the idea is for this to be a long-term program and thus the belief was Flair had to win the first match, even if Flair got the better of Rousey as well in the angles leading up to it.”

Although WWE has yet to announce when the rematch will take place, Rousey is advertised to work WrestleMania Backlash on May 8th.

Stone Cold ignored WWE’s request to not give the middle finger.

Advertisements

When Stone Cold Steve Austin announced at WWE WrestleMania Saturday that he would agree to have an actual match with Kevin Owens, that was a big surprise to many fans and many have speculated that this was always the plan. That’s not actually the case.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Austin and Owens were listed for a match at one point but Austin didn’t want to have a bad match, so the plan was just to do an elongated brawl for several minutes.

However, after intense training, Austin felt comfortable enough to do an actual match. It was previously reported that Austin did a lot of cardio in preparation for the match.

Another interesting note in the Observer is that while Austin was rehearsing, he would stand on the ropes and flip people off. However, WWE producers told him that he can’t do that because the company has changed. Austin did another take and Austin did what he wanted and then was told again not to do it on the live show. On the live show, he did it again.

This story was confirmed earlier this week on The Pat McAfee Show.

Oftentimes, the talent that is not booked for the pay-per-view will be seen making appearances for the company and/or doing autographs. Others are just brought in to attend the WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony and hang out backstage during WrestleMania. Former WWE star Ted DiBiase, for example, was brought in for the Hall Of Fame ceremony.

In January, when WWE began airing vignettes for Bliss, it was believed that she would return to action with a new gimmick and start a feud with someone on the Raw roster.

The vignettes aired for weeks and then they were dropped. She was suddenly booked to wrestle in the Elimination Chamber match in Saudi Arabia. She has not been seen on TV since that show. PWInsider later reported that there were no WrestleMania plans for Bliss.

Bliss tweeted the following on March 1st, “Yeah … I don’t know.” That appeared to be a response to fans asking why she was not booked for Raw after the Chamber show.

At this year’s WrestleMania Axxess, they had an “Alexa’s Playground” set displayed and a cutout of the main roster original Alexa Bliss character
