Igboho’s delayed return linked to 2023 elections.

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, may not return to Nigeria until after the 2023 general elections.

A source in Abuja told Noble Reporters’ known Media Sunday night that both the government and some powerful politicians were working to stall his entry.

Last week, at Bishop Ajayi Crowther’s posthumous birthday celebration in Ibadan, Oyo State, Igboho hinted he would be back shortly.

“I thank you all for your support. By God’s grace, the Fulani’s herdsmen activities against our people will end in our land.

“The Yoruba Nation will soon be achieved and it will be better than all the nations in the world.

“Our agitation is an idea whose time has come. I will come back to Yorubaland soon”, he declared via Zoom.

There is a projection that Igbojo’s return would heat up the polity, particularly in the South-West region.

Igboho caused a stir in January 2021 when he issued a quit notice to Fulanis in Oyo. He accused them of murder and kidnappings.

“He won’t come back now, maybe anytime after the elections have been decided.

“His return would create a charged atmosphere and re-ignite the agitation and protests.

“The government is dealing with a lot already and would not allow this to happen…not with Buhari still in power.

“Apart from that, Igboho’s presence in Nigeria will affect the presidential ambition of who we all know.

“He cannot afford anything that will jeopardize his ambition, or create a clash with the North,” the source said.

In March 2022, the Benin Republic authorities released Igboho from prison to his doctors.

His lawyer, Yomi Alliyu announced a standing pact that he should not leave Cotonou for any reason.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) said Yoruba leaders, Prof. Wole Soyinka and Prof. Banji Akintoye, played a major role in the deal.

Noble Reporters Media gathered that the Nigerian and Beninese governments agreed that the activist’s exit would be jointly authorized.

After his conditional release from prison, Igboho made a revelation at a meeting with members of his legal team.

The agitator told them that Nigeria “used all her power” to try to get its neighbor to hand him over.

“Nigeria requested for me to be handed over to them by the Beninese Government. So, President Talon said he wanted to investigate me.

“He said if it is about politics and human rights, it is against the law for them to hand me over to the Nigerian government,” he said.

Hours after his arrest, DAILY POST reported the Buhari administration’s move to repatriate Igboho to face charges.

Tukur Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff and the country’s ambassador to Benin, reportedly made the request.

Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested on July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport as they headed to Germany.

IPOB: Sunday Igboho warns Buhari against orchestrating another civil war.

Advertisements

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark that millions of Nigerians were killed during the Biafra civil war to ensure the country’s unity.

Igboho warned that such large-scale killing would never be allowed to happen again in Nigeria.

Buhari had urged political leaders to stay focused and uphold the ultimate objective of promoting the interest of the country.

He stressed that the country can’t afford another civil war.

Reacting, Igboho, in a statement by his spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, said: “We know President Muhammadu Buhari is the Patron of all the Fulani worldwide. But Yoruba land can never be conquered by Fulani.

“President Muhammadu Buhari was reminding Nnamdi Kanu and the Igbos of the massacre they carried out during the Biafra War. The President should know that this can never be repeated again in any of our land.

“We have all woken up to Fulani Agenda.”

He was arrested by the Interpol at a Benin airport on July 19, 2021, while boarding a flight to Germany.

After spending about nine months in a detention facility in the Benin Republic, Igboho was released on health grounds. But his lead counsel, Yomi Aliyyu, ruled out the possibility of his client’s return to Nigeria anytime soon

I’m coming home, Buhari gov’t must pay me N20bn: Sunday Igboho.

Advertisements

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, has assured his followers of his freedom.

Speaking with the leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua, Prof Banji Akintoye and his Deputy, Prof Wale Adeniran, Igboho said he would soon return home.

The freedom fighter said he would return home and ensure that the Nigerian Government pays him N20 billion as compensation.

Dismissing insinuations that he was sick, Igboho stressed that he was hale and hearty.

He also hinted on continuing the struggle for the Yoruba Nation.

Igboho lamented the spate of killings, kidnappings, and insecurity across the Southwest.

According to Igboho: “Yoruba struggle will remain, and it will be stronger. Yorubas are suffering and smiling. They are killing, kidnapping and doing all sorts in Yorubaland and we are not talking.

“I’m coming back home soon. I’m a true son of the soil. One cannot be scared of his father’s home. Nothing will happen and no one will be scared of anyone.

“All that I’ve asked the Federal Government they are yet to answer, and the court has ruled in my favour. Asides from the judgement in Benin Republic, I’m coming to follow up with my judgement in Nigeria. Federal Government must pay my money. It is 20bn.

“When I get back to my base in Ibadan, I will thank everyone specially again. You will see me well. Dear Yorubas, don’t be scared, Igboho is back.”

Igboho was locked up in Benin Republic following his arrest last year.

He was arrested at a Cotonou airport while travelling to Germany.

The Yoruba Nation agitator had eloped from Nigeria after he was declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS.

Sunday Igboho speaks on his main reason for Yoruba Nation agitation.

Advertisements

Yoruba Nation freedom fighter, Sunday Igboho, has blamed his agitation on the state of things in Nigeria.

Igboho said he would not have embarked on agitation if the Nigerian government had developed the country like the Benin Republic.

He noted that agitations would have been non-existent if the Nigerian government had ensured the protection of Nigerians like the Benin government had done with its citizens.

Igboho disclosed this during a conversation with the leader of the Ilano Omo Oodua, Prof Banji Akintoye, and his deputy, Prof Wale Adeniran in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

The freedom fighter insisted that security operatives in the Benin Republic are not as corrupt as their Nigerian counterparts.

He said the current President of Benin Republic, Tallon, has been able to ensure adequate security of his citizens, unlike the Nigerian government.

According to Igboho: “What was the cause of my coming out and running around to go demand a better country?

“If Nigeria were to be like the Benin Republic of today, what would have made me come out? If our country, Nigeria were like Benin, I would have no reason to agitate because there’s nothing that I want, that God hasn’t given me.

“I have been visiting Benin Republic since 1996; at that time, the police were always at checkpoints collecting bribes from motorists, but when the incumbent President got into power, he eradicated the act.

“In those days, although numerous police officers were always on the streets, stealing and killings were prevalent, but the new President brought that to a halt, and he made a law that DPOs would be held accountable for the actions of thieves operating within their jurisdictions.

“He increased the salary of the police personnel. Benin Republic police officers are paid three times more than Nigerian police officers. There are no more police checkpoints here in Benin, and no matter how far you travel, you’ll not be accosted by thieves on the highway.”

Stressing that the Benin Republic has not experienced a blackout or lacked water for “seven months,” he said the President investigates projects himself.

“If we have such a government in Nigeria, no one will agitate. Citizens will be happy in a country where the government provides stable power supply, adequate security, and adequate water supply, because that is a good government,” he said.

The Yoruba Nation agitator has been incarcerated since last year in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Security operatives picked up Igboho at an airport in Cotonou while attempting to travel to Germany.

He had fled Nigeria to Cotonou after the Department of State Services, DSS, declared him wanted.

He assured those in support of peaceful self-determination through referendum that the struggle continues, as he will not relent in his efforts in that regard.

Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Igboho, has called for dialogue in the quest for self-determination, maintaining that it can be achieved without bloodshed.

Igboho said this in a statement issued on Thursday by his counsel, Yomi Alliyu, in which he sued for calm among his supporters.

“He continues to preach against war seeing what is happening in Ukraine and some parts of Igboland in Nigeria. He implored all, especially his kinsmen at home and in the diaspora, to embrace dialogue in their quest for self-determination without heating up the very fragile situation in Nigeria,” the statement read.

“He believes that their ambition will be achieved without firing a bullet as he used to say at rallies.”

His counsel further quoted him as saying that he would not relent in the push for self-determination and thanked those who supported him while he was in prison.

The statement said: “Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho Oosa thanked all that are supporting him, especially his leaders, Baba Prof Akintoye and Baba Prof. Wale Adeniran and all Nigerians especially his people in Ilana Oodua and Affiliates seeking self-determination.

“He appreciates Chief Dele Momodu being the only Yorubaman of note that came to visit him in Cotonou prison. The statement is the most recent from Igboho since he was freed by Benin Republic authorities on Monday.

Although details of his movement were sketchy in the wake of the development, reports suggest that he will stay in the Benin Republic. Before his arrest after attempting to move to Germany, Igboho was declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) following a raid of his home in Oyo State in July.

Some of his aides are facing trial in Nigeria.

Let’s all carry Guns since Fulani are allowed to use Arms – FFK says.

Advertisements

Fani-Kayode described Igboho as a freedom fighter, who was ready to collaborate with anyone who wants the region to be at peace.

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has said Nigerians should be licensed to carry sophisticated arms like AK-47 if Fulani herdsmen are permitted to secure themselves with the same type of weapon.

He said this on Thursday when he visited Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, who is popularly known as Sunday Igboho, at his residence in Ibadan.

Advertisements

Fani-Kayode said the best strategy to tackle the insecurity facing the nation was for the government to rise up to its responsibility to defend the people.

He, however, said another option to reduce mindless killings of law-abiding Nigerians was for the government to permit individuals to bear arms.

The former minister said since the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd), also urged Nigerians to defend themselves against kidnappers and killers, they should be allowed to carry sophisticated weapons to defend themselves effectively.

Advertisements

Fani-Kayode said, “The Bauchi State Governor said a few days ago that Fulani herdsmen should be allowed to carry AK-47, but I disagree with him on that, but that is his own opinion. If you go by that principle, it makes absolute sense that if Fulani herdsmen are allowed to carry AK-47 to defend their cows and their lives if they feel threatened, then it is also logical that farmers, local people and each one of us to also have that right to defend ourselves against Fulani herdsmen or against those seeking to come and kill us.

“I am totally behind that and I like that. Why not, Americans have that right. If we had that long time ago the killings we are witnessing now would not have the kind of atrocities being committed all over the country.

“Insecurity is not limited to the South-West; you will be surprised at what is going on in the North. But the best way is for the government to rise up and defend us; that is why we pay them. “

He said Igboho was not against law-abiding Fulani or any person from anywhere living in the South-West, but his position was that criminal herdsmen must stop their criminal activities or be flushed out of the region.

Fani-Kayode described Igboho as a freedom fighter, who was ready to collaborate with anyone who wants the region to be at peace.

Igboho said he adopted what Fani-Kayode said, saying he was against criminal herdsmen and other criminals.

Gov Abiodun ‘takes his stand’ on Sunday Igboho’s visit to Ogun State.

Abiodun hinted that the decision followed a briefing by security chiefs, who he said have been charged to put the situation under control and return normalcy to the areas.

Days after Activist Sunday Adeyemo visited Ogun State to chase away Fulani herdsmen, the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, reacted.

There had been cases of killings, kidnapping and raping by those alleged to be Fulani herdsmen in Yewa axis of Ogun State, causing some traditional rulers in the area to cry to Gov Abiodun.

The traditional rulers had reported how their subjects were brutalised by soldiers who they alleged also escorted herdsmen into their communities to graze on their farmlands.

Recall with NoRM that the traditional rulers and their subjects accused both the Federal and State Governments of turning deaf ears to their lamentations.

The security situation in Ogun State had prompted Sunday Igboho, to visit affected communities in Ogun West.

At his visit, Sunday Igboho was well received by residents and traditional rulers, who appealed to him to help them fight those they term as killer Fulani herdsmen, even as the state government said he was not invited.

Members of the community said they have lost count of the number of people killed, raped or kidnapped by the suspected killer-herdsmen, after destroying their farms.

During Igboho’s visit to Oja-Odan and Igua, Fulani settlements and a cattle market were set ablaze by hoodlums, who it was gathered took advantage of the situation and attacked the Sarkin Fulani and his subjects.

In his reaction on Saturday, Gov Abiodun said he had deployed a joint security task force to Imeko, Aiyetoro, Ipokia and other border communities along the Nigeria/Benin Republic border.

This, according to him, was to forestall a repeat of the recent, fatal farmer-herder clashes in the Yewa axis.

Abiodun hinted that the decision followed a briefing by security chiefs, who he said have been charged to put the situation under control and return normalcy to the areas.

While stressing that his government will not tolerate anything that threatens the security of lives and property, he disclosed that security agencies will be given the needed support to deal with the situation and bring the full weight of the law on anyone who chooses to foment trouble in Ogun.

‘I tremble when I hear Sunday Igboho’s name’ – Evicted Seriki of Igangan says.

Advertisements

When asked if he would be willing to go back to Igangan, Saliu said if he was given assurance of safety, he would be willing to go back.

The evicted Seriki Fulani of Igangan, Abdulkadir Saliu, has said whenever he hears the name of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, he gets scared and trembles.

Advertisements

Igboho had issued an eviction order to the Fulanis in Ibarapaland and some hours after his visit to area to ensure compliance, the house and cars of the Seriki Fulani, Saliu, were burnt.

For Saliu, Igboho seems to be the most terrible person in the world.

In an interview with BBC Yoruba, the Seriki Fulani claimed that Igboho and his team killed some Fulani men during their visit to Igangan, including Seriki’s only brother.

Advertisements

Saliu said he originated from Ilorin, Kwara State and had relocated with his father to Igangan in the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

He said he had lived in Igangan since then and prospered in the land.

He said, “I got to Igangan in 1972. At the mention of Igboho’s name, I get scared and shiver.

“I am an indigene of Ilorin, my father and mother originated from Ilorin. I had come with my father to Ibarapa town. He was buried in Ibarapa.

Advertisements

“At the mention of Igboho’s name, I get scared and shiver, because what I experienced on the day he came with his group to my place at Igangan, since my childhood, I’d never seen such, so when I heard he was going to Ogun State, I couldn’t sleep.

“There’s no one that will hear the name of the most terrible person in the world and won’t be scared. You know what he did to me, to my property. My mother had only two children, me and my younger brother. Igboho killed my younger brother. Immediately Igboho arrived, we saw four corpses on the floor. Up till now, there are two corpses on the ground in Igangan that we can’t go to retrieve them.

Advertisements

“Someone over there saw their corpses and called to inform us, but we can’t go to Igangan. The person who called us, we told him to help us get people to go and carry the corpses but he was scared so he fled. Apart from my brother, the police evacuated four other corpses. How will I not get scared when I hear this name? It was God that saved me that day, I could have died.”

Responding to allegations of his involvement in fraudulent businesses, the Seriki Fulani said, “From my childhood, God has blessed me. I am into cattle rearing business. I have no other business. My educated kids work with banks for the smooth running of their business. I am into cattle business, and I have been in this business for a long time.”

He also put the estimated cost of his property burnt in Igangan at N500 million or more.

Advertisements

He said, “I had N1.1 million under my bed, my vehicles: Toyota Venza, Lexus Jeep (SUV), Toyota Corolla, apart from my kid’s vehicles. Their vehicles: Toyota Camry ‘Muscle’, Toyota Corolla (3), Nissan pickup and others and other property in the house. If I consider the food I had in the house. Four flats were burnt down apart from the face-to-face house I built when I just got there. There were motorcyles, cows and all. The cows we have yet to recover are over 207 in number.

“Some people called me from Igangan that some sets of persons had loaded two vehicles with my cows. I can’t go there. The people who called us said they told those who were leaving with our cows that what they did was wrong but they fought them. The worth of that cattle alone is a lot. What about my children that use motorcycles? If I should calculate everything, it might be more than the N500 million I said I lost.”

Responding to the allegations that he shielded Fulani people who kidnapped, killed and committed other atrocities in the community, he said, “There’s nothing like that, there’s no way someone will fight another without trying to pin it on a particular issue. Fulanis get kidnapped more than Yorubas in Igangan. There were so many Fulani kidnappers I reported that are in prison now. Igangan indigenes that were involved in kidnapping, like five of them are with the police now, some are in Agodi prison. I was the one who reported the matter to the police.

“How will I be their godfather and still report them to the police? Why did I choose not to be a godfather to these people I reported and collect money from them? At Tapa, one of the kidnappers is in a prison yard in Ibadan till now, I reported him. There’s another I reported to the police at Lalate. How will I then be a godfather to them? I informed the police of the activities of kidnappers, both Yoruba and Fulani.”

Advertisements

When asked if he would be willing to go back to Igangan, Saliu said if he was given assurance of safety, he would be willing to go back.

He said,

“If the villagers want me back, I will go. I went there with cows; all my life, I deal in cattle. All the while I was there, God always blessed me. My cattle increased every year, it never reduced. How will I not want to go back to such a place if there is assurance that no evil will befall me when I go back. If not, I can’t go back. God has spared me and given me a place to manage. If there’s no assurance of safety, why will I go there?”

”Anyone donating money from any part of the world in order to set Nigeria on fire will never know peace.. it took us alot to get here. Please do not take us back. Don’t kill my dream because of your own ignorance. As a student of history, i know the cost o the last Ife Modakeke crises, where this Sunday Ighoho was said to be an active participant. All of those interviewing him and amplifying the war he is calling for should be subjects of interests to the DSS- if the DSS still knows its duties.

In my life, i dont support nonsense, go and read section 43 of the 1999 constitution one Nigeria. the country as a whole belongs to all of us.

Moment Sunday Igboho ‘begged’ Ooni of ife to forgive him | Video

When Ooni returned, he started tackling me to leave the remaining task to the government to finish. You can imagine that kind of talk?

Yoruba rights activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho has asked for forgiveness from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over a statement he made about the monarch’s visit to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Igboho, who had issued an ultimatum for Fulani herdsmen to vacate Oyo State over their alleged criminal activities, had criticised the monarch saying he failed to tell the President the truth about the crisis during the visit.

Speaking on Wednesday morning at a virtual ‘Townhall With Yoruba In Diaspora’ monitored by NoRM, Igboho expressed surprise that the monarch decided to tackle him instead.

He said, “When Ooni met with Buhari over the herdsmen issue, Ooni should have told Buhari the truth but he did not. When Ooni returned, he started tackling me to leave the remaining task to the government to finish. You can imagine that kind of talk?

“Alaafin of Oyo has asked me to meet him over the matter. Alaafin should have been the one invited to meet Buhari but since the Ooni was invited, he should be bold to tell the President the whole truth and make the demands of the Yoruba people known to the President.

“The Ooni disappointed himself. Some politicians are behind Ooni’s latest move. He invited me to his palace but I refused to go. I would have gone if he had represented us well but he did not. I won’t honour any monarch who does not cooperate with me. Enough is enough, the Fulani have done enough.”

Hours after the town hall meeting, Igboho, in an interview withIsokan Omo Oodua TV monitored by NoRM‘s known Media, denied insulting the monarch.

He, however, begged for forgiveness if whatever he said appeared as an insult to the monarch whom he described as a father to him.

“They said I insulted the Ooni of Ife. I and the monarch, as well as the Olugbon, have spoken on the phone,” he said.

He continued, “The Yoruba tradition doesn’t permit the insult of elders. But because I was pained by the issue, my tongue was caught up in the moment. I spoke according to how pained I was. It wasn’t the Ooni alone I directed my words at, I also did to other elders.

“It’s a case of father and child. I and the monarch have spoken as well as the Olugbon. I did not insult the Ooni. And if it appears as if I did, he should forgive me.”

I won’t help Oyo fight Herdsmen except Makinde affirms my invite – Sunday Igboho.

The villagers had alleged that Wakil and his fellow armed Fulani men had driven away farmers from the village after the villagers served him a notice to quit.

Popular Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has said he will not heed calls to help a community in Oyo combat Fulani kidnappers except the state governor gives him approval to do so.

Noble Reporters Media had on Sunday reported that residents of Kajola village in Ayete, in the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state called on Igboho to come to their rescue and save them from a group of armed Fulani herdsmen headed by one Iskilu Wakil.

The villagers had alleged that Wakil and his fellow armed Fulani men had driven away farmers from the village after the villagers served him a notice to quit.

The people also said they had been suffering from incessant attacks and destruction of their farms from Wakil and his gang for long, adding that they had asked him to vacate their land when the Seriki Fulani of Igangan, Saliu Abdukadir, was given a quit notice by Igboho.

“We are pleading with Chief Sunday Igboho to come to our rescue. The police and Amotekun have refused to help us. So, we will appreciate it if he can come here also to help us,” one of the affected farmers was quoted as saying.

But in an interview with NoRM‘s known Media on Tuesday, Igboho, who spoke through his media aide, Salami Oladapo, said he would only go to Ayete to fight the cause of the farmers there if Governor Seyi Makinde would approve it.

He said, “I know the people of Ayete are calling for help but I will only go to Ayete if the governor asks me to go. After all, he is the chief security officer of the state and he is in the best position to give the order.

“The governor visited Igangan over the weekend and just left yesterday. Ayete is not far from Igangan, whatever affects the people in these communities should be of utmost priority to the governor of the state.

“If the governor gives me the go-ahead today, I will be in Ayete first thing tomorrow morning.”
