Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens Fights To No-Contest.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens rekindled their legendary rivalry with more intensity than ever, as The Master Strategist looked to prove he could handle The Prizefighter by himself.

The two battled each other for nearly 20 minutes, pulling every move out of their respective playbooks with Zayn hitting Blue Thunder Bombs and Owens landing swanton bombs aplenty.

A huge suplex from KO to The Honorary Uce from the top rope nearly splintered Zayn in two and left both combatants on the ground.

Just as Zayn was about to deliver a Helluva Kick to KO, The Bloodline erupted on the scene, causing a no-contest between the two fierce rivals and shocking Zayn into disbelief. The Bloodline put the boots to The Prizefighter with Solo Sikoa delivering a humongous splash onto KO through an announce table.

Triple H is interested in bringing back another former WWE star.

Advertisements

Triple H is not done bringing in talent that was released under the Vince McMahon regime.

Last night on WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Emma wrestled her first match in WWE in almost 5 years and Fightful Select is reporting that the company has an interest in bringing back “several” women. One of the names being talked about is Tegan Nox (Nixon Newell).

Nox was among many people released last year due to “budget cuts.” Nox was moved up to the main roster in the summer of 2021 and she wrestled a handful of matches on SmackDown but then was let go just a few months later. She has not wrestled on any independent shows since her release from WWE. Fightful was told that there were visa issues that slowed things down for her.

Advertisements

During her final months in the company, Nox teamed up with names like Shotzi, Aliyah, Liv Morgan, and Naomi on SmackDown and at live events. She was considered to be one of the good in-ring workers in NXT so it makes sense for WWE to express interest in bringing her back

Becky Lynch mocks Ronda Rousey for doing similar stuff on SmackDown.

Advertisements

Becky Lynch is once again a babyface with The Man gimmick that made her a top star for WWE. With that, she is having fun with social media and did so recently with Ronda Rousey.

Lynch recently took a jab at Rousey after responding to a fan on Twitter that shared a clip from Friday’s SmackDown where Rousey made her return during the contract signing between Shayna Baszler and SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan. Rousey dumped money on the table to pay her storyline fine.

This is similar to what Lynch did a few years ago. She agreed with a fan who said Rousey likes to imitate her.

Lynch is currently on the sidelines due to a separated shoulder injury she suffered at SummerSlam. It’s believed WWE will book Rousey vs. Lynch at WrestleMania 39, but that may change now that Vince McMahon is no longer in control of creative

Raquel Rodriguez’s finishing move name too vulgar, WWE makes a change

Advertisements

WWE has made a change to Raquel Rodriguez’s finishing move because the name of her move was deemed to be vulgar.

Tonight on WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Rodriguez’s move was called “The Texana” instead of the “Chingona Bomb.”

Last week, the announcers referred to the move as the Chingona Bomb but it was muted due to a 7-second delay. Apparently, WWE found out the meaning of Chingona while they were on the air because the announcers wouldn’t have said it if they were informed ahead of time.

To many people, the word Chingona means a “bad ass woman” but the word is also a form of Ch*ngar, which means “f**k.”

So, it looks like WWE decided that it was just better to rename the move.

See which SmackDown star getting new gimmick next week.

Advertisements

During tonight’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, it was announced that Madcap Moss would be returning next week to get revenge on Happy Corbin for attacking him a couple of weeks ago.

Noble Reporters Media exclusively reported about WWE’s plans to give Moss a character makeover with new gear and the comedy aspects of the gimmick being dropped.

WrestlingNews reported on 5/14: “WrestlingNews.co has learned that there have been pitches to have Moss drop the comedy aspects from his character and there’s been talk of him getting new gear and new music.”

Moss confirmed on Twitter that fans will see a different side of him next week. He tweeted, “You spit in the face of Andre’s legacy. You tried to end my career. But you didn’t – cuz Madcap is built different. Corbin, get ready to see a side of me you’ve never seen before. No jokes. No cap. Next week on #SmackDown I’m coming to WHOOP YOUR ASS”

During SmackDown, they showed a “Madcap Moss” graphic but Michael Cole and Pat McAfee simply called him Madcap. If he doesn’t get a different name, it sounds like they are at least considering dropping his last name.

Moment Ronda Rousey wins SmackDown Women’s title, makes Charlotte Flair quit

Advertisements

In an “I Quit” Match, Ronda Rousey challenged Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania Backlash.

There were no rules in this match which meant that they were able to fight outside of the ring as long as they wanted and they could use weapons.

The match ended with Flair telling Rousey that she had one more chance to quit and she wished her a happy mother’s day. Rousey grabbed Flair’s arm and put it in a chair and “broke” it and forced Flair to quit. Rousey is the new champion

WWE made a late change to SmackDown match.

Advertisements

Plans are known to change all the time in WWE and it happened again just an hour before Friday’s SmackDown went live on FOX from the DCU Center in Worcester MA.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported Rhea Ripley vs. Sasha Banks was originally planned for the show and was still listed internally as late as 7pm EST, about an hour before showtime.

However, WWE ended up going with Ripley facing Naomi on the show with the former Raw Women’s Champion going over. As of this writing, no other late minute changes were made to this show, although we will pass along anything that is reported.

This match was done to further promote the upcoming match on Monday’s episode of Raw where WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Naomi will defend the titles against Ripley and Liv Morgan.

Banks recently came out in an interview and noted that one of her goals in 2022 is to headline a WWE show in Saudi Arabia. Both Banks and Naomi have competed in past Saudi Arabia events.

WWE is bringing in some top stars from the SmackDown roster for Monday’s Raw.

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos, Drew McIntyre, and New Day are all slated to be at the show. Pwinsider.com reports the current plans are for the SmackDown stars to work a dark match to close the event.

It’s possible that at least one of the stars appear on the broadcast such as Reigns considering Raw doesn’t have a top singles title right now after the WWE Title was unified with the Universal Title at WrestleMania when Reigns beat Brock Lesnar. Here’s the lineup for Raw:

Cody Rhodes vs. The Miz
AJ Styles vs. Damian Priest
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Naomi defend against Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan
Rey Mysterio vs. Veer Mahaan

Joe Hennig and Ariya Daivari worked backstage at WWE SmackDown

Advertisements

Two former WWE stars were brought in to work backstage at tonight’s Friday Night SmackDown on a tryout basis.

Fightful is reporting that Joe Hennig worked backstage as a producer. Hennig is known to many fans as Curtis Axel. He is the son of “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig. The report stated that Hennig, under Tyson Kidd, helped produced the match between Sasha Banks and Liv Morgan.

Also, former WWE star Ariya Daivari, under Abyss, helped produce the match between Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn.

Hennig was released by the company in April of 2020 and has not done anything in pro wrestling since he was cut. Daivari was released in July of 2021 as part of mass budget cuts related to the pandemic. He has been very active on the independent scene and he has appeared on AEW Dark episodes and one episode of Rampage in a loss to Dante Martin.

Raquel Gonzalez debuts on SmackDown under a new name.

Former WWE NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez made her SmackDown debut tonight in a backstage segment.

Gonzalez will now be known as Raquel Rodriguez. During the backstage segment, Los Lotharios walked in and tried to get a kiss out of her but she declined. Rodriguez had been rumored for a main roster call up for weeks.

In the previous segment, Gunther made his SmackDown debut and he won a squash match against Joe Alonzo. Gunther was accompanied to the ring by the former Marcel Barthel, now known as Ludwig Kaiser.

See who’s getting a name change on SmackDown tonight.

Another WWE star is getting a name change, as first reported by WrestleVotes.

WrestleVotes tweeted, “There’s a name change for a debuting superstar tonight on SmackDown that is probably the worst one yet. Like picked from a hat and blindfolded, that’s how they got here type stuff.”

WrestleVotes did not say who is debuting tonight but it could be an NXT star. For what it’s worth, it was reported this week that Gunther and Marcel Barthel would be moving on to the main roster and Fabian Aichner will likely stay in NXT.

There have also been rumors about Raquel Gonzalez moving up to the main roster so it’s possible that she might be getting a name change.

New segment announced for tonight’s WWE SmackDown.

Advertisements

WWE has started to announce things for tonight’s episode of SmackDown as a Happy Talk segment with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss has been added to the lineup.

At WrestleMania 38, Corbin was defeated by Drew McIntyre, who was supposed to have a special entrance for the match, but decided to nix it. This was the end of the several-month storyline that started in January at Day 1. Following the match, McIntyre actually swung his sword at Madcap Moss and cut down the ropes to the ring.

The only thing else announced for tonight’s SmackDown, which will feature the fallout from WrestleMania, is Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns revealing his next step following his big win over Brock Lesnar in a winner take all title unification bout.

As previously reported, Cody Rhodes is no longer planned to be at the show while Lacey Evans, who is expected to return to TV soon, is there.

WrestleMania: Backstage news on why Charlotte Flair def. Ronda Rousey.

Advertisements

WWE started the feud between Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in late January once Rousey returned and won the Women’s Royal Rumble match to earn a championship match at WrestleMania. Rousey decided to challenge Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Title.

Rousey was the heavy favorite to win the title at WrestleMania 38 Saturday, but WWE decided to have Flair go over. The match finish saw Rousey tap out Flair with an armbar, but the referee was down. When Rousey got the referee up, Flair connected with a big boot to retain the title. With such a finish, a rematch is expected.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE plans on having Flair and Rousey extend their feud. Meltzer wrote, “the idea is for this to be a long-term program and thus the belief was Flair had to win the first match, even if Flair got the better of Rousey as well in the angles leading up to it.”

Although WWE has yet to announce when the rematch will take place, Rousey is advertised to work WrestleMania Backlash on May 8th.

Many SmackDown stars booked for Monday’s Raw.

Advertisements

The trend of Raw wrestlers booked for SmackDown and vice versa is continuing next week.

PWinsider.com reported today that at least 3-4 SmackDown talents are slated to be at this Monday’s Raw in Detroit, Michigan. The belief is that they will be there just to work dark matches, which has been done as of late to help ticket sales. It’s possible someone from the SmackDown brand will appear on the Raw broadcast.

WWE is advertising Raw’s Seth Rollins for tonight’s SmackDown. In late March, WWE started bringing in stars from other brands to work these shows including Alpha Academy and RK-Bro. The WrestleMania go-home edition of Raw saw Roman Reigns and The Usos appear on the show to help further build WrestleMania.

Three matches have been announced for Monday’s Raw including AJ Styles vs. Damian Priest, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Naomi vs. Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan, and Rey Mysterio vs. Veer Mahaan.

Lacey Evans returning to WWE TV.

Advertisements

As it was noted this week by PWInsider, Lacey Evans is scheduled to be backstage tonight at Friday Night SmackDown. At the time, it was not confirmed 100 percent that she would be appearing on tonight’s show because oftentimes, wrestlers are asked to fly in for a dark match or to hang out backstage ahead of their return.

Dave Meltzer confirmed in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that her return is imminent because new photos and animated graphics have been made for her. Meltzer stated that her return is “expected shortly.”

Evans has been out of action for a little over a year after she announced that she was pregnant with her second child. Evans was involved in a feud with Charlotte Flair at the time and Ric Flair was involved. The storyline was dropped due to the pregnancy. If she returns tonight on SmackDown, there is an opportunity for her to resume her storyline with Charlotte.

Raw star no longer expected to be at tonight’s SmackDown.

WWE has changed plans for Cody Rhodes as he is not going to be a SmackDown tonight.

Pwinsider.com reports Rhodes was slated to be at the show, likely to work a dark match, but this morning they were told “that is no longer the plan and Rhodes is not expected” for the event.

It’s unclear exactly why WWE changed plans for Rhodes. A returning WWE star is still expected to be at the show and Seth Rollins is advertised to be at the show as well.

After making his WWE return at WrestleMania 38 where he beat Rollins, Rhodes did a promo on Monday Night Raw where he noted that the reason he returned to WWE was to win the WWE Title in honor of his father, Dusty Rhodes. During an appearance on WWE’s The Bump this week, Rhodes stated that the promo wasn’t scripted.

Raw star advertised for Friday SmackDown.

Advertisements

Seth Rollins is advertised by WWE’s website to appear at Friday’s SmackDown from the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, WI.

It’s unclear exactly what WWE has planned for him at this show and if he will appear on the broadcast. WWE reportedly had plans to use Raw stars at SmackDown shows going forward and vice versa for dark matches to help boost attendance.

According to the Fiserv Forum, two dark matches are advertised to take place including SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey, a WrestleMania rematch where Flair went over. The listing isn’t updated as Rick Boogs, who suffered an injury at WrestleMania, is advertised for the other dark match. Rousey is not advertised by WWE’s website to appear.

Rollins just lost to the returning Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 38 Saturday. They had a staredown on Monday’s Raw where they shook hands in respect.

AJ Styles clarifies he extended his contract with WWE, not a new deal.

Advertisements

Although AJ Styles is staying with WWE, that doesn’t mean he has signed a new deal. This past February, it was reported Styles signed a new deal that was for big money.

Styles told Alex McCarthy of Inside The Ropes that he didn’t sign anything new, but rather extended his existing deal.

“Well, let me make one thing clear. I didn’t sign anything recently. I had something on my contract where I got to decide, kind of a player option, what I want to do, and we just extended the contract that I already had. So you can’t believe everything you read on the internet except we’re on the internet talking. Time is running out, as far as AJ Styles is concerned. I am getting older. The ability to put on great matches is getting a little bit harder. I don’t want to embarrass myself at the same time. I want to get out while I can and still have somewhat of a legacy. I don’t want to have to work anywhere else. I’d love to work within WWE, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen if I’ll have the chance.”

Styles noted he would like to be a scout for WWE when his days as an in-ring performer are over. He noted that he will have to figure that out with the company when that time comes.

Styles will wrestle Edge in a singles match at WWE WrestleMania 38.

WWE made late change to SmackDown match.

Advertisements

This past Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown saw Xavier Woods defeat Ridge Holland in just 49 seconds, which marked Wood’s first televised match since January. He had been dealing with an injury and was sidelined as a result.

Fightful Select reports Woods wasn’t originally booked in the match as the original plan called for Kofi Kingston vs. Ridge Holland instead with Woods at ringside. As of this writing, it’s unclear why the change was made or if Woods being added to the bout changed the outcome of what WWE originally had planned.

The current plan is to have Woods and Kingston face Sheamus and Butch in a tag match at WrestleMania 38, which is different from the original plan that also included Big E. WWE had to nix that plan for a six-man tag team match – New Day vs. Sheamus, Butch & Holland – due to Big E suffering a broken neck.

Spoiler: Several SmackDown stars booked for Monday’s WWE Raw.

Advertisements

WWE is loading up Monday’s episode of Raw, which is being hyped as “WrestleMania Raw” due to it being the go-home edition of the weekly TV show for WrestleMania 38.

WWE has already announced SmackDown’s The Usos would be wrestling RK-Bro on this Monday’s Raw in Pittsburgh.

PWinsider.com reports more SmackDown stars will be at the show as Intercontinental Champion Ricochet and Shinsuke Nakamura have also been booked for the event. As of this writing, it’s unclear whether they will be appearing on the show or just working a dark match like Raw’s RK-Bro and Alpha Academy did at Friday’s SmackDown. Here’s the card for the show:

WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and Universal Champion Roman Reigns to appear

The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio

Queen Zelina, Carmella, Shayna Baszler & Natalya vs. Sasha Banks, Naomi, Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan

The Street Profits vs. Alpha Academy

RK-Bro vs. The Usos

Ronda Rousey asks why WWE says ‘women’ when referring to SmackDown Championship

Advertisements

WWE continued the Ronda Rousey-Charlotte Flair storyline tonight on Friday Night SmackDown but this week there was no physicality.

Charlotte Flair appeared on the Titan Tron from a movie set and both women talked about how they were going to walk out of WrestleMania as the SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Rousey was trying to recite her scripted lines and she flubbed for a second as she was trying to say SmackDown Women’s Champion. At one point Rousey said, “you can call me your new Women’s SmackDown Champion. SmackDown Women’s Champion? Why do we even say ‘women’ in it anyway? You can call me the SmackDown Champion!”

That appeared to be an ad lib from Rousey but she made a good point because the Men’s titles are not referred to as the “Men’s Championship” but WWE makes the distinction with all of the women’s titles.

Next Friday is the go-home SmackDown before WrestleMania so presumably, we’ll see some physicality between Rousey and Flair before their WrestleMania Saturday match.

Several Raw stars in NYC for tonight’s WWE SmackDown.

Advertisements

WWE begins the final WrestleMania hype tonight on Friday Night SmackDown and it looks like some Raw stars will be appearing on the show.

PWInsider reports that Austin Theory is in New York City for tonight’s SmackDown show that will take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Theory will obviously continue his storyline with Pat McAfee. It’s expected that Vince McMahon will be involved in their match in some fashion at WrestleMania.

Also, it was reported that RK-Bro and Alpha Academy were brought in for tonight’s SmackDown taping and it’s possible that they are just going to be used for just a dark match. Of course, with WrestleMania just around the corner, it’s also possible that they will appear on the live broadcast.
