Advertisements

During a backstage interview, Austin Theory talked about his failed Money In The Bank cash-in last week on Monday Night Raw.

Theory acknowledged that it was not possible for him to beat Roman Reigns and that is why he went after United States Champion Seth Rollins last week. Dolph Ziggler appeared and said he tried to help Theory but Theory clapped back and siad that he is done being called a protege or “the youngest” at anything.

Theory wrestled and Dolph Ziggler moments later and he would have won the match but he proceeded to send Ziggler into the steps at ringside. The referee ultimately disqualified Theory for not listening to the referee’s pleas to stop. After the match, Theory tossed around furniture at ringside and officials ran out to stop him from continuing the attack on Ziggler.

During the match, it was noted by the announcers that Theory no longer has the phone for selfies. He is also more serious and he has dropped some of the goofy things his character was doing under Vince McMahon’s regime

WWE’s internal list of top babyfaces not entirely accurate.

Advertisements

There was a lot of chatter this week about the internal babyface ranking list that states that Cody Rhodes is number 2 behind Bobby Lashley and ahead of AJ Styles.

It turns out that the list is not exactly accurate, as first reported by Ringside News. RSN reports that the initial report on the listing is something that was put together by Bruce Prichard and Ed Koskey. A WWE source stated the following: “Then, every few months, Vince does not like the way it looks and he moves names around.”

The source added that the report is “supposed to be the order of who is number one and number two and down the list, but it’s subjective and nothing is official unless Vince signs off on it” and that it’s not definitive and everything in WWE has to get Vince McMahon’s blessing.

It was also noted that the writers’ assistants update the rosters on a daily basis and while the leaked list is a good reference, it is not “an accurate look inside the company.” Ricochet is a recent example of the constant changes in WWE. A couple of weeks ago he was slotted as the number 2 babyface on SmackDown and then he wasn’t booked for WrestleMania.

At this point, it looks like WWE is all in with Cody’s push as one of the top names on the roster. He is scheduled for a rematch with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania Backlash and things seem to be trending towards an eventual shot at the WWE Universal Championship. Of course, plans can always change in WWE and Cody is considered a top star right now but that may not be the case in 6 months. His treatment in WWE will be interesting to keep an eye on.

WWE Raw plans for Cody Rhodes changed shortly before going on air.

Advertisements

Last week when Cody Rhodes opened up Raw after WrestleMania, the plan was not for him to kick off the show. In fact, the internal run sheet did not list Rhodes as kicking off the show until after 7 pm eastern.

Fightful is reporting that Rhodes was originally scheduled to close out the show but plans changed late in the day just before they went on the air.

The report states, “On Monday, the Cody Rhodes segment was scripted to go on last, even appearing internally as such until about a little after 7 PM EST. We weren’t told a reason the Cody and Reigns segments were flipped.”

What ended up closing the show was Roman Reigns’ in-ring promo where he teased that fans would find out his next step during Friday Night SmackDOwn.

Rhodes’ promo was reportedly 100 percent scripted despite claims that he was not scripted. Rhodes is scheduled for Raw in a match against The Miz. That may end up being an angle because Rhodes is listed for matches against Seth Rollins at the house shows.

Raw star advertised for Friday SmackDown.

Advertisements

Seth Rollins is advertised by WWE’s website to appear at Friday’s SmackDown from the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, WI.

It’s unclear exactly what WWE has planned for him at this show and if he will appear on the broadcast. WWE reportedly had plans to use Raw stars at SmackDown shows going forward and vice versa for dark matches to help boost attendance.

According to the Fiserv Forum, two dark matches are advertised to take place including SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey, a WrestleMania rematch where Flair went over. The listing isn’t updated as Rick Boogs, who suffered an injury at WrestleMania, is advertised for the other dark match. Rousey is not advertised by WWE’s website to appear.

Rollins just lost to the returning Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 38 Saturday. They had a staredown on Monday’s Raw where they shook hands in respect.

Rollins: ‘WWE is the premier professional wrestling company on the planet’

Advertisements

Cody Rhodes is the first major star to leave AEW for WWE after many WWE stars going to AEW following them either being let go or decide to leave on their own.

Rhodes made his return at WrestleMania 38 Saturday where he beat Seth Rollins after Rhodes decided to leave AEW in February when his contract expired.

While speaking with The Gorilla Position, Rollins recapped the match and was asked who he would like to see walk through “the forbidden door” next. He didn’t give an answer but did put over WWE for being the place for wrestlers to prove that they’re the best in the world.

“Oh man, anybody who wants to come work in the big leagues. I said it to him, I’ve said it before, this is the premier professional wrestling company on the planet. I know, ‘Oh don’t say professional wrestling,’ doesn’t matter. We have the best in the world and now we have Cody Rhodes on top of that and he is joining that club. So if you want to be the best, don’t go play rinky-dink, come here, do your thing here.

We are the best, top-notch, across the board. I’m not taking anything away from anybody else who is anywhere else, I love it, do what you do, you guys are tremendous and there are great talents out there, but this is where you are the best. This is where you find out if you can hack it on the top top top level.”

Watch How It Happened – Seth Rollins Finally Shows Respect To Cody Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes kicked off tonight’s WWE Raw after WrestleMania show.

Cody said it’s 47 days since the news about his free agency. He talked about “nonsense” theories about his decision to return to WWE. He said his decision to return was not difficult and he referenced “the star that left them in the dust” and he’s signed a multi-year agreement with WWE.

Cody said any glimmers of doubt and trepidation were eradicated on Saturday night when he returned to defeat Seth Rollins. Cody then showed a photo of Dusty Rhodes from September 27, 1977. The photo, shown on the big screen showed Dusty holding the WWWF Title. Cody said that Dusty was a lot of things to people but “to me, he was my hero.”

Cody said that the photo was on the mantle of his parent’s bedroom until Dusty’s last day. Cody said Dusty never won the WWWF Title because he won his match via countout. Cody said he knew at 8 years old that he would win that championship belt and he would place it into Dusty’s hands unfortunately that dream died but while he can’t physically put the title in his father’s hands, he can still put it around the waist of The American Nightmare.

Cody added that he is finally ready and he is going to win the WWE Championship for himself, his family and for The American Dream Dusty Rhodes. At that point, Seth Rollins walked out to the ring. Cody put his hand out and Seth Rollins shook his hand.

It’s official. Cody Rhodes has signed with WWE and he is confirmed to be the mystery opponent for Seth Rollins at WWE WrestleMania 38. He came out to the “Kingdom” theme he used in AEW and he got the rising entrance from under the stage.

Notes from the match:

Rollins had a choir for his entrance. Cody got a massive pop as a top-tier star would. Cody hit some offense on Rollins and then Cody did the old Stardust dance and gesture to symbolize that he is brushing off the past. Cody got in most of the offense in the first couple of minutes.

Cody and Seth tried to suplex each other but they ended up crashing hard over the top rope and to the floor. Cody shoved Rollins in the ring post and he continued to work on the arm as they moved back into the ring. After taking a kick to the mid section, Rollins fought back with a kick to the head but Cody grabbed the arm again and he drove Rollins to the mat.

Cody went for a crossbody off the top but Rollins hit him with a dropkick. Rollins hit a gutbuster and then he attempted the pin. Rollins yelled “welcome back to the big leagues b*tch” as he hit forearms to Cody’s back. Rollins hit a back elbow and a chop but Cody hit a forearm and powerslam. Cody then clotheslined Rollins over the top rope and then did a dive onto Rollins at ringside. Cody’s back burns haven’t healed from that fire spot on AEW Dynamite from a couple of months ago. Cody hit a moonsault and he overshot but he got enough that they could save it. Rhodes tried the Disaster kick but Rollins caught him and powerbombed him onto the barricade. Back in the ring, Rollins hit the Falcon Arrow and almost pinned Rhodes. They countered their finishers, Rollins rolled up Rhodes, he kicked out and Rhodes hit the Cross Rhodes but Rollins kicked out. Huge pop. Rhodes tried a move off the top but Rollins recovered and knocked him onto the turnbuckle. Rollins then executed an inverted superplex off the top turnbuckle, followed by another one. Rhodes kicked out of the pin attempt. Rollins missed a Phoenix splash, Rollins avoids the pedigree, Cody powerbombs Rollins. Cody hit the Cody Cutter off the top rope and Rollins kicked out again. Rollins hit the pedigree but Cody kicked out of the pin attempt. They traded chops and punches. Rollins hit rolling elbows to the face and one to the back of the head. Cody hit the Cross Rhodes two more times, followed by the Dusty Rhodes flip flop and fly. Wow, amazing reaction from the crowd. He hit another Cross Rhodes and pinned Rollins

Happy Corbin thought Madcap Moss might have died during his injury scare.

Advertisements

Happy Corbin appeared on this week’s “After The Bell” with Corey Graves to discuss seeing Madcap Moss’ injury happen, as well as his thoughts on Triple H.

Corbin was asked what went through his mind when he saw the top of Madcap Moss’ head hit the mat in the match against Drew McIntyre in Saudi Arabia:

“I was five feet from it, and when I watched his head literally go straight into the canvas, like first of all, I was in shock. For athletes, the worst thing you can see is someone else gets hurt. It scares us all,” Corbin said.

“We would put our lives on the line, whether it be on a football field, or boxing, or wrestling. It doesn’t matter. Your life is on the line. So that was terrifying because you don’t ever want to see somebody get hurt.”

“But then I have like all these other things going because he’s hit and like I’m like, ‘Okay. Number one, he might be dead. Number two, he’s probably going to have a broken neck or a bad concussion.’ So in my brain I’m going ‘Okay, how do I finish the match in his place?’ I don’t know how to finish it as I’m processing what can I do? Then I see him get closer. I pulled him out of the ring and checked on him because he’s moving. I’m like, ‘Are you good?’ So we have to find time to let him regain where he’s at, I guess, you know, because he’s, in my mind, should be concussed. I don’t know how, but that man has the strongest neck in the world because no concussion, nothing broken, and in my mind, he was going to get stretched out.

“When the camera cuts me and I fall to my knees, it’s 100% legit because I’m going okay, he’s going to get stretchered out. How do I save this?’”

“Afterwards he didn’t even realize it. I’m like, ‘Dude, are you good? Like, this is crazy. He’s like, ‘Was it that bad?’ and I was like, ‘What do you mean? Go watch the replay’. He saw the replay and he’s like, ‘I feel nauseous’, after he saw it.”

Thoughts on Triple H:

“When you’re around a guy that often, you know, when we were in NXT, we were seeing him every Wednesday. We were seeing him at the PC on regular days. He was coming in. He was training. He was grabbing on to a few people and helping them with things, and he just had a vision, especially when he was down there in NXT of how he saw guys and put the right people around them to be successful,” Corbin shared.

“You know, if it was a guy who’s a wrestling technician, get him with Norman Smiley. Get him in there with a guy like that who can teach them all of those things. Or if he sees a guy like me, I promise you Taker didn’t just didn’t go, ‘I’m going to go talk to this random guy.’ I’m sure Triple H is going, ‘Hey Taker. This guy I think is in your wheelhouse. Go have a conversation with him. See if you grab on to him at all.’”

“That’s one of the special things that Triple H has is he can surround you with the right people to help find success. He knows. He sees it. He has the vision, and he helps to allow you to accomplish that vision, and he has fun with it. I think he loves it.”

Other topics covered on this week’s episode include Corbin’s upcoming WrestleMania match with Drew McIntyre, advice from The Undertaker and the proper way to grill a steak.

AEW referencing WWE on TV ‘reeks of desperation’ – Seth Rollins.

Advertisements

Seth Rollins surprised fans when he namedropped Jon Moxley during a promo segment on WWE Friday Night SmackDown in January while continuing to build his feud with Universal Champion Roman Reigns ahead of their title match at the WWE Royal Rumble.

Speaking to Jimmy Traina of the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast, Rollins said no one backstage mentioned anything to him about bringing up Moxley’s name, and the reason he mentioned Moxley’s name was due to him being part of their history.

There have been some AEW stars who have mentioned WWE on television such as CM Punk and MJF. Rollins said it’s an easy way for AEW stars to get attention by mentioning WWE.

“Yeah, to me, it’s one of those things where, if it’s very useful, it’s fine. To me, the references you spoke of are two kinds of different things, right?. I didn’t use the reference to Mox to talk down to somebody. I wasn’t trying to diminish anyone’s accomplishments…it wasn’t like that. He’s part of our story, Roman wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for Mox and I. The other side of that coin is the way that it can be used by those guys. And look, they can do whatever they want. I find it very tacky and low-brow, personally. I think it looks and reeks of desperation. I don’t think it’s anything on our television show that we need to go there and talk down about those guys. They are doing their thing, they’re doing it very well, we’re very happy for them. I am, at least personally. Are they on our level? No. They have a long way to go to catch up to us. That’s fine and they know that. They do things differently. From my perspective, it’s a little step down for us to use it as an insult. And so that’s my perspective. People may not share that opinion.”

Vince McMahon announces that Seth Rollins is going to WWE WrestleMania.

Advertisements

WWE posted footage of Seth Rollins’ visit to the company headquarters in Stamford, CT.

Rollins walked into McMahon’s office and asked if he would be fined, suspended, banned for Raw, or fired. McMahon said that he didn’t ask Rollins into his office to fire him and he was surprised that Rollins didn’t win his way into WrestleMania.

McMahon said that Rollins should have asked instead of jumping through so many hoops and this year’s WrestleMania is different from all of the others and it’s a good idea if Rollins is in it.

McMahon said that Rollins would have his “own main event” and he’s going to WrestleMania. McMahon did not say who Rollins would be facing on the show and he won’t know until he’s in the ring. This lines up with previous reports from Dave Meltzer that stated that WWE was likely going to hold off on Cody Rhodes’ return until WrestleMania.

WrestleMania: Seth Rollins to meet with Vince McMahon on Monday.

Advertisements

WWE is using social media to continue Seth Rollins’ storyline heading into WrestleMania. Rollins posted a screenshot of a text message he received from Vince McMahon. The message says the following:

Seth:

Someone from my office is going to be reaching out to you to set up a meeting at corporate headquarters.

I want you in my office at 9 a.m. on Monday.

This development is happening after Rollins threatened to hijack Monday Night Raw if he did not get a WrestleMania moment. Per the current storylines, Rollins does not have a path to WrestleMania. It’s widely believed that he will end up facing Cody Rhodes on the show. It’s unclear if Rhodes will be appearing on Raw this Monday or if they will save his return for WrestleMania.

Rollins has had numerous chances to get on to the WrestleMania card. In recent weeks, he lost a match to AJ Styles and Kevin Owens where he would have taken their spot on the show if he had won. Rollins and Owens also failed to win the Raw Tag Team Titles a few weeks ago.

This Monday’s Raw is the go-home show for WrestleMania. WWE is also advertising that Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will be there.

Backstage news on WWE’s plans for Cody Rhodes’ look and entrance music.

Advertisements

There has been a lot of speculation as to what music Cody Rhodes will use when he returns to WWE. There’s also been some talk/concern from fans that WWE might want to change his character, as Vince McMahon has done with many wrestlers that debut/return.

As of now, it looks like there is a good chance that fans will see the same Cody Rhodes that fans saw in AEW, and WrestleVotes is reporting that two people high up in the company have expressed that the visual of him crossing the line as the “American Nightmare” is significant.

WrestleVotes tweeted, “Two very high profile people were adamant to the boss that if (when) Cody Rhodes arrives, he should be exactly what he was in AEW. Presentation, ring gear, theme music, pyro, etc. The visual impact of the ‘American Nightmare’ crossing the line is significant here.”

Cody owns his theme song so he would be able to use it in WWE. He was Stardust during his last run but it’s very unlikely that he would be used that way again and all signs point to him getting a big push, at least in the short term.

As many of you know by now, it’s expected that Cody will wrestle Seth Rollins at WrestleMania

WWE: Seth Rollins acknowledges Cody Rhodes rumors, destroys ringside and vows to get himself into WrestleMania.

Advertisements

Once again, Seth Rollins was unable to get himself a match at WWE WrestleMania but he promises that he will make it happen next week.

For weeks, WWE has been pushing that Rollins does not have a path to WrestleMania. He would have been inserted into the show if he defeated Kevin Owens last week but that didn’t happen.

On this week’s show, Rollins was able to get a match with AJ Styles and if Rollins won then he would go on to face Edge at WrestleMania. Rollins lost via disqualification when Edge went out to ringside and attacked Styles with a steel chair.

Rollins was upset and declared that this is “bulls*t” and that next week, Raw will not happen until he gets his match for Mania. Fans chanted for Cody Rhodes as Rollins destroyed the ringside area.

It’s no secret to the fans who attend shows that it will be Rollins vs. Rhodes and there were louder chants for Cody earlier in the show. Rollins acknowledged the chants as he referenced “rumors.” Earlier in the show when the fans chanted for Cody, Rollins said the following: “Rumors are a lot of fun, but rumors don’t make moments and I am living for my Wrestlemania moment.”

It looks like it’s possible that Cody will appear on next week’s show but Dave Meltzer stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE has been considering holding off on Cody’s appearance until WrestleMania, similar to how the Hardy’s returned at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando.

Tag team championship: Seth Rollins, Buddy Murphy defeats K.O, Samoa Joe ..

On paper, Kevin Owens & Samoa Joe finally getting their hands on Seth Rollins & Buddy Murphy is easy money, especially considering they arranged for The Viking Raiders to ambush AOP in the locker room area.

But Rollins & Murphy’s Raw Tag Team Title defense against Owens & Joe went south when Joe whiffed on a suicide dive, apparently suffering an injury that took him out of the match.

Despite losing his partner, Owens fought the good fight and even had a chance to close. But without Joe at his side, KO was forced to dispatch an interfering Rollins with a Stunner, leaving him open to a roll-up from Murphy and a handful of tights that kept him down for three. Given what happened to Joe, the defeat has to sting double, but it might come down to something far simpler. Like it or not, Rollins & Murphy might just be the real deal.
