Kim Orton, the wife of WWE star Randy Orton, posted a photo of her husband on Instagram in a hospital bed. She did not give details but PWInsider reported that Randy was in Birmingham, Alabama yesterday. Wrestlers are typically flown to Birmingham for surgeries. Orton is out of action with a back issue. If he did indeed get surgery this week then it means that he won’t be back in action anytime soon.

The Usos react to record-breaking WWE Tag Team Title reign.

The run that everyone involved in The Bloodline (Roman Reigns, The Usos, Solo Sikoa, and Sami Zayn) has been on has been unbelievable, as Reigns is in the middle of a long reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. In contrast, The Usos have been the long-term Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.

Last Friday on SmackDown, The Usos faced off against The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) in a WWE Tag Team Championship match where they successfully retained the titles, which came along with a history-making accomplishment for Jimmy and Jey as well.

The Usos became the longest-reigning WWE Tag Team Champions in history today (November 14). The Usos reacted to the accomplishment by writing, “officially the best team in WWE EVER!!!!”

WWE’s original plans for Randy Orton’s return from injury.

Advertisements

Randy Orton has been away from WWE television since May with a back injury. His last match happened on the May 20 episode of Friday Night SmackDown when RK-Bro dropped the Raw Tag Team Titles to The Usos in a unification match. Post-match, Orton was laid out by The Bloodline to write him off television.

Orton was dealing with a serious back injury that WWE feared would cause him to undergo surgery and likely be out of action for the rest of the year. Dave Meltzer later reported that “there is a lot of concern regarding Orton’s back injury and its severity.”

When WWE originally wrote Orton off TV, the idea was that he would heal up on his own and come back later in the year. WWE knew what they wanted to do with him.

According to WrestleVotes via GiveMeSport, WWE’s plans back in May when he first left was for Orton to immediately turn on Riddle whenever he was back.

A lot of things have changed since then, with Vince McMahon resigning and Triple H now leading WWE creative.

Originally, WWE was going to have Orton and Riddle have a short tag team run with Orton turning on Riddle, but they got over so well with fans that they had a lengthy run as a duo.

Randy Orton meets with neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons.

Advertisements

During tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, WWE gave an update on Randy Orton and it seems as if Orton is not going to be back on TV anytime soon.

WWE’s update on Orton:

“Randy Orton is currently undergoing consultations with neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons to determine the extent of his injury and to recommend course of treatment.”

Last Monday on Raw, Matt Riddle announced that Orton has been dealing with severe back issues and he’s had a rough time for the last couple of years. Riddle also stated that Orton had a tough time walking before the Tag Team Unification match.

While it’s possible that Orton is dealing with an injury, it’s also worth noting that Orton gets pockets of time off throughout the year because he has a reduced schedule so WWE could be exaggerating the extent of his injuries.

As previously noted, Orton is one of the names scheduled to face Roman Reigns during the summer, likely at SummerSlam in Nashville.

Lisa Riddle was dragged into news headlines in 2020 when Matt admitted to having an affair while denying sexual assault allegations made by Candy Cartwright.

Lisa also made headlines for a now-deleted Instagram post about the women on the WWE roster. The post stated:

“calling out multiple Main Roster Divas over the past couple of weeks for being straight skinny jiggly fat (not saying they aren’t beautiful, just saying SQUAT). It’s funny because there have been multiple female wrestlers that have asked to train with me. Each one of them look great in their gear. Clearly they know what they are doing (especially if they want to train with yours truly ). ALL females freaking SQUAT and go HARD! I do not have many photos of my rear end in minimal clothing besides these two. Here is a comparison of me, not caring what I look like, just trying to be strong a decent Olympic Lifter, and a mom of 3 vs two females getting paid a TON of money for how they look. Rant over”

There was heat from Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch but Riddle later stated that he privately apologized for his then-wife’s comments.

“I know my significant other said something about Becky that they didn’t like and I also did not like or agree with,” Matt said, “Seth didn’t like me after that and I don’t think Becky liked me or my wife either, which is understandable. It is what it is.”

He added, “We talked. I told him – and this is exactly what I said – I said ‘Hey man, what was said, I don’t agree with it. I thought it was bullcrap. It’s not cool. I just want you to know I apologize, I apologize on her behalf as well. On top of that, I think you’re a great performer and if you would ever have it in your heart to work with me, I would love that.”

Randy Orton speaks on his relationship with Vince McMahon.

Advertisements

Ever since Randy Orton was paired with Triple H, Batista, and Ric Flair as part of Evolution, “the Viper” has been booked as a top guy in WWE. After being with the company for 20 years, Orton has had plenty of time to get to know Vince McMahon as a boss.

While speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Orton noted that McMahon became a father figure to him over time.

“Yeah, it’s been a long, steady growing one. I’d say early on, most of our encounters were because I was fking up. I was very fortunate because he took a liking to me. I think it’s kinda like a father figure on the road. I was so young, and I think he saw a little bit of something of himself in me because I’m a little batst crazy.

He’s seen me throw a tantrum or two and kinda get emotional and lose it. I’ve had a couple of deep conversations with the guy, and he’s known some of the troubles that I’ve went through, so we’re kind of on a different level. I think he kinda sees a little bit of himself in me, and I think that’s why he took a liking to me. I think he also sees that I’m a WWE guy. I started out a WWE guy, and I’m not going anywhere.”

Pat McAfee’s show: Randy Orton talks down on guys from NXT.

Advertisements

Randy Orton appeared on The Pat McAfee Show to promote WWE WrestleMania 38. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Orton talking about changing his in-ring style:

“I got injured very early in my career several times, boom, boom, boom. I had to figure out if I’m going to do this for a long time, if I’m gonna have any kind of longevity, I got to figure out how to do that. That’s what I’ve done. I’ve toned back the physicality to the point where I know what I’m capable of, I know what my body’s capable of, but I also know what I need to do out there in order to get a reaction and I don’t need to break my back. Back in the day with 220 shows a year, you can’t physically survive decades in this industry if you’re killing yourself every night.”

Orton talking about Triple H:

“Triple H just retired the other day. That was emotional for me because if it wasn’t for that man, I wouldn’t be here right now. He saw something in me, and he wanted to, for the business’ sake, he wanted to help the industry and help the business that gave him everything that he loved. His way of doing it is helping guys like me. That was 20 years ago. When you think about it, when he gave me that push in Evolution, he was only in his early 30s. So I think about when I was in my early 30s, where I was in the business, I was nowhere near that level of maturity and understanding of psychology and maturity. He was a man at 32. I remember looking up to him, and it’s kind of funny when I think of myself when I was 32. Like, oh, fck, I had nowhere near my sht together like he did. But it’s motivating to look at that and kind of set that as the example of what I’d like to do for the business that gave me so much.”

Orton said the talent is losing the art of wrestling and some guys who came from NXT don’t know what they’re doing:

“There’s an art to what we do, and a lot of guys have lost that art. Now instead of selling a punch, because you need to sell a punch, now I’m protecting myself because I don’t want to get my fcking jaw broken. That’s unfortunate, but the art to professional wrestling, like when Vince was on he talked about your number one priority above all being protecting your opponent, that’s not taught necessarily in NXT, and I know that because I’ve been in the ring with guys that came from NXT and they don’t know what the fck they’re doing. It’s unfortunate but I think that is just kind of how things are changing.”

Randy Orton to make history at WrestleMania 38.

Advertisements

WWE Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle) will defend their titles against The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) and Alpha Academy (Chad Gable & Otis) in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 38 next Sunday in Dallas, Texas.

Orton is slated to make history by accomplishing a milestone that no one before him has done before.

Orton will be the first-ever wrestler to enter WrestleMania as a Tag Team Champion, a WWE Champion, a World Heavyweight Champion, a United States Champion, and an Intercontinental Champion.

Orton was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion heading into WrestleMania 30 in 2014 for a triple threat match against Batista and Daniel Bryan, who won the match. He also defended and retained his WWE Championship against John Cena and Triple H at WrestleMania 24.

Although he didn’t defend the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 20, he did work a handicap match alongside Ric Flair & Batista to beat The Rock & Mick Foley while holding the gold. Finally, he lost his US Title to Jinder Mahal in a four-way bout at WrestleMania 34.

Did Alexa Bliss help Edge defeat Randy Orton?

Advertisements

Edge will now set his sights on the main event of WrestleMania 37 where he will face one of the top champions from either Raw or SmackDown.

In the main event of this week’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, Edge and Randy Orton faced off for what could be the final time because Edge talked about wanting closure.

Edge won the match with a spear, thanks to a distraction from Alexa Bliss who was sitting on the ring post.

WWE: Alexa Bliss

Bliss spit up a black liquid of her mouth and that was enough to keep Orton distracted for Edge to hit the spear.

Edge will now set his sights on the main event of WrestleMania 37 where he will face one of the top champions from either Raw or SmackDown.

Advertisements

In the opening segment of Raw, Edge did not tell Drew McIntyre who he wanted to face at WrestleMania but said that McIntyre would find out soon.

Edge will appear on SmackDown this Friday Night, presumably to confront Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

SPOILERS

This week’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw kicked off with a segment between Edge and Drew McIntyre but Edge did not say who he will challenge at WrestleMania 37.

WWE: Edge

Prior to Raw going on the air, Dave Meltzer reported that the plan is for Edge to challenge Roman Reigns for the United States Championship.

Meltzer said that he did not know when that match will be officially announced but that is the planned main event for the show.

Advertisements

Meltzer also noted that the Bianca Belair match is not 100 percent right now.

Edge returned to action last night as the 1st entrant in the Men’s Royal Rumble match.

He outlasted 29 other Superstars, including the number 2 entrant Randy Orton, to win the match and to earn a shot at one of the top champions at WrestleMania.

During WWE Backstage on Saturday, Paul Heyman gave a “spoiler” and said that Reigns’ match will be the true main event of Mania 37 so it looks like Reigns vs. Edge will close out the show.

Advertisements

Reigns defeated Kevin Owens in a Last Man Standing Match to retain his title at the Rumble pay-per-view and Bianca Belair won the Women’s Rumble match to earn a shot at one of the women’s titles.

WrestleMania 37 will take place across two nights on April 10 and 11 in Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium and the plan is for fans to be in attendance at a limited capacity.

Randy Orton and Edge both set for ‘Rubber match’

Advertisements

Edge and Randy Orton have been at the centre of one of the most interesting feuds in years on WWE television.

The Rated R Superstar returned to the company at the Royal Rumble in January, eliminating his former tag team partner from the showcase match.

That led to a Last Man Standing match on night two of WrestleMania 36.

The match lasted 36 minutes and concluded with Edge’s victory, seemingly putting the feud to bed.

Advertisements

However, hostilities were renewed at Backlash in a bout that was billed as the ‘Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’.

The two went 44 minutes in an instant classic, featuring spears, RKOs, Rock Bottoms, and all manner of false finishes.

The match ended with Orton’s victory, and there has to be a rubber match if the feud is to actually end properly.

And it appears that WWE has a plan for that.

p1ee0gat041r3411m41lg31h2vtbuf.jpg

It must be noted, of course, that Edge sustained an injury in the Backlash encounter with Orton, tearing his triceps and ruling himself out for up to eight months.

Advertisements

The two were set to face off at SummerSlam but his injury has put paid to that and Dave Meltzer, of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, has now reported that plans have been altered.

It will be an I Quit match, and the two will face off at WrestleMania 37, as transcribed by Cultaholic.

Meltzer is also said to have reported that Edge is currently working on the writing team for RAW, holding “significant creative influence”.

It seems as though he may well have a say in how the match with Orton goes down, then, when they do finally go head-to-head.

If it’s anything like their Backlash battle, we’re in for a treat.

WWE SummerSlam: Randy to face Drew Micntyre

Advertisements

WWE traditionally have four ‘big’ pay-per-views every year, with the biggest party of the summer joining WrestleMania, Survivor Series, and the Royal Rumble as their flagship shows.

Of course, this year’s SummerSlam will be something different to normal.

WWE have already confirmed that the show will not emanate from the planned Boston venue, the TD Garden, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Advertisements

It raises the prospect of another behind-closed-doors show, following in the footsteps of WrestleMania and Extreme Rules.

The main event of the show appears to have leaked ahead of time, though.

Drew McIntyre, of course, is the current WWE Champion, and he has successfully defended the belt on five occasions, beating The Big Show, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley and MVP, in a tag match, and Dolph Ziggler.

And he is set to take on a new opponent at the biggest party of the summer.

Advertisements

Reports have claimed that he will be wrestling Randy Orton at the show, giving the Viper something to do as Edge continues his recovery from a triceps injury.

And Dave Meltzer, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, claims that there is a possibility that Orton could actually win the match and, with it, the WWE Championship, per a transcription from WrestleZone.

The idea is that he would then take the championship into a match with Edge at WrestleMania.

Nothing is confirmed at this point, however, and Meltzer is said to have expressed concerns over the possibility of an Orton win, instead believing that younger stars should be receiving pushes.

Advertisements

The RKO-loving superstar has plenty of history with the world title, holding the WWE Championship nine times, and the World Heavyweight Championship on four separate occasions.

Drew, of course, is currently enjoying his first reign as champion and one has to wonder if making the switch at this point makes all that much sense.

McIntyre has had plenty of excellent matches while holding the belt but he is yet to really get into a meaty feud for the title, and having him give it up this quickly feels like it could be a major error.
