The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu on Wednesday, restated the commitment of the commission to hold the forthcoming general elections as scheduled.
Spokesperson of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, says former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, won’t affect his principal.
Obasanjo formally endorsed Obi for the February 25 election, saying that the former Anambra State Governor has an edge over other candidates. But Keyamo has waved off the development, maintaining that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won’t be impacted.
According to the APC PCC spokesperson, Obasanjo’s action proves that as Atiku’s former boss, he does not think that the PDP candidate deserves to be President this time around.
He tweeted on Sunday: “Quite within OBJ’s right to endorse anyone, but bad for PDP in 2 ways: (1.) Atiku’s former boss does not think he deserves to be President this time around (2) The little support OBJ gave PDP in 2019 & they failed, he has taken that away to LP. No effect at all on @officialABAT.”
Peter Obi, the presidential flag-bearer of the Labour Party for the 2023 election, on Tuesday said Anambra businessman Chief Arthur Eze “is part of the establishment and structure that young Nigerians want to take our country back from”.
𝕹𝖔𝖇𝖑𝖊 𝕽𝖊𝖕𝖔𝖗𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖘 𝕸𝖊𝖉𝖎𝖆 reports that Obi spoke through his spokesperson, Diran Onifade.
The Labour Party candidate (Watch Video Here) described the ‘bitter’ comments ascribed to Eze concerning Obi as unfortunate but not unexpected.
Eze had said he told Obi to jettison his presidential ambition because he does not believe the former Anambra State governor can win in the 2023 election.
“It is the influence of people like that we want to take our politics away from.
“He is part of the establishment and structure that young Nigerians what to take our country back from. (Watch Video Here)
“When we take power from the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, the likes of Arthur Eze will no longer wield the kind of influence they enjoy today.
“You don’t expect them to take this lying down. Our candidate and our campaign remain focused on the take ahead which is to take back our country, rebuild it to make it take its proper place in the comity of nations,” Vanguard quotes Onifade as saying. (Watch Video Here)
Three prominent Congolese figures, including Nobel winner Denis Mukwege, on Monday accused President Felix Tshisekedi of pushing the country towards breakup by bringing in outside nations to tackle its security crisis.
In a sign of mounting pressures on Tshisekedi over DR Congo’s deeply troubled east, the trio said sub-Saharan Africa’s largest country faced “fragmentation” and “Balkanisation.” (Watch Video Here)
This is “the result of a blatant lack of leadership and governance by an irresponsible and repressive regime,” they said in a communique.
In addition to Mukwege, a gynaecologist who co-won the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize for his work in helping women victims of sexual violence, the statement was signed by politician Martin Fayulu, whom Tshisekedi defeated in controversial elections in 2018, and former prime minister Augustin Matata Ponyo.
Scores of armed groups roam eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, many of them a legacy of two regional wars that raged at the end of the last century. (Watch Video Here)
The latest emergency is over a resurgent armed group called the M23, which has seized swathes of territory in North Kivu province since emerging from dormancy last year.
With the DRC’s armed forces floundering, Tshisekedi has called in a seven-nation body, the African Community (EAC), to deploy troops.
The EAC’s members include Rwanda and Uganda, which critics have long accused of stirring up friction in the east. (Watch Video Here)
The DRC in particular accuses Rwanda of abetting the rebels — a claim Rwanda denies, although the assertion is supported in a new report by independent UN experts.
“Instead of providing the country with an effective army, the government has prioritised externalising national security, (placed in the hands of) foreign forces and, even worse, of countries which are behind the destabilisation of this country,” the three said in their statement. (Watch Video Here)
The EAC force is under Kenyan command and Kenyan troops have already been deployed. But key details about its planned size, scope and composition remain unclear.
The M23, under pressure from the international community, took part in ceremonies last Friday to hand the strategic town of Kibumba over to the EAC force.
But the following day, the DRC army said the rebels’ purported withdrawal was a “sham” and accused the group of reinforcing its positions elsewhere. (Watch Video Here)
Tshisekedi, a veteran opposition figure, was elected president in December 2018.
He succeeded Joseph Kabila, who had ruled with an iron fist since 2001, and whose decision to step down marked the country’s first-ever peaceful handover of power.
However, the vote was marked by allegations of rigging, and Fayulu insists he is the legitimate president, claiming more than 60 percent of the ballot. (Watch Video Here)
Tshisekedi, Fayulu and Matata have already declared their intention to contest the next presidential elections, due on December 20, 2023
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called on security agencies to apprehend those he claimed are “anti-democratic forces” bent on truncating the 2023 elections.
Falana raised the alarm on Monday and based his argument on the series of attacks on the facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), bandits’ mayhem, and the activities of some political actors in the country among others. (Watch Video Here)
“In spite of the fact that the facilities are said to be well guarded, the criminal elements involved in the nefarious activities generally operate without any challenge from security forces. If the dangerous trend continues on a larger scale, INEC will not be in a position to conduct elections in the affected areas. It is, therefore, curious to note that the few suspected arsonists have not been charged before any court,” he said in a statement sent to Channels Television.
“The state of insecurity in Nigeria has also constituted a serious threat to the conduct of credible elections. It has been confirmed that elections cannot take place in the over 40 local government areas in different parts of the country which are firmly under the control of various armed gangs, including bandits, (Watch Video Here) terrorists, and known and unknown gunmen. The territories seized by the criminal gangs are in Borno, Kaduna Katsina, Niger, Sokoto, Zamfara, Abia, and Imo States.”
“Unless the security forces are prepared to deal with the anti-democratic forces that are currently disrupting the democratic process, the 2023 general elections may be sabotaged to the detriment of democracy and political stability in the country,” the lawyer added. (Watch Video Here)
In the last 4 years, the Independent National Electoral Commission has so far recorded 50 attacks on its facilities across 15 states. According to reliable data, Imo State had the highest number of attacks on INEC facilities with 11 incidents followed by Osun, Akwa-Ibom, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Abia, Anambra, Taraba, Borno, Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Ondo and Kaduna States.
In spite of the fact that the facilities are said to be well guarded the criminal elements involved in the nefarious activities generally operate without any challenge from security forces. If the dangerous trend continues on a larger scale INEC will not be a position to conduct elections in the affected areas. It is therefore curious to note that the few suspected arsonists have not been charged before any court.
The state of insecurity in Nigeria has also constituted a serious threat to the conduct of credible elections. It has been confirmed that elections cannot take place in the over 40 local government areas in different parts of the country which are firmly in the control of various armed gangs, including bandits, terrorists, known and unknown gunmen. The territories seized by the criminal gangs are in Borno, Kaduna Katsina, Niger, Sokoto, Zamfara, Abia and Imo States.
As the security of electoral officials and election materials cannot be guaranteed in the seized territories the authorities of the armed forces should ensure that an enabling environment exists for the conduct of elections in all the states of the Federation. Otherwise, the elections may be postponed indefinitely in territories controlled by the armed gangs with serious implications for the 2023 General Elections
Last week, the INEC raised the alarm that some politicians have been buying up Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and financially inducing unsuspecting voters to harvest their Voter Identification Numbers (VIN) ahead of the 2023 general elections. Apart from the two suspects who were recently convicted for illegal possession of PVCs in Sokoto and Kano states the sponsors of the criminal enterprise have not been exposed by security forces.
While condemning the illegal purchase of PVCs the Director Publicity and Advocacy of NEF, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has disclosed that “thousands, or possibly even millions of northern voters, particularly women, are being made to surrender their PVCs for a pittance, in most instances not more than N2000. In some instances, they are told their cards will be returned to them after they are processed for additional payments as poverty relief. No cards are returned. Our investigations suggest that this is an aggressive and blatant voter suppression attempt to reduce the voting power of the North.”
On June 8, 2022 the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has approved the establishment of electoral offences desks at the Force Criminal Investigations Department, FCID, Force Headquarters, Abuja, with the Commissioner of Police, FCID, as the desk officer. The IGP also approved establishment of the desks at state commands across the country, with Assistant Commissioners of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Departments as state desk officers.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said: “The mandate of the Electoral Offences Desk Officers includes the collation and investigation of all electoral offences/complaints from members of the public or any quarters, with a view to determining culpability in line with the amended Electoral Act 2022, and proffering charges before Courts of competent jurisdiction for necessary legal action.”
On November 18, 2022, the inspector-general of police (IGP), alleged that some governors were using armed thugs and state security outfits to disrupt campaigns and other political activities. Mr. Baba accused such governors show “traits of political intolerance” which create political tension in the country. On December 4, 2022 the Director General of the State Security Service, Mr. Bichi warned political leaders to do away with usage of thugs when carrying out their activities and urged the youth not to make themselves willing tools for politicians.
On December 11, 2022 the National Security Adviser, NSA, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd) warned state governors using thugs to prevent opposition parties from mounting campaign materials in their domains that security agencies would soon descend on them. Monguno said he was aware that in the last month, at least 52 cases of electoral violence across 22 states including politically motivated assassination of candidates had been reported.
The heads of the nation’s security agencies have been warning governors and other top officials of the political parties to desist from disrupting the democratic process. At the same time, they have been threatening to deal with armed thugs. Instead of issuing empty threats the security forces should proceed to arrest and prosecute the suspects electoral offenders.
Contrary to the general belief among security forces, executive immunity does not cover electoral offences. In Turaki v Dalhatu 2003) 38 WRN 54 at 188, the Court of Appeal held that “If a governor were to be considered immune from court proceedings, that would create the position where a sitting Governor would be able to flout election laws and regulations to the detriment of other persons contesting with him. This would make a nonsense of the election process and be against the spirit of our national Constitution which in its tenor provides for a free and fair election.”
A fortnight ago, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced its plan to limit weekly cash withdrawals over the counter to N100,000 for individuals and N500,000 for organisations regardless of their size while withdrawal at POS terminals has also been limited to N20,000 per day. Since the policy was announced, politicians have engaged in mopping up dollars to induce voters during the forthcoming elections. But the CBN has deliberately refused to ban the reckless inducement voters with dollars.
Meanwhile, no step has been taken by the Federal Government to amend section 2 (1) of the Money Laundering Act, 2022 which provides that “No person or body corporate shall, except in a transaction through a financial institution, make or accept cash payment of a sum exceeding (a)5,000,000 or its equivalent, in the case of an individual ; or (b) N10,000,000 or its equivalent, in the case of a body corporate.”
During the last governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States it was widely reported that scores of vote buyers were arrested by operatives of the EFCC and ICPC. The suspects have not been charged before any court. Similarly, the hundreds of armed thugs arrested during the last primary elections of some of the registered political parties have been let off the hook.
A fortnight ago, suspected political thugs attacked the home of Senator Lee Maeba, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Without conducting any investigation whatsoever the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Okon Effiong said that the attack by the suspected thugs was stage-managed.
However, in view of the reluctance of the ruling parties to allow the police to arrest and prosecute armed thugs and other criminal elements who disrupt elections the Uwais Electoral Reform Panel had recommended the establishment of Electoral Offences Commission. In July 2021, the Senate eventually passed the Electoral Offences Commission Bill. But the Houses of Representatives has deliberately refused to pass the Bill. Therefore, Nigerians should mount pressure on the members of the House of Representatives to pass the Bill and forward same to President Buhari for his assent.
Unless the security forces are prepared to deal with the anti democratic forces that are currently disrupting the democratic process the 2023 General elections may be sabotaged to the detriment of democracy and political stability in the country.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi on Tuesday met with university students in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Obi, who enjoys huge support from young people, says his administration will create an enabling environment for them to thrive, referencing some of the biggest tech companies like Facebook and Google which were created by students.
The former Anambra governor, who is scheduled for a rally in the South-South state, told the gathering that his government then created a thriving environment for Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing among others.

To create room for such a feat, he is promising loans and grants for small and medium-scale businesses formed by students if he becomes Nigeria’s leader next year. This, Obi added, will be a priority for his government.
With youth unemployment at underemployment at 55.4 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Obi maintains that no graduate should be without a job. That, he noted, is why he is also an employer.
On the dichotomy between polytechnic and university education, Obi argued that technology is the future. Polytechnics will be at the core of producing technical graduates who will drive the technological advancement of the country, he said.

Faleke identified the hacker as Lukman Johnny who works with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Abuja.
The hackers are asking unsuspecting Nigerians to pay the sum of N18, 000 in order to access an Empowerment fund from the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organization.
Unsuspecting Nigerians were asked to pay the sum of N18,500 into a designated account provided by the hackers.

An Abuja-based activist, Deji Adeyanju has said the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, would boost the All Progressives Congress, APC, chances in the 2023 presidential elections.
Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu is the APC presidential candidate.
Noble Reporters Media learnt that there have been clamours for the Federal Government to release Kanu following a judgement of the Court of Appeal. However, the court later granted a stay of the order.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja had declared as illegal and unlawful the abduction of Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria and quashed the entire terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
It ruled that the Federal Government breached all local and international laws in Kanu’s extraordinary rendition to Nigeria.
But the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, had vowed that Kanu would not be released, stressing that the Federal Government would pursue other charges against Kanu.
Prior to his arrest, the IPOB leader had vowed to ensure no election was held in the Southeast until the government approved a referendum that would lead to the creation of Biafra.
With his arrest in June 2021 and continued incarceration, some Nigerians believe that releasing Kanu would jeopardise the successful conduct of the 2023 elections in the Southeast.
Amid the clamour for Kanu’s release, some people are of the opinion that APC would get a few votes in the Southeast.

These claims are anchored on the agitations that the Southeast should be allowed to produce Nigeria’s president in 2023.
Of all the top political parties, only the Labour Party, LP, stands a better chance of getting more votes in the Southeast because its presidential candidate, Peter Obi is from the region.
However, Adeyanju said releasing Kanu would boost APC’s chances of getting votes in the Southeast.
Adeyanju noted that politicians can use Kanu’s release as a political strategy in the Southeast.
Speaking with DAILY POST, he said: “It will boost APC’s chances, it will boost the morale of their supporters and that would be to the advantage of the ruling party and the PDP. The only party it will affect is the labour Party who are expecting to get some significant votes from the Southeast.
“If the Federal Government decides to release Nnamdi Kanu, it will increase the ruling party’s chances of getting a favourable outcome in the election.
“It can be used by politicians as a campaign strategy in the Southeast, so they can have something to go home and campaign with.
“Like I have said, keeping Kanu does not add any value to the Federal Government; what value are they going to derive from keeping a man that the court has granted bail and said even his arrest is unconstitutional?
“You can’t build something on nothing in law, and you can’t give what you don’t have. The government can’t in any way prove the guilt of Kanu because they first have to return him back to where he was taken in Kenya. That is a small thing for any court to rule, because it’s extraordinary rendition, which is state capture and abduction of citizens – this is prohibited under international law, and there is no easy way out for the government.

The Azerbaijani defense ministry on Sunday called on Russian peacekeepers operating in the Karabakh region to use the correct names for Azerbaijani settlements.
“It is inadmissible to mention the Karabakh economic region as Nagorno-Karabakh territory,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
Calling on the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces temporarily stationed in a certain part of the Karabakh Economic Region of Azerbaijan to abide by the names mentioned in official documents, the statement said “it is necessary to refer to the names of Azerbaijani settlements in the relevant information with the correct toponyms mentioned in the official documents sent to them.”
“In the official information of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation, published on the official website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on 27.11.2022, the official names of the Azerbaijani settlements referred (to) as “Mardakert” and “Martuni” are AGHDARA and KHOJAVAND, respectively,” it added.
Relations between the former Soviet republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan have been tense since 1991, when the Armenian military illegally occupied Karabakh, a territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan and seven adjacent regions.
Clashes erupted on Sept. 27, 2020, with the Armenian Army attacking civilians and Azerbaijani forces, violating several humanitarian cease-fire agreements.

The verbal war between Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and Senator Ned Nwoko has taken another dimension.
Wike had in a video aimed a dig at Nwoko over the $418 Paris Club refunds.
But reacting, Nwoko, in a statement issued by his Media Directorate, which he personally signed, vowed that it was only a matter of time for Wike to end in jail over his alleged corrupt practices.
He also accused Wike of making fraudulent claims on the alleged payments of 13% derivation to South-South States, describing Wike’s claim as fraudulent.
In the statement made available to DAILY POST, Nwoko said characteristic of the garrulous governor, “Wike carelessly dabbled again into the issue of the $418 Paris Club refunds, a legitimate entitlement of Prince Ned Nwoko, whose patriotic ingenuity, as a time-honoured lawyer, secured billions of dollars in favour of local and State governments, including Wike’s administration as a beneficiary.”
He said Wike was chastising him, (Nwoko) for laying claim to monies the international lawyer genuinely earned and approved by the Federal government following various court judgements and 3 separate EFCC reports supporting the payments.
“When has demands for professional fees duly sanctioned by statutory authorities and scrutinised by anti-corruption agencies like EFCC and DSS become ‘fraud’.
“We are appalled by Wike’s wicked and despicable wild goose chase.
“Ned Nwoko Media directorate asserts on the contrary, the Rivers State governor received a whopping share of over 60 billion Naira from the Paris Club refunds to States, thanks to the sterner stuff of Prince Ned Nwoko who took the Federal government to Courts on behalf of the States and local governments and won, over the arbitrary deductions.”
Nwoko claimed to have infallible evidence that Wike not only collected the huge funds but squandered the proceeds through phantom projects and frivolous travels around the world in crude obscene ego trips.
“Like discerning members of the public, we are aware of Wike’ s primitive hoarding of illicit loot for elections, a dubious game plan that can only be contrived by a man of opaque character.
“Wike spoke of corruption among some governors. Kettle cannot call Pot black. A man with both hands stained with filthy lucre lacks moral justification to utter one word on embezzlement. To go sanctimonious is unpardonable criminality. Wike, no matter the pretence, has exposed himself towards jail.
“We need to remind Wike for the umpteenth time, in case he has forgotten, that 25 innocent children in life support machines died in a Rivers State- owned hospital the same hour because the hospital could not afford electricity. He could not provide electricity, having diverted all funds to meaningless ventures for self aggrandisement.
“At the appropriate time when his dictatorial reign on the high horse is over, he would surely answer charges of criminal negligence at the International Court of Justice for the sad deaths of those children.
“It is laughable that a man of monumental corrupt tendencies and wanton profligacy could so unabashedly talk when his activities connote unimaginable scam and fraudulence.
“Who was Wike when Ned Nwoko returned to Nigeria in 1999 to win the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency seat and mount the green chambers of the National Assembly as a distinguished member, House of Representatives?
“That he was spoon-fed to become governor through godfather syndrome in 2015, desperately grabbing public funds to his chest, should not be a licence to brag and bully. Let Wike disclose the source of wealth he now flaunts with arrogant vainglorious relish. Can he survive outside dirty politics?” Nwoko queried.
On the alleged payments of 13% derivation to South-South States, Nwoko said Wike was trying falsely and maliciously to instigate the people against some governors.
“Wike postures deceptively in panic to cover his tracks on the well-known serious open secret of his involvement in national economic sabotage through oil bunkering.
“If the governor’s mischievous vituperations on the Paris Club refunds are off-key and unserious, his pedestrian shout on Ned Nwoko’s matrimony amounts to nothing. His false, childish tantrums that the man has imaginary ‘20 wives’ sounded like beer parlour gossip, unbelievable from the lips of a governor. How nauseating and condescending. But that is Wike, ever steered by gutter language and uncouth tempers.

“Let Wike delude himself in a bogus gubernatorial robe. By six months time, he would descend into a commoner, stripped of all immunity, bare from boastful manners and haughty airs. Prince Ned Nwoko, a civil fellow who has never been on the street with Wike would then compel him to answer questions about his litany of lies and corrupt misdeeds. He is poised, resolutely waiting to bring the Rivers State governor to justice very soon.
“Since Wike lost the PDP presidential ticket and failed nomination for Vice presidential slot because of his brash and unreliable temperament, he has been weeping, nagging on Television and every fora. Rather than lick his self-inflicted wounds remorsefully, he chose an inglorious path of blame game and transferred aggression. How pitiable for a fake emperor tumbling like the old nursery rhyme clown Humpty Dumpty.
“We hereby wish to emphasise for the avoidance of doubt that no external influence whether overtly or covertly moved Prince Ned Nwoko to challenge Wike’s excesses as the Star Prince of Anioma is a man of his own clout, unaffected and independent by nature.
“He is driven by the conviction as a pioneer and strong stakeholder in PDP, that an unhinged Wike, a latter day political noise maker and opportunist has become a power-drunk bull in a China shop who must be decisively handled, before he plots more divisive embarrassment.”

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Structure and Accountability of the joint Venture (JV) Business and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Limited on Wednesday grilled Shell Petroleum Limited over the alleged tax evasion.
The Committee is empowered to investigate the alleged tax evasion by some oil companies for the past 22 years.
The representatives of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, Total Energies and First E & P appeared before the House panel on Wednesday.
Initially, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abubakar Hassan Fulata indicated that the Committee could only attend to the Chief Executive Officers of Oil Companies, but waived that stance since the invitees presented letters of authorisation to the panel, while he added that the CEOs would appear at a later date.
Panelists expressed anger after discovering that their operations regarding the payment of taxes was not in line with Federal Inland Revenue Service Stock.
Fulata said: “FIRS does not rely on Stock Certificate of Crude Oil, as well as Certificate of Acceptance of fixed Assets (CAFA).
“The Stock Certificates gives clearer pictures of the oil being lifted while the CAFA certificate is the basis for capital allowances claims.”
The leader of the Shell delegation, Bashir Bello said SPDC has been in operation since 1929 and promised the probe panel to furnish them with the relevant documents being requested in exception of CAFA certificate.

The panel affirmed that Shell, Total and First E & P are in violation of Nigeria Law for making capital allowances claims without the CAFA Certificate.
In their separate submissions, the Companies revealed that they have been relying on Petroleum Tax Act to make capital allowance claims, and not the controversial CAFA that is domiciled with the Ministry of Industry.
Reacting, the Committee noted that activities of Oil Companies was not only guided by Petroleum Act, but other laws which they were bound to obey.
The panel demanded that the oil companies among other things furnish the committee with stock certificate, capital allowance enjoyed, contributions to NNPC- JV & PSCs Account.
The committee said in the event FIRS and other organizations failed to honour their invitation, they will have no option than to direct Inspector General of Police to compel them to appear.

The crisis rocking the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, deepened on Sunday when a splinter group called New Afenifere emerged.
The group was unveiled when its leaders met with the Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Lagos State on Sunday.
The faction threw its weight behind the former Kano State Governor, saying with his track record, Kwankwaso has a better capacity to savage the nation.
Division within the Afenifere began when the Acting Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo backed the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi.
Some stakeholders of the group also purportedly endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2023 election.
However, Coordinator of the New Afenifere, Comrade Ajibade Adeyeye, stated yesterday that his group chose to identify with the NNPP presidential candidate, stressing that they are old enough to make their own decisions.

“The new Afenifere hereby states that we are concerned with the socio-political umbrella known as new Afenifere and I dare say we have decided to take our future into our hands to prepare for the upcoming 2023 election.
“We have called on our elder statesmen not to impose on us anyone but to allow us to choose our preferred presidential candidate because we believe we are old enough to make decisions for ourselves and for our future.
“So, on behalf of the New Afenifere, we have decided to forge ahead and endorse the candidature of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, together with his running mate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa to see toward a new Nigeria.”

Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has threatened to remove all billboards in the state belonging to politicians if they fail to pay tax on them.
Recall with Noble Reporters Media that the governor, who before last year’s election claimed he knew where to source funds from across the world, has imposed a number of taxes on Anambra people since his swearing-in.
In the latest press release by the managing director of Anambra State Signage Agency, ANSAA, Mr Tony Ujubuonu, the state government gave two weeks’ notice for all politicians and political parties in the state with billboards to pay up.
Ujubuonu said: “We have given two weeks’ notice to all political parties and their candidates to ensure they have paid for all their campaign billboards or meet the wrath of the agency.

“It has also gotten to the knowledge of the Agency that some political party candidates are erecting billboards on their own ignorantly.
“The Agency wants to state that this is not only wrong but illegal and any such billboard would be brought down without any notice, the structure seized permanently and auctioned.”
The agency gave the grace period to last between 14th of November to 5th of December. It said after the period, all billboards must have been fully registered and paid for to avoid being pulled down.
