LeBron James’ former teammate drops criticism.

Advertisements

LeBron James is currently in his 20th season in the NBA. At LeBron’s age, it is almost impossible to stay at the top of your game.

Somehow, however, LeBron has managed to do it. Over the last few years, he has proven to be a top-10 talent in the league and continues to carry the Lakers.

Unfortunately, LeBron has had a slow start to the season. While his averages are fine, he has noticeably lost a step on the floor. One can just look at last night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where LeBron wasn’t able to put in that extra effort to get the win.

There are some players around the league who believe LeBron isn’t the same. One such player just so happens to be an ex-teammate of LeBron’s. That player is none other than Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. KCP played with LeBron James on the Lakers during the bubble season, and now, he is on the Washington Wizards.

“It’s hard to watch sometimes,” KCP said. “So from me to him, just get the team together, and I just want to see that spark in him again. I don’t think I see that spark in Bron. So, hopefully, he can get it back.”

This is an interesting comment, although we’re not sure how many people would agree. LeBron trained quite a bit during the offseason, and he seemed to have all of the enthusiasm in the world. If anything, this just proves that no one can defeat father time, even LeBron James.

As it stands, the Lakers are 2-7 on the season, and more difficult matchups are on the way. This strength of schedule is brutal for the Lakers, and there is no telling whether or not they can survive. Hopefully, they start to prove people wrong.

Sad October: LeBron James honors Takeoff with pregame outfit.

Advertisements

LeBron James paid tribute to the late rapper Takeoff with his pregame outfit for the Los Angeles Lakers’ matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday. James shared a side-by-side comparison of his look with one of Takeoff’s on Instagram afterward.

“If you know me any then [sic] you know how much I love @yrntakeoff!!” James captioned his Instagram post. “Still doesn’t feel real to me. Rest in Paradise Rocket Man™️!!”

James has been an avid fan of Migos for quite some time. Back in 2021, broadcaster Taylor Rooks asked Quavo about the Lakers star’s support for the Atlanta-based group.

“It’s organic,” Quavo said at the time. “And then, if we’re just feeling the vibe, I know he needs music — sometimes he needs that unreleased music because he in the lab when nobody see it. He in the lab when everybody thinking that he on vacation. So, same way with music. We got songs, we got records in our phone. You might think we doing a show. We got another hit ready to go. You just gotta get ’em geared up like that on some exclusive time.”

Takeoff was shot and killed at a bowling alley in Houston on Tuesday, after a fight reportedly broke out over a game of dice. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner has said that Takeoff is not believed to have been the intended target of the shooting.

Countless celebrities have come forth with posts in honor of the late rapper in addition to James. Future, Gucci Mane, Lil Baby, and many more have all expressed their condolences online.

LeBron James lands in trouble for Migos statement.

Advertisements

LeBron James is an NBA star who has always been known for being a massive hip-hop head. LeBron loves the genre and whenever he has a chance to show love to an artist he adores, you can be sure that he’s going to do just that.

Unfortunately, one of LeBron’s favorite artists tragically passed away last week. Of course, we are talking about none other than Takeoff, who was shot and killed in Houston. Takeoff’s passing was incredibly shocking to many people, and LeBron has made it a point to pay homage. In the Instagram post below, LeBron wore an outfit in Takeoff’s honor.

The Lakers ended up losing against the Cleveland Cavaliers yesterday afternoon. This eventually led to a press conference where LeBron spoke about his love for Takeoff. LeBron even went so far as to say that he had been listening to Migos since 2010. It is important to note that their first mixtape was in 2011.

“I was listening to those guys my first year with the Heat in 2010,” LeBron said. “You can ask any one of my teammates back then, they had no idea who the Migos was… I was like ‘I’m telling you these guys are next.’”

LeBron’s declaration immediately faced scrutiny on social media. The Lakers superstar has a history of lying about his fandoms, and this was seemingly yet another instance of that. Sometimes, fans can be quite over assuming on social media, and you better believe the backlash was on full display.

In the tweet down below, you can see exactly how fans felt about James’ comments. For instance, one fan simply wrote “He really is the greatest liar of all time.” Another echoed those sentiments, saying “Generational liar.” In essence, the general consensus is that LeBron is an elite liar who gets away with all of it.

Adam Silver Responds To LeBron James.

Advertisements

LeBron James has made it abundantly clear over the last year or so that he wants to be the owner of a new NBA franchise in Las Vegas. The league has said that if the expansion were to happen today, they would go to Vegas and Seattle. Of course, that has not yet taken place, although the league is very much aware of LeBron’s new desire.

Recently, Adam Silver was on NBA Today where he spoke to host Malika Andrews about the potential for expansion. Silver noted that the league isn’t prioritizing it right now as they just want to get through the collective bargaining agreement. That said, Silver loves to see players like LeBron wanting to stay involved with the league after their retirement.

Advertisements

“I think its very healthy for the league when you have sort of this life-cycle of players moving into management, potentially moving into ownership,” Silver said. “Obviously Michael Jordan is the owner of Charlotte…its great for the ecosystem. I’m thrilled that LeBron aspires to be an NBA team owner one day. Las Vegas specifically will make a great location for a franchise one day. We have the WNBA team there, the Aces, that obviously just won the championship.”

The prospect of expansion is one that should delight NBA fans. A team in Las Vegas would do wonders for the league and bringing a franchise back to Seattle would also be huge.

Hopefully, Silver and company can make this all happen

The Break: Nike unveils The Serena Williams Building.

Advertisements

When Serena Williams was young, she visited the Nike campus in Beaverton, Oregon. She came away from the trip feeling inspired—not just by the cool tech and cutting-edge athlete research, but even by the buildings themselves.

Sports greats including LeBron James, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Michael Jordan, Mia Hamm, Tiger Woods and more have been honored by Nike over the years, with their names adorning buildings throughout the sprawling campus.

Now, the 23-time Grand Slam winner and former world No. 1 has become the latest icon to join the coveted list, as Nike has announced the completion of the new Serena Williams Building.

“The whole building takes your breath away. Every element, everywhere you go, is an opportunity to be inspired,” Serena said in a statement. “I hope this building encourages people to bring out the best of themselves and to dream bigger than they thought possible.”

Bigger is definitely the key word for the Serena Williams Building: at one million square feet, the equivalent of 140 tennis courts, it’s definitely the largest office building at Nike World Headquarters to date. The structure houses world-class labs for product testing and development, showrooms, workspaces and more.

But the real highlights are the personal touches throughout, including a 140-seat Olympia Theater, named after Serena’s daughter, and an outdoor tennis court dubbed the “East Compton Hills Country Club”—a nod to the old Williams family joke of calling their local Compton courts a “country club”. White roses, one of Serena’s favorites, are planted throughout the main plaza.

I will take Kobe Bryant’s Footsteps – LeBron vows ..

LeBron James vowed Friday that he and his Los Angeles Lakers teammates would continue the legacy of club icon Kobe Bryant, who died Sunday in a helicopter crash.

James, his voice fraught with emotion, addressed the Staples Center crowd before the Lakers returned to NBA action for the first time since Bryant’s death.

Flinging away his prepared notes, James said to cheers he would speak from the heart, calling on all present to celebrate Bryant’s life and a career that included five NBA titles in 20 years with the Lakers.

“I know at some point we will have a memorial for Kobe,” he said. “But I look at this as a celebration tonight.

“This is a celebration of the 20 years of the blood, the sweat, the tears, the broken-down body, the getting up, sitting down to everything, the countless hours, the determination to be as great as he could be.

“Tonight we celebrate the kid who came here at 18 years of age, retired at 38 and became the best dad we’ve seen over the last three years.

“The fact that I’m here now means so much to me,” James said. “I’m going to continue with my teammates to continue his legacy not only for this year but as long as we can continue to play the game of basketball that we love, because that’s what Kobe Bryant would want.”

After the game, James said he decided to deviate from his notes “pretty much when I went up there.

“I wanted to make sure I acknowledged all the lives that were lost Sunday morning and I didn’t want to mess that up so I looked at the names on a paper,” James said.

He movingly pronounced the names of all nine people who died in the crash, a somber list that included Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna.

“But when I kind of looked at the notecards I had or that was kind of being insisted on — and some of it was what I wanted to talk about — I decided for me personally just letting the words flow right from the heart and whatever comes out they’re pure – there’s truth to it.”

One truth he’d come to realize, James said, was that the ruthlessly competitive Bryant had blossomed since retiring in 2016 as he focused on creative pursuits and life with his wife, Vanessa, and their four daughters.

“Seeing Kobe play the game of basketball 20 years for the Lakers since he was 18 to 38, and I was like you know it’s crazy, these last three years, out of all the success he had, five rings, multiple MVPs, All-Star Game MVP, first-league everything, all-life, all-world all-basketball — it felt like these last three years was the happiest I’ve ever seen him,” James said.

LeBron James leads tributes to LA Lakers legend

LeBron James led tributes to LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant in the team’s first game since he died in a helicopter crash alongside his daughter Gianna and seven other people.

The Lakers lost 127-119 to the Portland Trail Blazers at the Staples Center on a night when the team remembered Bryant’s 20-year career in LA, which delivered five NBA championships.

Lakers players wore shirts with Bryant’s numbers – eight and 24 – displayed on them in the warm-up and a ‘KB’ logo was printed on the court.

The tribute began with each member of the Lakers’ line-up being introduced as “number eight, Kobe Bryant”, before R&B artist Usher sang Amazing Grace in front of yellow rose arrangements in the shapes of Bryant’s jersey numbers.

Kobe’s number 24 and Gianna’s number two jerseys were also placed on the two courtside seats where the pair watched their last Lakers game.

“This is a celebration of the 20 years of sweat, the tears, the broken down body, the getting up,” Lakers forward James said.

“Tonight we celebrate the kid that came here at 18, retired at 38 and became probably the best dad we’ve seen over the last three years.”

LeBron James, Usher, Others remember Kobe Bryant at Los Angeles Lakers Game ..

In the first match since the crash that claimed the former Laker’s life, fans chanted and roses adorned the seats where Bryant and his daughter Gianna once sat.
Red roses adorned the courtside seats where Kobe and Gianna Bryant sat at the last Los Angeles Lakers game they attended. On the overhead video board, photos of Bryant in action for the Lakers alternated with those of the other seven people who were killed alongside him and his 13-year-old daughter in a helicopter crash.

Friday night at Staples Center was unlike any other.

Longtime public address announcer Lawrence Tanter introduced the entire Lakers lineup the same way: “From Lower Merion High School, No. 8, Kobe Bryant.”

In a ceremony before the Lakers’ first game since the crash on Sunday, Usher stood at center court of the darkened arena in front of No. 8 and No. 24 yellow rose arrangements to sing “Amazing Grace.” Cellist Ben Hong from the Los Angeles Philharmonic performed while video of Bryant talking about his life and career played.

Fans interrupted the silence with chants of “Kobe! Kobe!” and “MVP! MVP!”

Boyz II Men, from Bryant’s hometown of Philadelphia, sang the national anthem.

LeBron James, wearing No. 24, wiped his eyes as the anthem ended. He and Anthony Davis, wearing No. 8, hugged.

The crowd stood for 24.2 seconds of silence as the shot clocks ticked off the time until the horn blared. Spotlights shone on the empty seats set aside for Bryant and his daughter. His had a black-and-white Mamba jersey and hers a No. 24 jersey.

James stood at center court and read the names of the nine crash victims, ending with Bryant. He told the crowd he had remarks prepared and pulled a piece of paper from his sweatpants. But then James tossed it to the floor.

“Laker Nation, I would be selling you short if I read off this [expletive], so I’m going to go straight from the heart,” he said.

“The first thing comes to mind is all about family. As I look around this arena, we’re all breathing, hurt and heartbroken,” James said. “The best thing you can do is lean on the shoulders of your family.”

James noted there will be a memorial at some point for Bryant.

“I look at this as a celebration tonight,” he said.

In the couple of hours leading up to the game there was mostly silence. The electric atmosphere that surges through the arena before NBA games was nowhere to be felt. Media talked quietly among themselves without the usual music playing. Somber ushers took up their positions with black ribbons attached to their purple work shirts. Grief counseling was offered to arena staff and one female usher pulled tissues out of her pocket that had been provided.

Inside the Lakers locker room, Bryant’s No. 24 gold jersey hung on a wooden hanger from a fire alarm next to James’ locker. It was Bryant’s locker when he helped the team win five NBA championships during his 20 years in Los Angeles.

“He’s been really a tower of strength for all of us,” Lakers coach Frank Vogel said of James. “We’re following his lead.”

Dwight Howard sat at his locker with earbuds in. None of the players spoke before the game.

Back in the arena, Jeff Nadal was among the early arriving fans. Nadal rolled up a giveaway No. 24 T-shirt in his hand and rested his chin on it, staring into space.

“It doesn’t really feel like you’re here for a game,” the 26-year-old middle school teacher from Whittier said. “It feels like you’re here for something a lot bigger than that. We didn’t even know the guy, but we feel like we did.”

The music began playing once the public flowed through the doors. Several fans donned the gold T-shirts at their seats; others took pictures of the video board and the electronic ribbon scrolling the victims’ names around the upper level.

“We know it’s going to be a heavy-hearted night,” Vogel said. “It’s our job to manage our emotions and honor Kobe, Gianna and the other victims the right way.”

Across the street from Staples Center, large crowds continued to gather for informal public mourning at a plaza loaded with flowers, balloons and hand-written messages, many on the pavement, honoring Bryant and his daughter.

Large poster boards covered in signatures and messages were moved to the middle of the blocked off street separating the arena and the LA Live entertainment district.

The Lakers will wear a “KB” patch on their jerseys the rest of the season.

I will continue Kobe Bryant’s legacy – LeBron James ..

LeBron James says he is “heartbroken” over the death of Kobe Bryant and promises to continue his fellow basketball great’s legacy.
Bryant and his daughter Gianna were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
LA Lakers star James surpassed Bryant to become the NBA’s third-highest scorer of all time on Saturday, reports the BBC.

James also played alongside Bryant at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, helping the United States win two gold medals.
“Man, I sitting here trying to write something for this post but every time I try, I begin crying again just thinking about you, niece Gigi and the friendship/bond/brotherhood we had!” he posted on social media.

“I literally just heard your voice Sunday morning before I left Philly to head back to LA. Didn’t think for one bit in a million years that would be the last conversation we’d have.
“I’m heartbroken and devastated my brother.

“I promise you I’ll continue your legacy man! You mean so much to us all here. Please give me the strength from the heavens above and watch over me! I got US here! There’s so much more I want to say but just can’t right now because I can’t get through it! Until we meet again my brother!!”
Bryant finished his playing career as the Lakers’ all-time leading points scorer, and is fourth on the NBA’s all-time list with 33,643 points.

In his 1,566th and final game for the Lakers in April 2016 he scored 60 points for the sixth time.
Speaking after the LA Lakers’ 108-91 defeat by the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, which was the day before Bryant’s death, James said: “I’m happy just to be in any conversation with Kobe Bryant.
“One of the all-time greatest basketball players to ever play, one of the all-time greatest Lakers.”

Meanwhile, reports have it that the helicopter carrying former NBA star Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others is believed to have plummeted 500 feet in 15 seconds in heavy fog killing everyone on board.
Details of the doomed 39-minute flight from John Wayne Airport on Sunday morning, which had been ferrying the passengers to a basketball tournament 80 miles away, have now emerged.

Pilot Ara Zobayan had tried to turn the Sikorsky S-76 chopper moments before the impact, banking south west – with some suggestion he lost control of the aircraft as he attempted to clear unexpected cloud.
Audio between the pilot and air traffic controllers reveals he was given permission to fly under special visual flight rules or SVFR, despite the treacherous fog.
But he was forced to circle for a quarter of an hour while the air space was cleared by controllers.

Thick fog engulfed the flight path and conditions continued to worsen in the minutes after takeoff at 9.06am, with Zobayan then circling over Burbank from 9.20am.
Remaining in constant contact with air traffic control at Burbank Airport, the helicopter then asked the Van Nuys Tower if it could rotate southwest at 9.39am which was approved.

Zobayan had been given special permission to navigate the difficult conditions by sight without reliance on instruments, and after the maneouvre he confirmed he had regained flight visuals.
The helicopter then began to accent to 1,500 feet before dropping back down at 9.42am to allow the aircraft to show up on the correct frequency as per requests from air traffic controllers.

However, there was no response from the pilot and 40 seconds before the helicopter plummeted to the ground, the tower said: “You’re still too low for flight following at this time.”
Instead, Zobayan climbed to around 2,125 feet, potentially looking to rid himself of the poor weather, before crashing while traveling at 175mph.
Flight data indicates the chopper dropped at 425 feet in its final 15 seconds before crashing into a hillside in Calabasas at 9.45am.

Experienced helicopter pilot Phillipe Lesourd told The Sun it appears Zobayan had lost control when suddenly spotting low cloud and trying to turn at the last second.
He compared it to driving “on the freeway at a 115mph and close your eyes – what do you think is going to happen”.
Lesourd said choppers are “unstable” and pilots are navigating in 3D rather than straight lines like motorists, and it is “very, very easy to get into spatial disorientation”.
There would have been no other aircraft in the airspace as that had been cleared specifically for Bryant’s chopper to complete its journey without the risk of a midair collision.

And Lesourd said in the valley between the Santa Monica Mountains where it was flying before coming down, it would have struggled to fly above the fog by rising higher.
After climbing, tracking data shows the craft quickly jolted down to just 1,700 feet in what some experts say could have been an attempt to go under the fog – suggesting the pilot was unaware he was flying into a mountain range until too late.
