Police commissioner Paul Odama made the pledge when he paid a courtesy visit to the EFCC Zonal Command on Friday in Ilorin.

Mr Odama said that the collaboration was necessary to decisively deal with all economic saboteurs in the state.

The commissioner of police, who recently assumed duty, commended the bold steps being taken by the EFCC to curb illegal mining activities in Kwara.

“I was amazed when I saw some of the impounded trucks on my way to your office this morning, and I said to myself that EFCC is doing a wonderful job.

“We will collaborate with you in tackling the menace of illegal operators who are mining the mineral deposits in the state for personal enrichment.

“It is a criminal offence under the law, it is indeed, an act of economic sabotage,” Mr Odama said.

He said that the visit was to strengthen existing collaboration between the police and EFCC particularly in the area of fighting economic and financial crimes.

He said that the collaboration would enhance peace and security across the state.

According to him, the police and EFCC have come a long way in building good working relationships over the years.

“We are a family. I can assure you that we will provide you whatever you require operationally or in any other capacity to stamp out corruption which has stagnated the progress of our country, he added.

In his response, the EFCC Zonal Commander, Michael Nzekwe, appreciated the police commissioner for the visit and the police command’s support and contributions to EFCC’s operations.

Mr Nzekwe described the police as a pillar of support to the commission, adding that enhanced collaboration between the two organisations would help to curb economic and financial crimes.

“We appreciate the Nigeria Police for the support and contribution it has rendered to the EFCC in discharging its duties over the years.

“We are grateful and we look forward to more of the working relationship,” he said.

According to him, the commission recently arrested no fewer than 80 persons suspected of involvement in illegal mining activities.

Mr Nzekwu added that about 24 truck loads of assorted minerals were impounded by EFCC operatives in different locations in the state.

2023: Gov AbdulRazaq’s aide rea Saraki’s plan to retake power.

Advertisements

Special Adviser on Political Communications to the Kwara State Governor, Malam Bashir Adigun says the people of the State have resolved never to go back to Egypt under the servitude of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its tin ‘god’, Bukola Saraki.

Reacting to the former Senate President’s outburst on Kwara politics on Tuesday, in a statement in Ilorin, titled ‘2023: Bukola Saraki’s Delusion of Grandeur’, Adigun declared that the people of Kwara State would never return to political slavery of the Bukola Saraki-led dynasty, despite propaganda and deception by the former Senate President.

“We read the statement credited to him in one of the National Newspapers dreaming of his party’s return to Kwara State Government House in next year’s general elections.

“We sympathize with Saraki in his delusion and failure to realize that Kwarans now know the difference between perpetual political slavery of his era and exemplary benevolent leadership under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq where the future of their children and grandchildren is assured.

“It is a pity that a man who had a rare opportunity (on a platter of gold) to transform the State as a governor in eight years and revered leader of his party for 16 years frittered away the opportunities by resorting to pillaging the resources of the State would have the temerity to say his party will return to power,” he added.

“Do we need to remind the displaced leader of the dynasty that under his watch the infrastructure of the State collapsed?

“The people of Kwara will not forget how primary health care was destroyed because the State refused to pay its own counterpart funding with the National Primary HealthCare Development Agency.

“Under his watch, Primary and secondary schools were in ruins across the State, while teachers were owed for several months because the State government under the Peoples Democratic Party failed to fulfil its obligation to the Universal Basic Education Commission,” he added.

The Special Adviser further stated that Kwara civil servants became demoralized because their salaries were not regular and were paid in bits in what they called “Geri Gedii’.

Adigun said, “today, the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is paying N30,000 minimum wage unlike his predecessor who could not pay N18,000 minimum wage.

“Besides, retirees are now being paid their gratuities and pensions with ease unlike in the past,” adding that the administration is also building the necessary infrastructure to attract local and foreign investments.

According to him, “the people of Kwara now know the difference between a government that held their destiny in the pocket of one man revered by members of the Peoples Democratic Party as a tin god and a government that is ensuring that their children have a better tomorrow by going to good public schools, have access to quality health care delivery, have good roads and a better civil service with improved welfare of workers.”
