PSg wants to seriously sign Odion Ighalo

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly lining up a shock move for Manchester United’s on-loan star Odion Ighalo.

The 31-year-old striker has caught the eye during his loan spell at United from Shanghai Shenhua, scoring five times for the club.

The Nigerian signed a deal to stay at United until January but PSG are considering him as an option as they look to replace Edinson Cavani.

PSG Sporting Director Leonardo has drawn up a shortlist of possible targets and will even explore the possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo amid rumours Juventus are looking to get him off their wage bill.

However, French publication Foot Mercato claim that PSG have also made contact with Ighalo’s representatives about a possible transfer.

The French champions splashed out £52million to sign Mauro Icardi on a permanent basis earlier this summer but are looking for another attacking player to provide competition.

19-year-old Arnaud Kalimuendo has been integrated into the first-team squad ahead of next season but PSG want to bring in a more experienced and reliable player.

Ighalo fits that mould and would be a much cheaper option than some of PSG’s other targets.

Cavani, meanwhile, is still searching for a new club after seven-year spell at the club came to an end last month.

Newly-promoted Leeds were in the race to sign the 33-year-old Uruguayan but now face an uphill task to get a deal over the line with Bayern Munich and Benfica the current favourites to land his signature.

‘You can’t ask for much more from Ighalo’

Odion Ighalo has done “pretty well” in his first three months on Manchester United’s books, according to Andy Cole, who thinks the striker has “applied himself” admirably at Old Trafford.

“I am really pleased with him,” the ex-United frontman said during a video call with Ighalo broadcast on MUTV.

“When you come to a club like Manchester United as a centre-forward, everyone expects you to score straight away, but it takes a little bit of time.

“And like Odion said himself, he wasn’t fit and was just coming in from pre-season in China.

“I think he has done pretty well when he has been given the opportunity, he has applied himself really well in the club and has scored four good goals, four centre-forward goals, you can’t ask for much more.”

Ighalo described Cole as one of his “heroes” growing up, while opening up on how he studied the former England international’s movements in the final third when he played up top with Dwight Yorke at the Theatre of Dreams.

“I had a lot of football heroes. When I started supporting Man Utd, Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole were my heroes,” he said. “It is a great privilege for me to play at Man Utd, where great players like Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole have played.

“They were great strikers and scored a lot of goals. So I would watch their movements, the way they played, the way they created space for themselves, watching the way they met crosses behind defenders.

“I learned all of that and it has helped me a lot in my football career.”

Ighalo Relax Over Manchester United Future

Manchester United forward Odion Ighalo has reiterated that he is giving little thought to his long-term future.

While the Nigeria international is currently on loan from Shanghai Shenhua , speculation persists regarding a permanent switch to Old Trafford.

However, despite acknowledging that it is an option, Ighalo does not want to make any decisions until a date is set for the end of the season.

Speaking to journalist Juliet Bauwah, Ighalo said: “I’m on loan until the end of the season, which has not expired. Now it’s for us to finish the season very well, I do well, score more goals, if possible, then after the season we’ll see what’s on the table.

“But, for now, the season is still on. Even for me, as a person, you can’t start talking about the contract when you don’t know when the season is going to resume. So there’s no need to talk about that, it’s just finish the season and then see how it goes.”

Since his January arrival, Ighalo has netted four times from eight appearances in all competitions.

Ighalo, fit to play at Barcelona, Real Madrid – Sule

Abdul Sule believes Odion Ighalo could earn a ‘big money move’ in Europe after his Manchester United stint, although the player is reportedly being offered an improved deal to return to Shanghai Shenhua.

Ighalo has joined the English outfit on a temporary deal on the final day of the January transfer window to beef up the attack until the end of the season, a contract which expires on May 31.

The 30-year-old striker, who was a boyhood fan of Machester United, has made an impressive start to life at Old Trafford, scoring four times in eight appearances.

“I see Odion Ighalo earning a big-money move from top European teams when his loan expires at Manchester United,” Sule to Goal.

“I don’t think Man United are keen on retaining him because they seem not to value him enough to put hand him a regular place. He also may not be wanted again when Marcus Rashford is fit.

“I will not advise him to return to China now despite the attractive offer but would urge him to stay in Europe. I won’t be surprised if Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid or Barcelona come for him.

“He has proven that he’s got a lot to offer at the highest level within his short stay at Man United and he can attract big brands and earn more money, playing in any of the top teams in England.

“He can always still return to China later in his career but right now, I think he has what it takes to shine in Europe.”

Shanghai Shenhua in war with United after news of permanent signing.

offers him huge sum

Shanghai Shenhua of China have offered Nigeria International Odion Ighalo a whopping £400,000 (N180million)per week contract to stay with them, a huge blow to Manchester United who this week offered the Nigerian a new deal to remain at the club.

Ighalo was signed by Manchester United in January on loan from Shanghai Shenhua as a back up for injured Marcus Rashford but has surpassed expectations with his performances and goals for the club.

Ighalo was already making £300,000-a-week contract in China before joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side but took a 40 percent pay-cut to seal his switch to United.

Manchester United added £8,000 per goal bonuses to sign him up in January and were already planning to give him a new permanent deal to ward off suitors. But with the offer coming from China, Manchester United’s plans of signing him could now be in limbo as they have no plans of even matching up to half of that offer.

It seems with Shanghai Shenhua’s new offer, Ighalo might have a tough decision to make, – that is choosing between staying with United – his childhood dream club or massively increase his bank account by playing for Shanghai Shenhua in China.

Manchester United keen to splash £15m on Odion Ighalo.

Manchester United are reportedly set to turn Odion Ighalo’s loan move into a permanent deal this summer.

Shanghai Shenhua, who are prepared to sell Ighalo, have put a £15m valuation on the player and United are set to match the asking price of the Chinese Super League club for the striker who will be 31 in June.

The Red Devils currently pay Ighalo £130,000 weekly.

The striker has scored four goals in eight appearances since his arrival from Shanghai Shenhua in January but has had his hot-streak curtailed due to the suspension imposed on football as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Daily Mail claims that Ighalo’s switch from the Chinese Super League was due to end on May 31 but United are poised to negotiate an extension with Shenhua if the Premier League campaign continues into June.

Meanwhile, Ighalo’s brace against Derby County in the English Emirates Cup and his stunning strike in Manchester United’s win over LASK in the Europa League first-leg quarter-final have been nominated for Goal-of-the-Month award.

Ten goals were shortlisted for the award, according to a report on the club’s official website.

Ighalo faces competition from Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay, Charlie McCann, Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and James Garner for the award.

The winner will be announced on Saturday

Ighalo earn N39m bonuses after 8 appearance at United.

Nigeria international, Odion Ighalo, has been rewarded with a hefty bonus of £92,000 (approximately N39m), excluding his weekly £120,000 wages after making just eight appearances for Manchester United.

Since joining the Red Devils on loan from Shanghai Shenhua in the January transfer window, the 30-year-old has been a revelation, scoring four goals in eight matches.

To make up for the pay-cut, United inserted some incentives in his deal, which includes an £8,000 per-goal reward, £9,000 for every Premier League win and £3,000 for a draw.

With four goals already scored, Ighalo has bagged £32,000 goal bonus.

The ex-Watford forward also gets £9,000 for every Premier League win and Ighalo has helped the Red Devils to six victories and two draws, which sums up to £60,000.

SunSport revealed that Ighalo will also get a hefty lump of cash for helping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side into the Champions League.

An Old Trafford source said, “He earns his basic pay but also gets bits added on top of that to keep him ticking over.

“That includes a win and draw bonus, goals and things like winning trophies and getting into the Champions League.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are currently fifth in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who occupy the final UCL spot.

Ighalo and his teammates have not played since their 2-0 victory over rivals Manchester City on March 8 due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the Premier League hopes to resume games in May and complete the season.

Breaking: Manchester United to pay N6.7bn for Ighalo.

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted that Odion Ighalo might be set for an extended stay at Old Trafford, but it will cost the club a fortune should the club decides to exercise the option of signing him permanently.

Ighalo joined United from Shanghai Shenhua on a temporary deal that was supposed to keep him at Old Trafford just for this campaign.

Although there was no option to buy in the deal, Ighalo’s performances for United had convinced Solskjaer to consider offering him an extended stay at the club.

However, according to the Mirror, Shanghai Shenhua will demand almost £15m for the 30-year-old despite paying just £5.72m for his services when they signed him from Changchun Yatai.

Ighalo is valued at just £5.9m, but Shanghai planned to capitalise on Ighalo’s success at Old Trafford to charge United almost triple of his value. The former Super Eagles star had scored four goals in just three starts for Manchester United since he joined on the last day of January. He opened his account in the Europa League win over Club Brugge before scoring a brace in the FA Cup win over Derby. His latest goal came in the last 16 Europa League win over LASK on Thursday.

Odion Ighalo break Lukaku’s record in United.

after yesterday’s effort

The ex-Nigeria international has been in sizzling form in front of goal and continues to raise the bar for dependability following his latest effort

Odion Ighalo has now scored in all his three starts for Manchester United, having found the net in Thursday’s 5-0 victory over LASK in the Europa League.

The Nigerian was handed a starter’s role in the Red Devil’s Last 16 first leg fixture against the Austrians inside Linzer Stadium.
And he justified Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision by putting the English team ahead in the 28th minute.

Bruno Fernandes picked out Ighalo on the edge of the box, with the ex-Watford man juggling the ball to set himself up, before a fierce left-footed strike was unstoppable for goalkeeper Alexander Schlager.

That effort means the 30-year-old has found the net whenever he makes United’s starting XI. Romelu Lukaku was the last player to achieve that feat for the Manchester-based outfit.

In the 58th minute, Ighalo assisted Daniel James for his side’s second goal, while Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereira completed the rout.

Thanks to this win, Manchester United take a five-goal advantage into the second leg billed for Old Trafford on March 19.

0-3: Ighalo double lead as United trash Derby in F.A

Luke Shaw gets the 1st goal in the 33rd minute of the game.

Odion Ighalo ruined Wayne Rooney’s hopes of leading Derby to an FA Cup upset against Manchester United as the Nigeria striker’s double sealed a 0-3 win in the fifth round on Thursday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were always in control at Pride Park and Luke Shaw opened the scoring before Ighalo took over to dash Rooney’s bid to knock out his former club.

United will travel to Premier League strugglers Norwich in their sixth successive quarter-final appearance in a competition they have won 12 times.

Ighalo has only been at United for a few weeks after arriving from China, but his second and third goals for the club stole the spotlight from Old Trafford icon Rooney.

Rooney left United in 2017 after 13 glittering years including five Premier League titles, Champions League glory and a club record 253 goals.

The 34-year-old had spells at Everton and DC United before joining second-tier Derby in a player-coach role alongside boss Phillip Cocu in January.

It was the first time Rooney had faced United since playing for Everton in January 2018 and he remains without a goal in seven appearances against them.

Eighteen years after he burst onto the scene as a teenager with a brilliant goal for Everton against Arsenal, Rooney remains one of English football’s most fascinating figures and he was the centre of attention as fans from both teams chanted his name before kick-off.

But, no longer the effervescent menace who terrorised defenders with his power and poise, Rooney is playing in a deep-lying role these days and he couldn’t quite roll back the years in the face of a composed United display.

It was a Derby player 16 years younger than Rooney who almost gave the hosts a shock lead when Louis Sibley fired just wide from long-range.

Rooney went even closer with a curling free-kick that forced Sergio Romeo to make a sprawling save at his near post.

There are six changes for United as Romero started in goal for David De Gea after his howler in the draw at Everton last weekend, while Harry Maguire was ruled out with an ankle injury.

Bruno Fernandes, the new idol for United fans, was in the team and the Portugal midfielder was starting to pull the strings.

United looked more dangerous once Fernandes heated up and Derby keeper Kelle Roos made a superb save to repel Ighalo’s shot from just six yards.

United’s pressure paid off with a fortunate opener in the 33rd minute.

Fernandes’ shot was deflected high into the air and Shaw met it with a half-volley from the edge of the area, the ball taking a wicked bounce off Jesse Lingard and looping over Roos into the net.

Shaw turned provider as United doubled their lead eight minutes later.

Advancing with intent towards the Derby area, the left-back squeezed a pass into Ighalo, who turned away from two defenders before poking his shot past Roos from six yards.

Rooney was unable to stem the tide and his response was a frustrated foul on Scott McTominay that earned him a booking.

Choosing a more palatable approach to leading the Derby fightback early in the second half, Rooney unfurled a sumptuous pass to Jayden Bogle, whose cross was headed just wide by Martyn Waghorn.

Ighalo ended any hopes of a Rooney-inspired revival in the 70th minute.

Juan Mata picked out Ighalo in the area and when the 30-year-old’s initial shot was blocked, he kept his composure to guide the rebound into the net.

In what would have been an emotional finale for Rooney, his free-kick almost crept in until Romero made a brilliant tip-over.

Ighalo will prove to you what I think he will – Solskjaer

The formed Nigeria international could make his debut on Monday (today) against Chelsea.

Ahead of his first minutes for United, Solskjaer has given Ighalo further motivation to hit the ground running with a long-term future at Old Trafford potentially up for grabs.

“It’s a loan, but when you’re in the door and if you impress it gives you a chance,” Solskjaer at his pre-match press conference on Sunday.

“That’s exactly the same for everyone who signs if it’s permanent or it’s a loan. If you impress as a player, if you impress as a person, if you can help this group improve, then of course there’s a chance that we’ll look at extending things.

“That doesn’t just go for Odion, but since you asked, yes, of course his incentive is to play as well as he can. And it’s up to us to make sure that he’d want to stay if we wanted him.

“I think he’s probably pinching himself at times, because he’s now at his favourite club at the age of 30.

“Hopefully he’ll prove to you what I think he will. He’s a proven goalscorer, so he’ll do all right.”

Man United Reveals Ighalo’s Squad Number

Manchester United loan signing Odion Ighalo has been assigned the number 25 shirt following his short-term arrival from Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the season.

The Ighalo deal was concluded late on transfer deadline day and will give United a boost up front while Marcus Rashford is recovering from injury. The club is expected to pay around a third of his £300,000 weekly wages while he is in Manchester.

The number 25 shirt was last worn at United by former club captain Antonio Valencia, who vacated the jersey when he was released at the end of last season after 10 years of service.

Ighalo has worn number nine for Chinese Super League clubs Changchun Yatai and Shanghai Shenhua since leaving Premier League club Watford in 2017. He previously wore 24 for the Hornets and has even used the 25 shirt in the past during one season of his stint at Granada.

The 30-year-old Nigerian, who grew up watching United, has been a prolific goalscorer in China, scoring 46 league goals in three seasons to date – including 21 in 2018 alone.

At Watford, he scored 20 goals in the Championship in 2014/15 en-route to promotion, followed by 16 in his debut year in the Premier League. He never found the net against United, although did register an assist in a 2-1 Watford defeat at Vicarage Road in November 2015.

“It’s a dream come true because since I was a kid I followed and dreamt of Manchester United. But it is a reality now. I cannot say much more now until I get started,” Ighalo said of the move.

“It’s been crazy. Obviously, I am happy to be in Manchester first of all. This is a great opportunity for me and I am grateful to God, and to my agent, and the coach who has given me this opportunity to be here. I am happy to be here and to work out with the team and finish very well this season.”

Manchester United Confirms Ighalo On Loan

Manchester United have completed a loan move for Chinese Super League striker Odion Ighalo – with the player joining until the end of the current season.

The Nigeria international left Watford in 2017 for Changchun Yatai in 2017 before joining Shanghai Shenhua, with whom he won the Chinese FA Cup this year.

United have been on the hunt for a striker to help deal with their current injury crisis, with Marcus Rashford ruled out for the foreseeable future with a back problem, and the club confirmed the deal at one minute past midnight – 61 minutes past the deadline.

Though people are talking about this
Names like Islam Slimani, Josh King, Salomon Rondon and Edinson Cavani were all banded around as potential targets, before it was reported on Friday evening that personal terms and a salary had been agreed.

United will not have an automatic option to buy Ighalo at the end of his loan spell, should the 30-year-old impress at Old Trafford.

The former Udinese forward impressed at Vicarage Road during the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons, scoring 35 league goals across the two campaigns.

He would struggle in 2016/17, however, eventually sealing a move to Changchun Yatai, scoring a hatful before switching the Jilin Province for Shanghai.

He will provide added striking options for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has utilised Anthony Martial up front for the most of the season with Rashford covering when the Frenchman was struck down with injury.
