Shehu Sani name not on bank transaction record – EFCC witnesses


The trial of former Nigerian lawmaker, Shehu Sani, which commenced on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja has been adjourned until Wednesday because witnesses presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said Sani’s Name was not on the transaction record of Guaranty Trust Bank.

After cross-examining the witnesses, Justice Ekwo offered Sani’s lawyers to do same.


When they asked each of the witnesses if Sani was the name they saw on the transactions presented before the judge, they declined, saying they didn’t know him.

The names were those of persons not identical or identified in court.

Sani, a vocal critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, is being tried for allegedly extorting $20,000 from Sani Dauda, owner of ASD Motors.

Operation Amotekun: Gani Adams propose Ammo use for Group


The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has called for the possession of firearms for Amotekun security outfit.

Adams made the call on Monday during the public hearing of the state security network agency bill 2020 in Oyo State.


Represented by Gboyega Adejumo, Adams said that the use of guns will be ineffective for their operations, adding that hoodlums and criminal-minded persons may attack operatives once it was observed that they had no arms.

Also, Oyelowo Oyewo, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, who spoke during the event, said one of the objectives of Amotekun was to share intelligence about crime, suspicious activities and other criminal activities.

He said, “It is also meant to protect lives and property within the state and ensure that people travelling on highways, major roads, remote areas, hinterland, forest and inland waterways carry out their normal socio-economic activities without fear or hindrance.”

Operation Amotekun: Miyetti Allah wants to join Leopard

tells Oyo govt to enlist members


Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has told the Oyo State Government to include its members in the Amotekun security network.

A former chairman of the association, Yaqub Bello, said this during a public hearing of the state security network agency bill 2020 in Oyo State.


He said, “Some of us have been in Oyo State for over 40 years, cohabiting with the natives, married Yoruba women and have children.

“So, our request is to include Miyetti Allah as members of Operation Amotekun to enhance the job of the outfit, since we know the terrain of where we rear our cattle.

“Having Fulani among the outfit will make it easier for Amotekun officials to distinguish between genuine herdsmen and criminals while on patrol. A Fulani man can also serve as an interpreter while interrogating any suspected herdsman.”

Operation Amotekun is an idea of governors of the six South-West states to combat insecurity in the region.

In a disturbing twist that goes against everything we learned in sex education, a recent New York Times Q&A confirmed that it’s actually possible for a woman to get pregnant… while she’s already pregnant.

As far-fetched as that sounds, the science on this one actually lines up. In a creepy quirk of the human body, under very exceptional circumstances, a woman can continue to ovulate while pregnant and can conceive another child – something known as ‘superfetation’.

That means a woman can have two foetuses developing inside her at the same time, both at different stages of development. And we sort of wish we could immediately scrub that knowledge from our brains.

Before you panic, this is highly unlikely to happen to you or anyone you know. In fact, according to a paper published in 2008 in the European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology it’s only happened 10 times in the scientific literature… ever.

Many claims of double pregnancies over the years that have gone on to be debunked, but, according to the researchers, at least 10 of those seem to be the real, evidence-backed deal.

And since that paper came out, there have been a few other cases reported.

In 2009, a couple from Arkansas became pregnant after already conceiving two and a half weeks earlier. Both babies were delivered healthily by c-section on 2 December, with one baby measurably a fortnight more premature than the other.

And in 2015, an Australian couple gave birth to two girls that were 10 days apart in age at birth.

So, how is this even possible? Superfetation is actually quite common in mammals outside of humans, and has been seen in species including rodents, rabbits, horse, sheep, and kangaroos.

Sometimes these mammals have two uteri to facilitate the double pregnancy, or sometimes their menstrual cycle simply continues during pregnancy. It’s even considered a handy reproductive strategy in some species.

But, in humans, superfetation appears to be a very rare accident – that’s because, as soon as a woman becomes pregnant, her body actively blocks a second pregnancy from happening.

“Ordinarily, the release of eggs ceases once a woman is pregnant, and the hormonal and physical changes of pregnancy work together to prevent another conception,” C. Clairborne Ray explained in a New York Times’ science Q&A this week.

But for some reason, in superfetation, a pregnant women still manages to ovulate. A male’s sperm then manages to fertilise that egg, somehow bypassing the the mucus plug that blocks up a woman’s cervix once she’s conceived.

Finally, implantation has to occur – which is an incredibly delicate process even in ordinary pregnancies. And when a woman is already pregnant, her hormones should make the uterus an unfavourable environment for another fertilised egg to implant (not to mention that there wouldn’t be much room).

“In order for superfetation to occur in humans … it would appear that three seemingly impossible things need to happen,” Khalil A. Cassimally reported for Scientific American back in 2011.

“Ovulation must take place during an ongoing pregnancy, semen must somehow find its way through the blocked cervix to the oviduct, via the occupied uterus and finally, the conceptus has to successfully implant itself in an unsuspecting already-occupied uterus.”

Unlike twins – which occur either when a fertilised egg splits into two, or when two eggs are fertilised by two sperm at the same time – superfetation leads to a woman being pregnant with an additional foetus that’s younger than the existing pregnancy.

So far, no cases have been reported of the age gap being greater than a few weeks.

According to the 2008 paper in the European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, whenever superfetation was confirmed to occur, the two foetuses had a separate amniotic sac. And they differed in size throughout the pregnancy and after birth.

Given the small sample size scientists have to work with, it’s not yet clear why superfetation sometimes occurs, and whether whether there are any risk factors that can increase the odds of the phenomenon.

But Casimally notes that reports of superfetation are more common in women who’ve undergone fertility treatments, which could explain how one or two of those checkpoints get passed.

Despite how rare superfetation is, however, surprisingly, most babies conceived through the strange accident end up surviving.

The main risk is the fact that the babies are still born at the same time, despite their age difference – so one of the babies has the additional challenge of being born premature.

Atiku call for SARS reform

Real madrid unsure if Hazard need surgery


Real Madrid are meeting with numerous medical professionals for advice on how to proceed with winger Eden Hazard’s latest injury,

The Belgian missed 83 days of action after fracturing his right fibula, but he managed just two games before aggravating the injury, and it has now been suggested that his season could be over after suffering the same issue again.

As noted by Marca, Real are eager to ensure that Hazard does not suffer another relapse when he eventually returns, so they are regularly speaking with doctors to determine whether or not to operate on the winger.

One of those who will be asked for advice is Dr James Calder, who operated on Hazard when he suffered a similar injury during his time with Chelsea back in 2017.

At the moment, it is believed that the option to send Hazard for surgery is winning. Specialists have suggested that Hazard’s fibula needs to be examined directly to determine whether there is something wrong with it, given this is his third injury in three years.

Several meetings will be held this week, with Hazard invited to attend and give his opinion, and Real are eager to make a decision which will benefit everyone in the long run.

Pogba admit Liverpool deserves EPL title


Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has confessed that Liverpool deserve every bit of their success this season as they are simply far too good for the rest of the Premier League.

The Reds currently sit 22 points clear at the top of the league table and are now just 12 points away from lifting the title thanks to Monday’s 3-2 win over West Ham United, while United find themselves a whopping 38 points behind in fifth.


Jürgen Klopp’s side have received plenty of praise this year, and Pogba told ESPN that they deserve every bit of that, even if it hurts him as a United player.

“They are so way ahead of everyone else,” he confessed. “They have not lost a single game yet this season in the league. They already have one hand on the Premier League trophy.

“As a Manchester United player and with the rivalry between us, we don’t want them to win the title. We don’t want anyone else to win apart from us, but as a football lover and a respectful player to opposition team, I have to say that they deserve to be where they are today.

“They have been even better than last season when they won the Champions League and the season before when they [lost the final to Real Madrid].”


The rivalry between Liverpool and United goes way back, but the Red Devils always had the edge in the Premier League era. However, while United still have more league titles in the trophy cabinet, the power has certainly shifted over to Merseyside in recent years.

Things have been good for Liverpool this year, but the same cannot be said for Pogba, who has been plagued by an ankle injury all year.

He has managed just eight appearances in all competitions, with his only two assists coming in the first game of the season against Chelsea, and it is currently unknown when he will be ready to make his return to action.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently revealed that Pogba is ‘nowhere near’ being ready to return to training, with the Frenchman seemingly still struggling after undergoing surgery.

COVID-19: How did S’korea eradicate coronavirus hastily?


Buses and subways in Seoul, the normally crowded South Korean capital, were unusually quiet on Monday, and social media was filled with posts with the hashtag “work from home.” South Koreans work some of the longest hours in the world, and companies tend to frown on allowing employees to telecommute.
This drastic departure from the conventions of corporate culture are a sign of how the country is scrambling to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, reports time.com.
The country’s public health authorities have for the past several days reported drastic increases in the number of cases here, with 231 new cases on Monday, bringing the total number to 833, with more than 11,600 people undergoing diagnostic testing. Seven South Koreans infected with the virus, called COVID-19, have died. The country of 51 million people now has the highest number of coronavirus cases outside mainland China.
At a briefing Monday afternoon, Jung Eun-kyeong, chief of South Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, called on South Koreans to limit any outdoor activities and refrain from inter-city travel.
She and other South Korean officials are remaining outwardly calm, but there is a growing sense of fear that, with each of the past several days bringing a sharp increase in the number of cases, the outbreak of COVID-19 may be reaching epidemic levels, with the government having missed the opportunity to contain it.
While most cases in South Korea are concentrated in the southeastern city of Daegu, 150 miles from the capital Seoul, Sunday also brought the troubling news that cases have also been reported in Gwangju, a city in the southwest, and the island of Jeju off the south coast, raising fears of a broader spread of the virus.
On the streets of South Korean cities, the scent of disinfectant hangs in the air, as crews circulated—spraying chemicals meant to kill pathogens. Nearly all stairwells, subway stations and coffee shops now make hand sanitizer available at entrances. The few people plying the subway are nearly all clad in masks and moving with a sense of jittery urgency.
At the center of the outbreak is Shincheonji Church of Jesus, an eccentric religious group based in Daegu. More than half of South Korea’s coronavirus cases are linked to Shincheonji members, and more 9,000 members are in quarantine, the government has said.
After remaining mostly silent since the outbreak, Shincheonji posted a video response to its website on Sunday. In the video, a man identified as Kim Shi-mon said the church is doing everything possible to limit the spread of the virus, including suspending operations at its churches. He asked that individuals and media outlets refrain from disseminating false or unconfirmed information on the church.
“We, along with other Koreans, are victims of this outbreak,” Kim said.
In the aftermath of the outbreak, Shincheonji came under intense scrutiny, as a woman that South Korean media are now calling a “super spreader” reportedly refused to be tested for COVID-19, despite having shown symptoms. The church has been a subject of lurid fascination in South Korea since at least 2007, when a major broadcaster ran a documentary on the group and its practices, including claims by Shincheonji’s leader, Lee Man-hee, to be immortal.
The combination of the group’s opacity and custom of gathering for crowded, enthusiastic worship services, could make containing the virus more difficult, experts have said.
“Shincheonji members hide who they are so that their friends and even their family members do not know they belong to the church. Now the government is unable to contact hundreds of Shincheonji members who attended the Daegu church,” said Ji-il Tark, a professor of theology at Busan Presbyterian University.
“It might be painful and difficult to disclose they are Shincheonji members because that means they lied to their loved ones so that there is a possibility they could stay in danger of infection, which is the most scary scenario,” Ji told TIME.
The teachings of Shincheonji may also make members less likely to exercise caution in seeking to prevent the spread of the virus. “The group is quite secretive and deceptive. They certainly believe their leader is immortal and they’re pretty much promised eternal life,” said Peter Daley, an English instructor at a university in Seoul and tracker of unconventional religious sects.
As the outbreak worsens, a growing chorus of critics have decried the South Korean government’s handling of the virus, accusing the administration of President Moon Jae-in of not recognizing the danger posed by the coronavirus.
“The coronavirus situation spun out of control as the president was mired in optimism, saying that the outbreak wouldn’t last long,” the right-wing Chosun Ilbo newspaper wrote in an editorial, adding, “If we can’t block the virus, the whole country will be in danger.”
Kim Seung-dong, an opposition politician in Daegu, held a public protest on Friday, brandishing a sign that read, with some hyperbole, “Everyone in Daegu is dying of the ‘Moon Jae-in Virus.’”
“This administration must be held accountable for failing to respond early to the coronavirus,” Kim wrote on his Facebook page.
Much of that criticism has honed in on the government’s decision to not ban all Chinese nationals from entering South Korea. A petition to do just that on the website of the presidential office currently has more than 760,000 signatures. It calls on the South Korean government to follow the example of North Korea and seal off its borders.
China is South Korea’s largest trading partner, and some critics have accused Moon of failing to protect public health due to fears that a comprehensive entry ban would displease the Chinese government. By contrast, Taiwan has banned nearly all travelers from mainland China, while Hong Kong has suspended most border crossings with the mainland.
On Sunday, Moon raised South Korea’s public alert to its highest level, and urged public officials to take the strongest measures to contain the outbreak.
A major reason for the rapid surge in confirmed coronavirus cases is the relative openness and transparency of South Korean society. “The number of cases in South Korea seems high at least in part because the country has high diagnostic capability, a free press and a democratically accountable system. Very few countries in the region have all those,” said Andray Abrahamian, a visiting scholar at George Mason University Korea.
On Saturday, the State Department raised its travel advisory for South Korea to Level 2, recommending U.S. nationals “exercise increased caution” in the country, by avoiding contact with sick people and frequently sanitizing their hands. In late January, the State Department raised its advisory for China to the highest level, “Do not travel.”

Those already in affected areas of South Korea have little choice but to adapt. Jung Tae-min, a resident of Daegu, had the start of his first year of university delayed due to concerns over the virus, and his orientation day was cancelled. “My friends and family are talking about the virus constantly, and not a lot of people on the streets in general,” Jung tells TIME.
“Everyone who is outside is wearing a mask, stores are limiting their sales of masks, or they’re out of stock, and some large department stores are closed but everything else is pretty much normal.”

COVID-19: China stops consumption of wild animals


China’s top legislature said it will immediately ban the trade and consumption of wild animals, in a fast-track decision it says will allow the country to win the battle against the coronavirus outbreak.
The announcement, made late on Monday according to the official Xinhua News Agency, comes after an initial suspension of the trade and consumption of wildlife in January.


Scientists suspect, but have not proven, that the new coronavirus passed to humans from animals. The disease has now killed almost 2,700 people in China and spread to countries around the globe.
Some of the earliest infections were found in people who had exposure to a wildlife market in Hubei’s provincial capital Wuhan, where bats, snakes, civets and other animals were sold.


“There has been a growing concern among people over the consumption of wild animals and the hidden dangers it brings to public health security since the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak,” said Zhang Tiewei, a spokesman for the top legislature’s Legislative Affairs Commission.
Zhang said it was both urgent and necessary for the decision to be made at the “critical moment for the epidemic prevention and control”.
The decision, made by the National People’s Congress, stipulates the illegal consumption and trade of wildlife will be “severely punished” as will be hunting, trading or transporting wild animals for the purpose of consumption.


The use of wild animals for non-edible purposes, including scientific research, medical use and display, will be subject to strict examination, approval and quarantine inspection.
Prior to the announcement, traders legally selling donkey, dog, deer, crocodile and other meat told Reuters they planned to get back to business as soon as the markets reopen.


Many academics, environmentalists and residents in China have joined international conservation groups in calling for a permanent ban. Online debate within China has also heavily favored a permanent ban.
Meanwhile, At least 229 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Italy so far, according to the latest official data released Monday night.


A 62-year-old man with pre-existing health conditions died, bringing the death toll in Italy to seven, Civil Protection Department chief and Extraordinary Commissioner for the Coronavirus Emergency Angelo Borrelli told a televised press conference.
“I can confirm two identified coronavirus hotbeds in the Lombardy and Veneto regions,” Borrelli specified.


He added there was no proof of a possible link between infections in the areas surrounding Lombardy and those in the Padua areas in Veneto, since “regional health authorities in charge did not provide us with any confirmation.”
Italy has seen the epidemic flare up since Friday in the Lombardy region and then spread across other regions in some northern and central areas.


The total count included 167 cases of infection in Lombardy, 27 in Veneto, 18 in Emilia Romagna, four in Piedmont and three in the central Lazio region, according to Borrelli, also coordinator for the country’s coronavirus emergency response.
“Among these, we register 99 people hospitalized with symptoms, 23 of which are in intensive care, and 91 people are put under house confinement without symptoms, who do not require specific care,” Borrelli added.


Several towns in northern Italy remained in lockdown on Monday, after the government issued a decree imposing total isolation of the communities where “there is at least one positive case.”
The government’s measures also included “a ban on anyone entering or leaving the affected areas, the suspension of events and meetings of any kind in public or private places and the suspension of educational services and trips,” according to Borrelli.

The decree also urged the shutdown of museums, businesses, shops and public offices, and limited access to or suspension of transportation services for goods and people in the areas involved.
The Italian Ministry of Health announced Monday on Twitter that a medical team from the European Center for Disease Control will be dispatched to Italy to support the authorities and health staff “in their efforts to limit the local transmission” of the coronavirus.

Riot continue in Delhi, death toll raises


India’s capital has seen a third day of violence as the death toll from Monday’s clashes went up to at least seven, including a policeman, police told Al Jazeera.
Some 90 people have been injured in clashes in the northeast of Delhi over a new citizenship law, a senior hospital official told Reuters on Tuesday.
“Some of the people brought in had gunshot wounds,” Dr Rajesh Kalra, additional medical superintendent at the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, said of Monday’s violence.


Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, appealed to residents to maintain peace after an urgent meeting of his newly elected legislators in the capital, reports al-Jazeera.

The clashes erupted on Sunday after supporters of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), passed by Parliament last December, attacked anti-government protest sites. The CAA, dubbed “anti-Muslim”, has triggered nationwide protests, especially by Muslims.


The violence started a day after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kapil Mishra warned anti-CAA protesters to end their peaceful sit-ins in the northeastern Jafrabad and Maujpur areas of the Indian capital.
On Monday, police used tear gas and smoke grenades but struggled to disperse the stone-throwing crowds.


A tyre market was set on fire later on Monday, the Press Trust of India said. A video posted on social media showed crowds of men shouting “Jai Shree Ram” or “Hail Lord Ram”, a revered Hindu deity, as they went on a rampage, according to the AFP.
Several vehicles and a fire truck were torched in Jafrabad and Maujpur as police imposed prohibitory orders to prevent further violence.


“Hundreds of women have been peacefully protesting against the CAA since Saturday night near the Jafrabad Metro station. But on Sunday, after Mishra led the rally, his supporters pelted us with stones leading to clashes,” Zohran, a Jafrabad resident, told Al Jazeera.
“The BJP leaders are trying to give the protests a Hindu-Muslim colour. They incite people in the name of religion, which is very unfortunate.”


‘Additional police officers deployed’
Anil Mittal, additional public relations officer of Delhi Police, said on Tuesday additional police officers had been deployed in the northeast district of Delhi.
One police constable was among those killed in the violence that erupted just ahead of US President Donald Trump’s maiden visit to the capital city.


Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are set to meet for talks on Tuesday at a venue located a few miles away from where the clashes occurred.
Tension in parts of the city remained high on Tuesday with schools remaining shut in some areas, amid news reports of fresh clashes. At least five metro stations in the city were closed.


Monday’s clashes were among the worst seen in Delhi since the protests against the CAA began in early December.
India’s capital has been a hotbed of protests against the law, which eases the path of non-Muslims from three neighbouring Muslim-majority countries to gain Indian citizenship.

This has led to accusations that Modi and his Hindu nationalist BJP are undermining India’s secular ethos.
The BJP denies any bias against India’s more than 180 million-strong Muslim minority, but objectors have been holding protests and camping out in parts of New Delhi for two months.

Update: Deontay Wilder Get 6 Weeks Suspension After Defeat From Fury


Deontay Wilder has been handed a six-week medical suspension following his defeat by Tyson Fury.
The American was dropped twice by his challenger last Saturday before the fight was stopped in the seventh round when his corner threw in the towel.


Wilder was suspected to have burst his eardrum and was set to be taken to hospital but he ultimately needed just seven stitches for a cut in his ear.
And the Nevada State Athletic Commission have now said Wilder cannot spar until April 8 and cannot fight in the state until April 23.


That will not prevent him triggering the rematch clause in his contract for third fight with Fury, NobleSport gathered
The loser of last weekend’s bout had 30 days to do so and Wilder confirmed on Monday that he will seek his revenge.


“The rematch is definitely going to happen. We’re going to get it on. I want to get right back to it,” he said.
The trilogy fight was was due to take place on July 18 in Las Vegas but Fury’s promoter Bob Arum has said it could be pushed back until September or October and be held at the new Las Vegas Raiders’ stadium.


That could see a potential undisputed fight with Anthony Joshua delayed until 2021 after promoter Eddie Hearn said he wanted to make that fight this year.
Joshua is due to face mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20.


Wilder, meanwhile, has blamed his 40lb ring walk costume for weakening his legs before losing to Fury.
He told Yahoo: “He didn’t hurt me at all, but the simple fact is that my uniform was way too heavy for me.
“I didn’t have no legs from the beginning of the fight. In the third round, my legs were just shot all the way through.

“But I’m a warrior and people know that I’m a warrior. It could easily be told that I didn’t have legs or anything.
“A lot of people were telling me, ‘It looked like something was wrong with you.’ Something was, but when you’re in the ring, you have to bluff a lot of things.”
