After years of expressing interest in wanting a match with CM Punk, former WWE/current NJPW star KENTA has once again called his shot to make it happen.
It all goes back to them using the same finisher as Punk started using the GTS, Go To Sleep, as a finishing maneuver in WWE, which is a move that was popularized by KENTA in Japan. Punk has publicly credited KENTA for the idea of the finisher after he made the transition from having the Anaconda Vice as his finisher.
On Wednesday’s Dynamite, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed the first-ever jointly held pay-per-view event between AEW and NJPW titled, AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door, will take place on June 26 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
KENTA took to Twitter to call out CM Punk for a match at the upcoming event by writing, “GIVE ME #G2SvsGTS.”
No matches have been announced for the show yet and likely won’t be until after AEW holds its Double or Nothing event in May. Tickets for the event go on sale on Friday, May 6, at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT at AEWTix.com and Ticketmaster.com.
