The inaugural WWE Day 1 event didn’t go according to plan as Universal Champion Roman Reigns had to pull out of his scheduled rematch with Brock Lesnar due to him having COVID-19.
WWE had to make changes to the card the day of the show as Lesnar was added into the WWE Championship match, making it be a fatal 5-way with Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley. “The Beast Incarnate” ended up winning the title.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the second Day 1 PPV event is again scheduled for January 1, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia at the State Farm Arena.
Meltzer stated that the reason for going back to the city for a second straight year is due to so many tourists visiting the city for New Year’s Eve. The show this year did 11,213 tickets with 10,300 paid this year
WWE President Nick Khan came up with the idea for this show and it’s looked at as another tentpole event such as WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, and Money in the Bank
