The company have not closed down their operations throughout the global pandemic, instead deciding to keep the show going.
They initially started recording their shows in the Performance Center in front of zero fans, including, amazingly, WrestleMania.
A change came about recently, though, as WWE invited wrestlers working in the PC to form the crowd for shows such as Raw, SmackDown and, most recently, Extreme Rules.
They had kept certain shows on the slate, though, perhaps in the hope of the COVID-19 disease retreating.
That hasn’t happened, though, and now WWE have been forced into a major call over one of their biggest shows of the year.
Indeed, on Thursday, they announced that SummerSlam will not be held in the TD Garden in Boston.
They issued a statement on their official Twitter account, though they did not announce from where it will emanate.
The statement read: “In coordination with our local partners, government officials and TD Garden, WWE’s SummerSlam and related events will no longer take place in Boston. Refunds are available at the original point of purchase. We are grateful to the city of Boston for their longstanding partnership and look forward to holding WWE events at TD Garden in the future.
“SummerSlam will stream live on Sunday, August 23, at 7 p.m. ET on WWE Network, and information regarding a new location for the event is forthcoming.”
Wrestlingnews, who carried the report, claim that it is likely to emanate from the Performance Center.
That isn’t a big leap, of course, given that Mania and, indeed, all shows have taken place from their in-house facility in recent months.
Dave Meltzer, of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, has reported that the main event match is already booked.
Per Wrestlingnews, the show-closer will see Drew McIntyre defend his WWE Championship against Randy Orton.
